Dumbo

The new story is decidedly, deliciously dark, veined with thin layers of Burton’s trademark macabre sensibility, which adds texture and tartness to the inherent charm of the story (at heart, one about the parent-child bond and the possibility of the impossible).

Those flight sequences — first suspenseful, then euphoric — take you back to the classic “Dumbo” as much as they do to classic Burton.

Burton’s riff on the elephant that could fly and the circus freaks who love him is about as subversive as a Pottery Barn Kids fall catalog. Which is not to say it isn’t beautiful, and sometimes mesmerizingly so.

Dumbo isn’t entirely unpleasant to watch — on the whole, it’s probably Burton’s best since Big Fish, whatever that’s worth — and while the scenes in which the elephant takes flight around the circus tent aren’t exactly magical, they’re pretty fun.

All of which is to say that Dumbo feels totally consistent with Burton’s late-period slump. Abysmally scripted and hammily acted – and not, for the most part, in an interesting or ironic way – Dumbo recasts Disney’s animated classic in the trappings and suits of Burton’s pinstripe-and-pinwheel upholstery.

The premise of a bunch of 1919 circus freaks whimsically conspiring to save an elephant from captivity should be an easy layup for Burton, but he just goes through the motions here with a paint-by-numbers Disney climax.

Disney’s new Dumbo is one ponderous pachyderm, a live-action remake of the 1941 animated classic with a grim tone and a dead soul. It’s astounding that Tim Burton and his colleagues could have created such a downer from a long-beloved source of delight.

I think that the movie should have a wayyy higher score. There's constantly new plots, and it does a great job at showing both sides of the story, so instead of "surprise, this happened", you become very invested and scared of what might happen. You get to see the movie from alot of perspectives, and you really live into the characters. Changing this and not getting the viewers stuck in one side of the story is really hard, but they did a great job with it.

Way better than the animation movie. Great for families. Dumbo is pretty cute I can't lie. Has a really good cast as well.

Not Very Interesting This remake of Dumbo has good intentions and tries something new, But the writing hinders it’s potential (Considering it was written by a guy who was involved with Transformers.)

Dumbo 2019 me decepciono, honestamente, Disney debería dejar de hacer live action remakes porque todos le salen horribles (a excepción de la Bella y la Bestia). La original era mi película favorita de todos los tiempos! Como pudieron arruinarla?! Las únicas situaciones salvables de la película son algunas con Dumbo mostrando su personalidad que sigue siendo bastante cute dentro de todo, y bueno, básicamente todas las escenas de la original representadas, aunque si que les falto representar mas... Mas que un remake se podría decir que es un reboot, sin embargo, es un reboot mal hecho. Los nuevos personajes son super genéricos, cliches y muy olvidables. La historia de hecho esta tan separada de la original que podría llamarse de otro nombre y nadie diría nada. Otro caso en el que se usa un nombre famoso para vender. Incluso si tuviera que ser mas objetivo criticando esta película, como ya dije, la película se centra en personajes humanos mas que en Dumbo, personajes que no exploran su pasado casi nada y no son para nada interesantes, ademas llega un punto en el que mas o menos en las ultimas escenas parece una copia de Jurassic Park, pero bueno, lo dejo ahí. Aburrida, con situaciones nuevas muy olvidables y las que no son nuevas se sienten un downgrade total, sin carisma y la seriedad que tenia la original por el filtro de live action que le pasaron por encima, y canciones que ya no son las mismas. Incluso si no viste la original, no la recomiendo.

We were so excited to see the live-action/CGI remake of this classic. I have rarely been this disappointed. It started out well done, but then in Tim Burton's inimitable style, he goes deep dark and disturbing. Ruined the experience. Just simply destroyed any sense of enjoyment I could find watching the film. Why did Disney let him destroy the legacy of Dumbo?
