I enjoyed my time with Everdeep Aurora, although it could have been better. Nautilus Games very deliberately nails the feel of an old Game Boy game from the mid-1990s, although it may turn off players looking for something more complex or challenging. With its charming art style and gameplay, it’s hard not to have a smile on your face as you drill down into the Everdeep. That said, the lack of clear guidance regarding exactly what the game is asking you to do a lot of the time left me longing for a quest log or objective marker. If you’re looking for a chill platformer with retro stylings and don’t mind a lack of clear direction, Everdeep Aurora is worth checking out.

It's tough for me to recommend Everdeep Aurora even to fans of the genre. What feels like they should be mainstays of the Metroidvania genre are absent here, and the exploration just isn't compelling enough for me to want to bust out a notebook and manually keep track of what I've found. It's clear that Everdeep Aurora has a lot of heart. I just wish it actually had some meat on its bones too.

An enjoyable short experience! There were a few times I felt a bit lost as to what the game wanted me to do (especially in pursuit of the true ending) but it was all together a good time! The art-style and music were both very well done, and the use of colour palette on the semi-monochrome characters for tone was fantastic.

I'm an hour in, and I'm in love. I regret not getting my work done today before I started because I don't think I can stop. This might be the most addictive game I've ever touched. It's so satisfying. You play as a little lost kitty. You can meow. There are characters and quests and treasures and secrets. The bricks fill back in over time, so you can go back and forth making new paths. I can't stress enough how much I love this. The controls are smooth and responsive on the steamdeck. The music is lovely, the pixel art is adorable, and the whole game overflows with charm. You can really tell a lot of love and care went into this. Okay, I've wasted enough time, I need to find some ore and upgrade my drill so my kitty cat can keep exploring...
