Simulant offers little in the way of great storytelling and is ultimately a visual pleaser, but nothing else.

Despite all the familiar faces, Simulant still feels too bare-bones. It asks some pretty remedial questions about freedom and humanity; and it is ultimately too tasteful and earnest to get pulses pounding and minds racing.

There are hints of a deeper movie here, but the one on-screen sticks too closely to stories and ideas we already know.

Better-than-usual sci fi, and I watch a LOT of it from all around the world. There is usually so much simplistic dross coming out of Hollywood, but this was better, and it managed to avoid turning into yet another apocalypse. The science was not ridiculous, once you accept that people would ever really want robots to look perfectly human, and it was tightly plotted and interesting with some likeable performances. The robots ARE coming, in reality, sooner than most think, so it’s good to think about the issues. Reminded me a bit of the series Upload a bit. I enjoyed this.
