The Globe and Mail (Toronto)
Overall, it's a satisfying example of the classic thriller, with a nifty digital update for these times.

There's just not enough of Forster, who has a small role as Ford's work colleague and confidant. ..Sometimes star quality shines out from the corners of a movie, and not from the center.

Firewall is a 2006 thriller starring Harrison Ford, Virginia Madsen, Paul Bettany and Robert Patrick..... I watched this and I've no idea what the plot was but looks like your average hostage plot and we want money gig... Nothing new here really but Harrison Ford acted well so did Paul Bettany and it's always an honour and a privilege to see the great Robert Patrick on acting duty and Robert Patrick did good in his role. The badguys were okay even if a bit incompetent and the action scenes okay. The only negative about this movie is when the lead baguy "Bettany" died at the end and obviously we knew from the beginning Harrison Ford will again save the day especially after his family are in jeopardy but the ending killed this film for me as it was a bit too easy and not the climax you'd expect as you'd expect something better but besides that this film is flawless and perfect.

Firewall was an entertaining movie but at time it just seemed to drag on for no reason other than to pad out the run time. Harrison Ford's performance along with his co-star Paul Bettany were the saving grace for this movie. Paul Bettany played Bill Cox a bank robber forcing Ford's character Jack Stanfield to rob the bank that he runs security for. The plot is interesting to watch but the novelty of all the computer skills runs dry leaving the movie to run on the performances of the actors which stay strong through out the entire film. We get to see the multiple sides there are to Bill Cox which just made his character even more intense with the knowledge that he could snap at any moment and do anything to anyone including his own men. Firewall is definitely worth watching even if it is just to see Harrison Ford.

We spend too much time with the kidnappers - a veritable Geek Squad of undifferentiated techies - as each successive escape attempt is foiled and our eyes are warped by abundant shots of computer screens and grainy surveillance-camera footage.

For though it is a reasonable facsimile of a successful thriller, this film (named after a barrier that protects computers from hackers) never manages to be more than mildly effective.

Everything here is a known quantity except one question that could have been inspired by a Tootsie Roll Pop commercial: How many twists does it take to finally, at long last, get to the predictable ending?

As used cars go, the latest and possibly last Harrison Ford thriller, Firewall, is no deal: It runs rough, stalls frequently, smells like the stale sweat of four dozen older movies, and handles like a blind mule.

Firewall is a witless entertainment, and a derivative one, too; it's everything listless about Hollywood in February, everything discardable about the genre in general.

Firewall has a good plot and acting, but the story is very cliched and nonsensical at times to achieve what the movie intended. The writing also could've been improved.

This movie is so bland and uninteresting that it is more akin to 'Drywall'. Bad puns aside -- Firewall is a film written so badly that when it isn't being ham-fisted, contrived nonsense, it is being unintentionally hilarious. Many scenes (particularly in the first act) exist purely as convenient set-up, forcing the plot into jarring, unnatural places. The movie is also filled with many ludicrous implausibilities and plot holes, resulting in such a broken mess of a screenplay that the only way the writers could see fit to conclude the film was with a deus ex machina. Which, I might add, is so bafflingly stupid that it is almost an insult to the audience. If there's nothing else to do for an hour and a half, Firewall may suffice; just don't expect anything more than standard Hollywood drivel.
