Yet nothing in their visually stimulating film registers as strongly as Jolie’s enigmatic, ever-changing face.

maleficent was such a good movie because it told the story about how maleficent became evil but she really wasn't evil because she was a fairy who had wings but her wings were cut off when she met Stefan when he was a kid and years later he comes back to see her older and that's when like he gets the idea to cut off her wings so he can become king later you see him known as King Stefan no but you seem maleficent who is now furious and frustrated with that her friend who she had feelings for when they were kids somehow backstabbed her and took something that she had which was her wings NUC that's how she became evil but she wasn't evil she just wanted her wings back and wanted to show Stefan and Aurora she felt like a close bond with maleficent and like maleficent felt like a mom to Aurora because see maleficent caring for Aurora like right in the middle of the movie to wear she's trying to reverse the curse but it's too late and you see like true love kiss didn't work for the prince but you find out that true love kiss is actually maleficent because you can definitely like see the change in maleficent personality on how she went from one revenge to now she's like a mother to a child that is not really hers but she treats Aurora like her own child because Aurora calls maleficent fairy godmother

Maleficent feels spit-balled into more directions than barely 90 minutes of story time can adequately cover. It's once upon a time, happily ever after and a lot of undeveloped drama in between.

Despite its pitfalls, Maleficent entertains because of Jolie, who holds the wavering threads of Stromberg's spinning wheel together with aplomb.

Jolie’s commitment to the part is admirable: She gives this Maleficent a real emotional urgency. But the rest of the movie lets her down.

Maleficent desperately tries to create a character whose motivation you will understand and empathize with. But the screenplay and direction are such a tangled, thorny patch of conflicting ideas that it's hard to tell what that motivation is supposed to be.

Except for Angelina Jolie, exemplary as the fairy badmother who laid a narcotic curse on an infant princess, this pricey live-action drama is a dismaying botch.

Ambitious, dark and wholly thrilling! This twisted retelling of the sleeping beauty folklore is a wonderful treat that through switching who it centers provides a more moving story. When a powerful fairy disregards warning to interact with humans she strikes up a deep friendship with a poor peasant boy that ends in betrayal. Betrayed Maleficent casts a curse on the peasant turned king's daughter that has unforseen consequences for both of them

A grim, poorly written film that's only real achievement is it's CGI. My hatred of Disney's recent series of reimaginings of it's classic traditionally animated movies, showing them immense disrespect and possibly harming their legacy among more discerning filmgoers not familiar with the originals.
