The Gap
The Gap offers a well written story about the difficult subject of loss, focusing on the unbearable pain this can cause to a person. Unfortunately the experience is held back because of its almost non-existent gameplay and overly simplistic puzzles.
The Gap has a compelling and sombre narrative and an interesting premise that will appeal to fans of slow-burning mysteries. Whilst the puzzles could have been slightly more complex, this short game of one man's quest to save his loved ones is still a tale worth experiencing.
The Gap invites us to follow Joshua's journey in search of a cure for an illness that affects his family. Exploring his memories and finding clues that will trigger even more memories, this "narrative walking simulator" delivers an intriguing, engaging and exciting story. With an ideal duration, The Gap provides us with an excellent experience on the same level as titles like Tacoma and Call of the Sea.

When I finish one game shortly before a big new release, I try to fill the spare day or two with a short game or two. That's how I ended up playing The Gap. It's sort of a hybrid of a walking sim (or narrative exploration game) and a puzzle game, but really leans into the walking sim part in the final act. It's what leads up to it that I found most interesting. Hopefully without spoiling anything here, it's a game about loss, mental illness (maybe), futuristic brain nano-tech, parallel realities, obsession, relationships, life-threatening disease, and cognitive decline. Gameplay involves exploring various scenes to find items/clues that link memories together in an Inception sort of way, often with some series of actions needed to "solve" each scene. I'm not sure I fully "got it" but I liked it.

Excellent intelligent game with constant emotional tension-reminds me of SOMA in ways. Well worth the time to play, it is a breath of fresh air and very well done. The story is very well crafted and the emotional impact stays with you after the game. This dev crew put a lot into this game, Im looking forward to more similarly themed games from them.

The Gap is a very pleasant surprise, and a great amount of praise needs to be showered onto its developer, the two-person team of Label This. This is a clever and engaging thriller, brought to life with believable characters and a very grounded approach to science fiction that we can really get behind. It isn’t without the odd hiccup, but they’re easy to forget once you’re absorbed into Joshua’s compelling story.

The Gap is nothing to do with the clothing brand, but it is a fair walking simulator with an interesting time travel gimmick. It’s good but due to the very plot driven play, is effectively a one and done with limited replay value.

The Gap had the potential to tell an emotional and unique story, but instead features too much dry science and too little character development.
