There is absolutely fun to be had in a good Splatoon battle, but the catch here is the future tense. Splatoon reveals more than a few signs of immaturity in the online gaming space, but its worse offense sees Nintendo catching up, unfortunately, with another big gaming trend of late. This is yet another retail launch of an unfinished game. The version of Splatoon we'd like to play—different from the one people are about to spend $60 on—evidently hasn't been made yet.

It’s the sort of no-brainer we should have been playing for a long time now, and just like getting those hard and soft taco shells in the same box, it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.

There’s nothing else quite like it, nor the cathartic dopamine jolt to be had when you squid-skim up a paint-smeared quarter pipe, an Inkzooka at the ready, leap over the edge, take aim with your weapon, and reduce a startled opponent to goo.

A stellar first entry offering an addicting gameplay loop with fresh aesthetics and OST. Shame that the official servers are shut down.

The story mode is great, and the online was enough good to say it was a good game. I really hope one day we can play it like years ago.

Not only does Splatoon add a much-needed touch of color to TPS, but the inspired use of ink redraws the genre's lines altogether, transforming the GamePad into an fantastic tool to brush the different layers of the gameplay so that everyone will always feel like applying another coat of paint.

This is my favorite game of all time. Not the best game of all time in my opinion. But my favorite. This encapsulates what makes Splatoon so great. This is the most fun game of all time. The insanely fast paced online even more so than 3 and especially 2 makes this game a good time literally every time I play it. People often get pushed away from its pace or its gyro but if you really try to learn this game, you will love it too. The amazing singleplayer that rivals octo expansion and my favorite final boss fight of all time also help to make this game a masterpiece. This game also has half the input lag as the other 2, making it feel way more smooth. It also has this signature Splatoon style that gets lost in 2 and 3. And fan made servers are still up letting you play this game even after it was killed. The love I feel for this game cannot be expressed.

Splatoon has a huge amount of potential wrapped in an addictively bizarre visual style. That said both the solo and multiplayer aspects are relatively simple and have a lot of room to grow with DLC and updates. Hopefully Splatoon will get better with age but for now its inky competitive action should keep you busy for a month or two.

Splatoon is a colorful and fun addition to the action genre, that managed to entertain both the hardcore and the casual gamer. The online solution may need some work, but in any other way this is one of the best game for the Wii U.

Splatoon isn't a perfect game, but it's fun. Really, really fun. It's the start of a promising IP for Nintendo, and it's something unique for Wii U as an action-packed shooter that's also still capable of retaining its family-friendly image. It's the '90s paintball craze meets Call of Duty and it's totally da bomb and funky fresh.

Splatoon is a multiplayer shooter that only Nintendo can make. The basics and gameplay are very strong and addictive, but the game does feel limited in modes and there are a few design choices that can ruin the fun.

The lack of a chat feature just ends up making Splatoon a game that rewards smart teamwork but doesn’t give players tools to communicate.

With game design, visual style, soundtrack, and world setting all exhibiting a wonderful and original sensibility, this Squid-action shooter is a unique, genre-redefining masterpiece in true Nintendo fashion.

This game is awesome, great, brilliant and funtastic. Its original, adictive, and unique in its kind. It's impossible to define it with words, it's something that you have to try to understand. It offers a completely new way of online gaming, you can make team with your friends or search unknown foes randomly in 2 or 3 online game modes, and you know what? I HATE THIS GAME. I hate it because Nintendo needs better servers, I've played not more than 20 hours and all because Sever lose conection before the game is finished. I've completed the offline mode with all scrolls and even finished amiibos quest, it took me around 10 hours gaming. Maybe you think I need better internet conection, but hey! When I play Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, I don't lose conection 1 minute after I start playing and I can even use wireless conection, because believe me, I used cable to play Splatoon online but really it doesn't work. The big diference is: when you play MH3U and you lose conection, the game continues, the other players disappear, but you stay playing alone against the Monster, at least it gives you the chance to complete the quest (anyway I don't lose conection very often in MH3U and I played 300 more hours than Splatoon). This game needs something to improve the internet conection, it could be a graphic downgrade or even to include more offline modes or a deeper single mode. I think they have to stop giving new stages and work harder to solve the internet problem, because not everyone has good internet conection and it's rubbish when you don't know how the game reacts when you lose conection before buying the game. They can even do that if you lose conection all players pass to be CPU players, the game doesn't stop, you finish the game that already started and also gives chance to level up. But this last it's just fantasy of mine. I really hope the find a way to fix that because it's a wonderful game.
SummarySplatoon is a four-on-four multiplayer action game that drops players into a battle arena that two teams strive to claim as their own. Players of each team spray ink on the ground around them while blotting out the opposing team members in turf war competitions.
