The most fun arcade hockey game ever created. Ahead of its time in terms of commentary and features in dynasty mode. Controlling the ticket prices, salary caps, staff and contracts was present in this game and led the way with the improvements for future games. The soundtrack was also killer and the game was presented in a way that was easy on the eye. Of course the game has not aged particularly well, but this game is still fun to go back to and take on a friend.

Luftrausers9
Mar 27, 2014
it is addictive, it is fun, it is hard, it is rewarding and it is stylish as. Luftrausers provides some of the most addictive pick up and play fun that i have ever had on my vita. You can play for 5 minutes or an hour dashing around with your little plane avoid a storm of enemy fire, the ocean and incoming planes. There is multiple upgrades to unlock, challenges to complete and levels to beat. This is a game that slipped under my radar but has provided me with a ton of fun in quick bursts. The soundtrack is also fantastic and very catchy. This is a great game if you are looking for an arcade style shooter with plenty of personality

Crysis 36
Mar 6, 2014
after the excellent crysis 1 and 2 i was excited to play 3. after a eventually getting around to it i was disappointed at the direction of the campaign. the game was very short, didn't offer much exploration and the enemies were not at all exciting and fairly typical in the way that they attacked our player. i really enjoyed the story elements between psycho and profit, the voice acting was really well done and the story was hard to follow but enjoyable of what came to the surface. the gameplay was still fluid and fun and the new addition of the bow was enjoyable and added an extra element to trying to stealth through enviroments. however the stealth in this game is far to janky - some situations enemies can't see you when they should and other times you are completely hidden in a bush behind a tree and come out of cloak and everyone will be able to see you for no reason. it is a frustrating experience in terms of stealth or understanding how the enemies sight lines work. The driving sections in this game were truly awful and i had to force myself to play through these sections despite them being only 5-10 minutes long. overall this game provided a mediocre experience that lasted only around 5 hours. there are definitely better shooters available on the market. I wasn't able to play multiplayer as there was no one playing and the only matches i was able to join either ended abruptly due to disconnections or were so laggy the hit detection didn't register. The game is really stunning though. the environments are great to look at, the effects are top notch and the grass realistically sways in the breeze. but graphics don't mean anything if the game is not a ton of fun to play.

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 26
Feb 27, 2014
compared to the first game this game looks like a masterpiece - compared to modern videogames this game is just okay. the game provides you will a number of interesting stealth/sniping sequences through the first of 3 acts. the game also looks fantastic throughout the first chapter due to cry engine 3's ability. The water effects are very average but the jungle, flora and fauna all look fantastic and the enemies are animated well. the sniping sequences in the first act make you feel like a trained elite sniper working with a team. however after the first act the game becomes fairly dull and boring, the sniping situations become limited as you spend your time close up to enemies completing stealth takedowns and sneaking past enemies which never offer much of a threat. i think i was shot once throughout the whole of the game and i was playing fairly stealthy. the sniping does make this worth playing though. the ballistics make the game fairly tough as you do have to adjust your shots due to the distance, wind, etc. which makes the shooting really cool. however you only have access to 3 sniper rifles throughout the entire game which does make the action less customisable. i enjoyed the story of the campaign - the revenge plot was interesting and the background to the main character was intriguing - however the overarching story of the game was fairly typical and the "general" or whoever he was in the game was a major pain and he never actually made sense. i was glad when the main character of the game turned him off. despite the flaws of the game it does offer a fairly cool sniping experience and if you can find it for cheap then pick it up :)

Medal of Honor: Warfighter6
Feb 27, 2014
campaign only review - medal of honor does a number of things right but there is nothing ground breaking that makes this game a standout against the saturated market of FPS games that are available on 360/ps3. The story is uninspired and is the typical military problems and how it impacts solidiers and while this does sound important and make you feel bad for the troops that are involved in harrowing war stories - it is hard to feel sympathy for guys who mow through hundreds and hundreds of enemies in each levels throughout this short campaign. i was able to be the campaign on normal in about 7 hours without any trouble. I thought the levels were all in fairly typical locations and followed the same paths that i have played many times before - follow down this corridor killing everyone in windows, mount the MG, kill all these dumb soldiers who pop their heads out or run out of cover for no reason, breach and clear this room and escort this guy here. the game doesn't do anything that we haven't seen before. What is great about this game though is that it looks fantastic. the graphics are great, the weather effects are really outstanding, the environments stand out, the character models and the animations by the soldiers all react fluently and allow for the gameplay to be solid. the reload animations and the weapons look great and react like guns, they have recoil and feel powerful. The sound and the score of this game are also really great. the music in places has dramatic effects and adds to the immersion and the guns sound loud and mean. it adds to the experience and with good surround sound/gaming headset it makes playing this game bearable. despite all the flaws in the game it is still a decent shooter if you are not expecting something to wow you like call of duty 4/battlefield bad company 2

Hotline Miami9
Feb 27, 2014
killer soundtrack - slick gameplay - fun missions - interesting graphics - and intriguing story. Hotline miami is a perfect game for the vita and provides a great pick and play game that always has you coming back for more. The gameplay provides for great bursts of action and allows the stylish violence of the game to show off how great the game looks. the soundtrack is one of the best videogame soundtracks ever released providing electro tunes that add to the experience that this game provides. a must own for vita owners and seeing as this game can be picked up for around 5 dollars it is a steal.

