Foretales is a distinctive and entertaining card-based narrative adventure. The game mechanics that blend exploration, resource management, and combat are always intriguing and varied, if occasionally a bit more complex than they should be. Plot, characters, and setting are interesting to discover, and the game structure is designed to make replaying over and over enjoyable.

Foretales spearheads the card-based genre into an unexplored amalgamation of narration and choose-your-own-adventure though I wish it hadn't strayed from its card battler roots so much, which ultimately leads to a simple gameplay loop.

Foretales is a clever narrative card game where exploration, party composition, and seemingly small decisions can completely change the story. Cards represent far more than combat, letting you intimidate, trade, recruit allies, manipulate morale, and discover solutions that may only become useful much **** strongest feature is genuine replayability. My second run followed a completely different path, with new companions, missions, and even an unexpected alliance with cultists. The lack of full voice acting and Polish localization is disappointing, while the awkward mission restart system can be genuinely frustrating. Still, this is a smart, funny, and surprisingly complex adventure that immediately made me want to start again.

Foretales is an interesting mix of narrative and card-game. While not much of a challenge, it's a refreshing way of enjoying the good old feel from mulitple-choices adventure books of the 80's.
The experience is smooth, the drawings are in a lovely classic Disney style, with delicious expressions, the narrator's, voice is funnily grandiloquent, and the music is really sweet.
As a cherry on top, there is a replay value with multiple branches scenarios.
Definetly a lovely ride for people looking for a nice adventure game, not too hard, but charming, and impressive for a small, young studio. Can't wait to see the formula refined and pushed forward.

Foretales easily fits as al so-much-potential game to me. The skeleton’s there: I love the branching paths, the core game design and how the cards are used, the presentation, and how well-hidden secrets appear to be, but there’s not enough flesh on those bones. Whether trying to create a tight, controlled experience that doesn’t get away from them or just not having enough resources to add a huge variety of cards, Foretales suffers. This title has the trappings of a phenomenal, top-tier experience but is just far too repetitive and slow.

An interesting narrative-based card game whose gameplay loops get repetitive too soon.

Even with its issues, Foretales has been an entertaining ride, especially when it comes to the writing and the smart way in which cards are used during the non-combat sequences. The way the story expands and changes based on decisions means there is much replayability and more great writing to enjoy, and as long as you can avoid too much combat, Foretales has every reason to be a game to look out for when compared to contemporaries like Inscryption or Voice of Cards, or its real-life counterparts like Yu-Gi-Oh!.

Telling a story just by using cards isn't an easy task. Despite this, Foretales manages to make you love and care about its characters and world.

A card-based choose your own adventure game that emulates your favourite board games, Foretales has a novel gameplay idea that sadly gets a little too repetitive to hold your attention for the multiple playthroughs its story options offer. It’ll make for a warm and comforting couple of sessions play and there’s a lot of scope for an expanded sequel, but what’s here may leave you wanting even after just one playthrough.
