It's basically a combination of the worst excesses from Ubisoft and gacha game design. Endless filler, weird usually silent dialogue, sponge enemies, mechanics, minigames and all sorts of things thrown in your face non-stop with zero consideration of easing the player in and keeping them engaged. The definition of quantity over quality. Even many NPCs are literally AI generated slop instead of written, "interactions" with them are just spamming a few lines to the LLM to get the desired outcome Mobile gamers with ADHD and contrarians who want to like anything non-western might like it. The rest, most probably not

I went into this game thinking it be bad and was met with a masterpiece and a love letter to the Chinese Wuxia culture, it's filled with random side activities and while, yes, there is AI involved, it isn't used in a bad way, and sololy for a side thing where you chat in a text box with certain NPCs while trying to befriend them, not in any other game play (aside from the English voice acting maybe? It sounds AI to me but it could not be)

It's a great game with really bad monetization if you care about the cosmetics. For a free game though? Really good.

I'm not sure why this is getting so low a score from the professional reviewers. It's a lot of fun to play. The graphics look great and there's a ton of content (with the promise of more due to it being free to play). It's free and you can do a lot without spending anything.

There is loads to do, it's just not very good. It feels very unfinished and tries to force to much into the game, with none of it's parts properly gelling into a greater whole. Still, there is fun to be had and if you're not fussy you'll have some fun. Also it's free.

Im 33 hrs in, lvl 55, and Battle Pass is about 70% done right now... man I REALLY want to sing this game's praises and I think its excellent in combat, exploration, and the story but whether I recommend this to you is based on a few questions. #1 Do you know anything about gacha? Can you accept that this game has nearly double pity compared to other gacha which is simply awful? #2 Can you accept that you cannot use earned currency to pull on main banner like in other gacha? That is HUGE when you think about it. #3 Can you accept that the cosmetics are pretty overpriced? A premium outfit costs you 45 dollars, a weapon effect costs you 20, a horse costs you 10? With these 3 questions in mind if you say yes to all then this is the game for you! I personally say "No" to all these and yet will continue to play because YES its that good but please understand that if you want cosmetics you CAN also earn quite a lot of them, in fact the jade you earn can pull outfits in the normal permanent draw banner and that pity will remain the same even with a shop update but the grind will be tremendous to get them and dedication but the best thing I can tell you is that all those cosmetics specifically can only be earned. All in all this is a 8.5/10 game for me, I am really enjoying it and totally recommend it if you can understand what ive told you and accept that this is simply how the game is.. its a major grind but I kinda love it!

I don't usually do review, but I felt compelled after seeing this great game at an undeserved ****'s an easy 9 or 10. So,instead of a proper review, gonna respond to the misinformation of some people here, rating it low. 1) there is 0 p2w, in fact the best mount in the game is from open world exploration. The rest is cosmetic 2)there is no **** game is opening zones for all in sequence, you can't pay to progress in any way. 3) feels like a bad fromsoft game. (Easy etc) Go try qyiane, the horse, or dao on legend and get back to me. (Or trial bosses on abyss) 4) combat??Definitely from someone that played 15 minutes, the amount of abilities you mix and match is insane.Especially once you get fast weapon swap combos. 5)menus, this one is valid. But if you just play and blast all menus at the end of your playthrough, its like 5 mins of your time for tons of reward. 6) myself and all my friends have 80-120 hours since release, even our wives (and my dad) like the game. 7) "can't make more than 1 character, or delete yours". True but stupid and misleading. You can fully customize your characters features, clothes, hair, hair color, class, playstyle, literally anything anytime you want. Your character is whatever you want it to be whenever you want it to be.

This is byfar the best game for Wuxia/martial arts fans on the market so far (mostly because there aren't many good ones out there with this amount of content). Full of all the troupes that make classic martial arts movies campy and fun. The story is actually serviceable unlike most live services at launch and the gameplay is solid with a fair amount of choices to make for ur character. Plus it's free, so if you are looking here to see if it's worth trying, just try it. The UI is an MMO/Gacha level of stacked up with menu's, but if you've attended a highschool at somepoint in your life I think you will be fine.

