Sol Cesto presents a creative concept, with a probability-based system that generates tense decisions and interesting moments. Its dark atmosphere, striking visuals, and distinctive mechanics help build a unique identity, even if the execution doesn’t fully explore the potential of these ideas. In the end, the experience is more likely to appeal to those who enjoy taking risks and don’t mind repetition or the strong influence of chance. On the other hand, those looking for something more elaborate, with greater strategic control and consistent variety, may find reasons to be disappointed.

Sol Cesto is a roguelike that transforms probability into pure gameplay: you choose a row, but the outcome is random, with percentages shifting every turn. The system—initially simple—grows in complexity thanks to modifiers, abilities, and items that allow you to bend the odds in your favor, creating a surprising depth of strategy. Its true limitations, however, lie in a slow progression and a heavy reliance on chance—factors that can lead to frustrating runs, even with solid builds. Nevertheless, it remains an original and intelligent experience, capable of standing out within the dungeon crawler landscape.

Does Sol Cesto frustrate me? A little bit—since despite all the tweaks one might make to the probabilities, the luck factor remains absolutely paramount, and—unluckily for me—I have none whatsoever. Does that make Sol Cesto a bad game, though? Absolutely not. The gameplay loop is still very cleverly designed to be addictive, and the art direction has a charm of its own, featuring a well-executed blend of the zany and the macabre. Moreover, the very fact that the game puts us through the wringer is precisely what makes it so captivating, compelling us to experiment and uncover its secrets.

"choose a warrior, they all have unique features!" only one is unlocked and he has no unique features. neither does the second guy you unlock. "It's a true roguelike with high difficulty!" there are 10,000 forms of metaprogression with almost every dungeon feature doing nothing but prompting a tooltip telling you to grind to unlock/upgrade it. the gameplay consists entirely of clicking a row and the game randomly deciding if you take damage or get useless coins. helpfully, it constantly displays multiple tooltips telling you that you have a 25% chance of landing on each of the four squares in the row, in case you've suffered a grievous head injury in the past five minutes. i love weird ugly art styles but this game just looks atrocious. for some reason every character is constantly shoving their gross feet directly into the camera and the game is obsessed with showing detailed depictions of teeth being ripped out for no particular reason. roguelikes are dead. this is a slot machine, and not a very good one.

First off, do not listen to the people who said it is too hard. Sure the first level is extremely stupid, but that's only because you have no items and almost everything is stronger than you there. On top of that, since its the first stage, Its not that hard at all to just keep coming back until you beat it. Apart from that, Its not hard at all, as I think my win to loss rate on any level past the first (when I say level, I don't mean room number, I mean the terrain stages) is like 10-1. The gameplay loop is incredibly fun, and does not get boring in the slightest. The upgrading system is also very cool, with it not just giving you better stats most of the time, but allowing you to choose more options of what to buy or obtain when acctualy playing. Sure the character roster isn't too too big, but it doesn't matter too much for the type of game it is, and it doesn't feel extremely hard to get any character. There is only two miniscule things that I would say bad about the game, but it doesn't change the score too too much. The first thing is the bosses. All of them are fun don't get me wrong, but their level of difficulty is WAY out of order. By far the second boss is the hardest, and the third boss is a cakewalk. The first and the last boss are decently fair, but they still are decently weak. The only other problem with the game is that it doesn't tell you exactally how to get certain things or what certain upgrades do. For example, once you get the flute and the first song code, the rest are almost impossible to find unless you look up how to get them. Other than those two tiny problems, the game is very fun with its interesting art style, good gameplay loop, good lore (technically) and good music. Also, sorry if this review isn't the best, its the first I've ever made, and I tried to cram all my thoughts into this thing in a very small timeframe. Great game

Sol Cesto is the kind of roguelike that hooks you instantly and keeps you coming back for ‘just one more run.’ Its gameplay loop is expertly crafted, while the heavy emphasis on randomness keeps every session tense and unpredictable. An easy recommendation for roguelike fans.

starts out good but you soon realize everything is against you later levels. to get to the door at the end you need these gems but to get them is pure RNG and that's if you even make it to the door because the RNG is so bad you might make it once every 20 runs! you basically need a perfect run of RNG, the right teeth, items and pond items to make it there which is very rare! you can pick the rate balance of ST and MAG atk but in the end your going to be backed into a corner where your forced to take damage and eventually kill you losing your whole progress and starting again and this will happen continuously! Also you can only use one flute song per run which is outrageous. Maybe if it's updated to be more FAIR I'll come back to it later.
