Firewall Ultra

Is it the system-seller that PS VR2 fans were hoping for? Not exactly, but there is plenty to like about Firewall Ultra. It’s an extremely comfortable VR shooter with fun tactical gameplay that uses the headset’s features in an interesting way, though it does take some getting used to. Sluggish progression and minor bugs need to be addressed, but First Contact Entertainment has been updating the game rapidly since launch.

This feels – and arguably is, given First Contact’s emphasis on post-launch updates– unfinished, rendering what could have been fantastic merely ‘good’. [Issue#32, p.92]

Firewall Ultra has a ton of potential. Its solid shooting, diverse maps and addictive gameplay make each match a thrill. While First Contact Entertainment nails these aspects, there are several issues that make this fall short of a complete experience. With the lack of in-game interactivity, inactive objectives and only a couple of modes, Firewall Ultra needs time to be the shooter we were hoping for.

Could be one of PSVR2s best shooters, but is held back by some baffling design decisions.

Even if Firewall Ultra has some great ideas and makes good use of the PSVR2 hardware, the simplified gameplay prevents a greater immersion.

Ultimately, it’s hard to recommend Firewall Ultra. Hardcore VR and tactical shooter enthusiasts might get some fun out of it, but for most there’ll simply be too much downtime and not enough variety. Throw in other issues such as the lack of interactivity, and you have a game that is a bit of a disappointment overall. Can things be turned around? Maybe, if developer First Contact Entertainment can act quickly. Already a patch has been released to speed up unlocks and improve matchmaking, but there needs to be more, like additional match types. Player retention is likely to prove the biggest hurdle here, though; it’s simply not fun waiting longer to get enough players to start a match than the length of a match itself.

We had high hopes for Firewall Ultra, but it ended up being a deception. Playing together can still be fun and graphically it looks neat as well, but the rest of the game actually disappoints. The gameplay does not feel right, the menus are a disaster to navigate, the special VR2 features are not used, the sound is inconsistent, and so on. Alas, Firewall Ultra is not what it should have been.

Disappointing launch and start to a live service gane (shocjer I know) but holds a lot if promise. This xould ve a 9 ine day but fir now its varely a 7. I hope they listen to the community and overhaul sone stuff. Otherwise when we get more shooters abd tactical games. *cough* breachers *cough* it'll be eaten alive. Looks graphically insane and nice ideas but feels a flat gane and not a vr game. Whats the point. Listen to your fans. You will be closed down. This should ve more important to you FCE. Do not waste this opportunity.

This game is about as broken as it can be. 2 weeks after release still can't even join a game with your party without it crashing or booting you back to your own safe house. There are numerous bugs in this game that makes play difficult to near impossible. If your lucky enough to get a party into a lobby it won't be long before your split up on opposite teams , you have afk people that the game don't kick so they just sit there and farm crypto. Knives don't work by swiping you have to hit the r2 button for it to count as a stab. Theres almost nothing that dont need fixed. I say almost cause atleast the flashlights turn off and on as they are supposed to when you hit the button for on or off. The list of issues with this game is so massive by the time it's fixed it will be ultra 2.0 cause they will of had to fix about all the code in the game. I gave it a 4.0 because the underlying game is good and if fixed properly this can easily be 1 of the best shooters out but honestly at this point it's so wrecked your better off waiting till they can fix all the problems this game has. It pains me to write a bad review of a series I truely love but right now im wishing I had kept my vr1 so I could go back and play zero hour till this game is fixed. Save your money , save yourself a headache and wait , only thing this game has done for me so far is make me decide to wait from here on out for player reviews and in game streams before I buy another one no more pre-orders for me.

Complete **** It feels like a flat shooter forced to be in VR. There is nothing good about this game. They locked weapons and character behind a premium and time limited battle pass, the whole **** map is dark so you have to use flashlight all the time, making all the other attachments useless. The PvE mode is also **** Enemies with shotguns will spawn 2 meters behind you and one shot you. I could go on and on forever, but I have better things to do.
