Islets
Overall Islets is a brilliant take on the Metroidvania genre though. The fast paced gameplay, brilliant boss battles, and interesting characters, all add up to it being a beautiful and unique take on the genre.
Islets is a compact, very nice metroidvania, full of ideas and adorable characters. A beautiful, hand-drawn world divided into six parts to be put together, rebuilt, setting off on an adventure that is as crazy as it is epic.
Islets marries classic Metroidvania elements with innovative tweaks and a gorgeous illustrative style. It may be on the easier end of the scale, but there’s enough depth and variety to keep everyone occupied, from beginners to completionists.

Really good metroidvania, polished, fresh, light, with attaching characters

It's a solid 8/10. It's a simple, short 6-8 hour Metroidvania that's more on the casual side. The bullet hell parts are a little difficult, but the rest of the game is very forgiving. The concept of bringing islands together was quite interesting.

The bosses are well-made, hand-drawn. You can customize the character's moves a lot, (he's also very cute ️). Everything is well-organized, with a cheerful mood that, unlike other Metroidvanias, doesn't make you melancholy. It's definitely worth it!

Overall, Islets may not be doing anything especially new in its genre, but it does all the usual things incredibly well. Movement and combat feel good, the abilities you get are fun to use, maps are well designed and satisfying to explore, and bosses are challenging in a way that makes them memorable. Outside of some qualms with how upgrade tokens sometimes make rewards not as worthwhile as they should be, I have very little negative to say about my time with Islets. If you find yourself hankering for another metroidvania that does what it says on the tin, and does it competently, this is definitely a game to have your eye on. Those islands aren’t going to reconnect themselves.

This is a gorgeous game, and a compelling one at that, and anyone that ekes out even a fraction of enjoyment from this genre owes it to themselves to at least give this a go. I promise you, it’ll leave you charmed and hungry for more.

Islets promises a surprisingly wholesome story while featuring a lot of classic Metroidvania mechanics, and it certainly delivers. The beautiful landscapes and island inhabitants create an unforgettable journey. Filled with monstrous rivals, tense, timing-based platforming, and some well-hidden puzzles, this title is much more than a run-of-the-mill Metroidvania. Outside the eight-ish-hour campaign, there are enough collectibles scattered across each island to keep players coming back, and to be honest; it’s hard to leave the charming cast of creatures behind.

For anyone on the hunt for a new metroidvania to chew on, Islets hits the right notes. It’s built on a clear understanding of what makes the genre tick, with a couple of fresh ideas thrown into the mix—even if the potential in those ideas is left underexplored. It’s a relatively concise affair, for better or worse, but with humour and personality laced over a strong exploration-platformer foundation, it’s not a bad way to spend a few hours.

I absolutely fell in love with the graphics, they gave me memories of Ori games. It has nice and enjoyable bosses and characters that will make you want to speak with them. Finally, it has a really wholesome OST. I recommend it 100% :)

Islets is an absolutely charming metroidvania that's a breeze to play. It doesn't do a lot new, but the island connecting is a nice touch. It's not too difficult and I really appreciate the near instant respawn and saves. Overall it's beautiful and funny and a joy to play.

I liked Islets, its cozy and fun, but I think it lacked that next final push in level design, especialy for late game abilities, they are used to little and in no interesting way, the level design never truly challenges you to fully understand the mechanics, and the game never truly utilizes them to their potential.