A complete masterpiece . So much content, so much to do, so many different things. Free to play with no P2W. There's a reason Steam reviews have climbed all the way to 87% and going higher and butthurt people seething and coping want to actually make you believe that the thousands of positive reviews with dozens of hours are fake or paid (cry harder). Now instead of saying all the good things, let's address the ridiculous criticism that some delusional people have: 1. The gacha cosmetics ****! Keyword: cosmetics. They aren't needed, they don't give you anything other than looking pretty. If you care about that a lot, then yeah that'll **** if you are broke. If you don't, there's plenty of regular looking options that you get from questing. 2. It's a mobile game slop! Like warframe is a mobile game slop too? Wait, no, it isn't, because it is not at all uncommon nowadays for games to port to mobile to make more cash. The game was made as a PC game first, then ported to console and mobile. And if the UI is what is leading you to say it's a mobile game, seek help. 3. The UI ****! It has nested UIs, which may be a minor annoyance depending on your mental ability. There's lots of menus, lots of sub-menus. It doesn't take long to get used to all of them. 4. Graphics are not good Game is gorgeous, and there's an Extreme version of it coming later that is 200 GB. Get a new set of eyes. 5. The battle pass is P2W. A battle pass that gives you 2 extra potions and 1 day's worth of extra stamina. Sure buddy, you are gonna "win" a lot with that and it's going to make such a huge difference! If that's P2W, I guess the games where you have to spend thousands if not tens of thousands of dollars to get good gear must deserve a new definition beyond P2W. There you go. It's free, and I highly doubt many at all look at Metacritic when trying to figure out **** is worth it but if that's you, then you might as well just give it a whirl and form your own opinion.

Edit: After playing some more, I'm increasing my score to 7. I was playing without mystic skills, I thought it wasn't necessary, that's why every enemies feels like sponge, it makes the combat very boring since it becomes button mash at that point. I'm playing on legend. After getting those skills the gameplay feels a lot better. Parries are very generous, this is souls-like with the most generous parries I think. Also I forgot to mention. The translation uses AI or straight up just Google translate, and it's not edited too. You can play as female and you'll be referred to as Young Master, then there's Abyss Difficulty boss, when you unlocked it the notification say you unlocked Ghostbane mode, which confused me, clearly mistranslation that's impossible if done by human. The fact that they can't spend some money to hire human translator leave a bad taste, not gonna lie. Quite good imo. If you like Genshin or Wuwa or something like that you'll probably like this, alot of similar mechanics. The game's not hard too, you have unlimited healing with the fan. Even Abyss difficulty in legend mode boss aren't that hard, I would argue normal World Boss are harder because they're such bullet sponges, maybe I'm doing something wrong with my character, I don't know, but by my experience Abyss difficulty bossess are actually easier for some reason. After playing for around 30+ hours, this is actually quite good, but don't expect anything near AAA polish, is it fun? Yes. Is it buggy? Very. In my 30+ hours of gameplay I've encountered like 20 bugs, from being stuck, progression breaking bugs (though you can quit out to fix, still immersion breaking). Don't go into this game with the expectation of playing a masterpiece and you'll enjoy it (it's free what do you expect). Ignore the Youtube shills rating the game 10/10 (it's not, they're paid by the devs). After playing a bit more I found that there are some P2W mechanics, you can increase your equivalent of estus flask by paying, though even the F2P ones are more than enough, combined with weapons that can heal you, so no problem there. Besides that, most paid stuff are cosmetics, there are no paywall in progression. About the gameplay: The boss fights are very good, the combat is nice too, though you need to explore a lot for the mystic skills before you enjoy the game. Legend difficulty is not that hard, so I suggest you try that difficulty since it's locked if you don't pick it first. I don't have much problem with the UI, it's distracting at first, but you'll get used to it. Still a minus though, more minimal UI would be better. I know there is immersive mode, but it also hides your HP and stuff, basically unplayable with it turned on. I'll increase the score if they fix the UI and the bugs. I skipped all the story, so can't say anything about it.

This is exactly what a Wuxia MMORPG needs in today's modern context. It seriously deserves more praise than criticism. Sometimes, people really really need to do some homework on games set in Chinese culture, history before jumping to conclusions like 'it's confusing' or 'the gameplay is boring.' For the Wuxia MMORPG genre, this game is a breath of fresh air and a major breakthrough. As far as I'm concerned, it's totally nailing its goals, and the performance optimization is surprisingly good, even on older rigs. I just really hope that games rooted in Asian culture in general, and Chinese culture specifically, start getting the recognition they deserve.

Where Winds Meet is a strikingly ambitious open-world wuxia adventure. Its vast landscapes are breathtaking, filled with life, history, and secrets that reward exploration. Combat is fluid and dynamic, blending martial arts flair with tactical depth. The animation of the wushu is great! The storytelling and atmosphere evoke a poetic, cinematic charm, making every journey across its ancient kingdoms feel immersive and unforgettable, even thought the story itself is a bit shallow in the end.

I review A GAME, not the fact that it's free and the politic behind it ! There is a fantastic Wuxia atmosphere, the combat is fun... and that's about it. The rest is completely off. - UX/UI: The UX is catastrophic; it's a total mess to navigate, to know what does what, it's almost like a game on its own (clearly designed for PC). - Audio that turns on/off in the middle of a conversation with an NPC, a translation done by AI with all the mistakes that implies. - Graphically outdated. - They take everything that is popular in live service games, shake it up a bit, and put it in the game. And so on.

Fantastic game. Very good story if you like anime or wuxia. Not p2w. Has a very cool talk to ai chatbot system for befriending npcs and in general this game has just impressed me so much. Probably the most quality F2P game released in the past decade. It feels like a full RPG game like Ghost of Tsushima and only uses cosmetics for its monetization (so no P2W features), while still having a lot of good looking cosmetics still earnable through gameplay. (Like from main quests, sects, gamemodes, etc.)

Awesome Chinese fantasy with beautiful graphics that actually runs at 60fps out of the box unlike so many AAA games today. And it's free! This is a RPG with MMO elements close to Warframe. I haven't gotten bored playing it yet and I am at 35 hours. There's different sects to join, and professions that are unique that each player can focus on. The game is hilarious with its absurdity and epic with its fights. The only downside is the 99GB size.

This is one of best open world RPGs ever created and it's only going to get better. People complaining about micro transactions might have a point IF they effected gameplay at all, but they're ONLY cosmetic, which I never buy anyway. This game is SO in depth and so many things to do so the giant open world isn't empty like so many other games. Don't listen to the haters. I'd easily spend $40-$70 for this.

As an Asian, this game probably one of the best game I ever played so far. The atmosphere, the combat, the world, the story, and more, everything has been so well done. The culture in game especially makes this game even better. Wuxia is one of my childhood style of book, and I read it so many times. A mix of recent Assassin's Creed (the RPG versions), Genshin Impact like and some souls like. Very complete and beautiful game for a free game, with a chinese folklore well respected and romanticized. There is always something different to do (scenario, exploration, mini games...). What I don't like are : the menus. There is too much menus in game ; the skill menus, the shop menus, the equipments menus, the lore menus, the event menus ... Also the French version the translation is partially done by an AI, or even more, I don't know if it is better in english version.

The fact that where the winds meet is just mind blowing. I just finished the first zone of the lively and inspired map and I can say that it's one of the best open world experience I had the pleasure to play. Let's start with the problems, or better, the one problem. The problem of the game lay on in the Ui side of things, with infinite menu and under menus that will overwhel new players in the first hours. I have to say though that after a first traumatic impact, the menu help the player a lot, the problem is that the quantity of content is crazy and simplify the menu isn't an easy task. Going to the pros, well, everything else. A satisfying combat system both strategic and action packed, with super satisfying Perry and doge systems, huge variety of builds, infinite mode, from the typical mmo raids to a well crafted single player campaign, satisfying coop mod with shared rewards and amazing and well characterised boss fights that will glue you to the screen. The game is just incredible, there's 0 paywall, and 0 pay to win. My 10 comes from the fact that the actual metascore is just a crime against one, if not, the best free to play ever released and one of the best open world of the last years.

Franchement, Where Winds Meet m’a vraiment surpris.

Where Winds Meet is a game that feels like it’s trying to be ten different things at once—and ends up not really nailing any of them. The movement is awkward and never quite settles into a natural rhythm. There are a ton of gameplay systems layered on top of each other, and while variety can often make a game richer, here it just feels unfocused and clumsy. I actually like the combat, and the way you learn new abilities is one of the few genuinely enjoyable parts. But the moment you start getting into it, the game immediately buries you under more mechanics, features, and disconnected ideas. Instead of feeling deep, it feels chaotic. Half the time I found myself asking, “What exactly is this game trying to be?” By the end, the experience left me more drained than excited. I don’t usually walk away from a game feeling less interested in gaming in general, but this one honestly pushed me in that direction. It’s ambitious, yes, but ambition without cohesion ends up feeling like noise, and Where Winds Meet just never comes together.

Is the traditional wuxia blanket my favorite? No, but it manages to be more than its setting.