Thomas Was Alone9
Feb 14, 2014
a game that makes you care about characters that are nothing more than rectangles or squares. Thomas was alone provides a really unique and interesting experience. It is a puzzle platformer that requires some thinking and the use of numerous "abilities" that the shapes possess. There are a number of powers and it is a treat to use the shapes numerous sizes and jumping abilities to navigate through a series of levels. the game is around the perfect length for something like this at about 3 hours (maybe less) but despite the excellent gameplay it is not the star of the show. an excellent story told by narrations from an UN-named narrator describes the feelings and thoughts of most of these shapes as they attempt to escape their doom. The story is really interesting and is brilliantly written. this game was an absolute treat to play on vita.

Call of Juarez: Gunslinger9
Jan 29, 2014
One of the more refreshing and fun shooters of 2013 - in a time when most modern FPS games are focusing on massive set pieces and realism they forget about what makes a shooter truly fun, a great mix of enemies, cool locations, great upgrades that encourage a number of different play styles and also a stylish graphical style that is great to look at and makes the action fast, fluid and slick. all of this is offered by Call of Juarez Gunslinger and it also tells a fantastic story which provides interesting and unique aspects in the gameplay. With a great arcade game mode and a fun duel mode this game packs a heap of punch for the price range. easily one of the most fun shooters to come out in a while.

Tearaway9
Jan 2, 2014
Truly an amazing experience and one of the best handheld games ever made. this is an experience that will only ever be possible on a playstation vita and it uses each of the vita's gimmicks in a truly interesting way. the addition of unique and fascinating art style using papercraft, fun platforming and a really unique story. what makes this game so special though is the additon of you. you are not just playing it, you are the main character and fully featured in the world of tearaway. fun things like photos, recordings and your own creations are fully featured in the world of tearaway and pop up in expected and unexpected places. it really makes it a game that is fully tailored to you. This is your story and it is something that i have never quite experience before. this game must be played by everyone who has a vita.

Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag8
Jan 2, 2014
i major step in the right direction for the assassins creed franchise. finally a game that emphasizes exploration and discovery. The game really makes you feel as if you are a pirate searching for loot and that greater sense of freedom. the locations around the game are interesting and despite being fairly similar are all unique and have a great sense of the Caribbean about them. the world is filled with life as the locations offer many missions and side quests and other interesting things to see and do. The story is lacking in terms of sheer narrative however there is a few memorable moments and edward is a hugely different main character compared to connor, Ezio and Altair. The pirate dynamic also makes it by far the most interesting game in the series as the ship to ship combat and underwater exploration just add to an already solid list of things to do in an AC game. to go along with fantastic combat, hunting, huge cities to explore, sea shanties and other fun moments of exploration this game is well worth picking up and sinking 30 hours into

BioShock Infinite: Burial at Sea - Episode One8
Nov 13, 2013
a great piece of dlc for fans of infinite and the original bioshock. the dlc is very short clocking in at around 2 hours but you could probably finish it in 90 minutes if you were rushing. Rapture looks incredible and really well polished. the way the world is, is completely engaging and fascinating. The story is really well written and of course booker and elizabeth are excellently portrayed again. the combat is very bioshocky but with the feel of the first game (limited ammo, crafty and scary enemies and an emphasis on combat. The dlc is very well worth checking out and promises to be an excellent 2 part series.

Dead Space 37
Nov 1, 2013
easily the weakest game in the series but still a fun game nonetheless. Great combat and still some jump scares that remind me of the old dead space. the story is a little convoluted but there are good performances by most of the characters. the necromorphs are creepy as usual and the wide array of guns that you can dismember their limbs is fantastic. I really enjoyed the graphical style of this game and the location however there really was something lacking that made the previous 2 games so special.

the ultimate gears of war experience, A great story that perfectly ties the series together, perfected combat with a great addition of a few weapons and a load of content that can be played with friends. One of the best games i have ever played and it continues to to be the best gears of war game ever made. A huge list of unique maps as well as many added via dlc, horde mode is perfected and a load of fun with friends and the campaign is highly replayable due to the addition of arcade mode in that quest to out do your friends high scores. a perfect third person action game

Borderlands 29
Oct 6, 2013
borderlands 2 is tonnes and tonnes of content millions of guns, millions of shields and areas and enemies. There are 4 unique characters out of the box and 2 more available via DLC that provides a different and exciting way to play through the campaign. The DLC of the game adds even more content to an already 60-70 plus hour game. The shooting is much tighter than the first game and the graphics are greatly improved over the first game to make the environments and the enemies a treat to look at. the weapons are the star of the show however and there is always a new gun to use or a new shield to equip. the loot is handled well and the game also plays brilliantly with co-op. the story is not something the game is known for but i did enjoy the narrative of the game and handsome jack was a great villain. this game is one of the best of the generation in my opinion for a fun based co-op shooter with plenty of content, great shooting, tonnes of loot and a funny cast of characters.

after around 55-60 hours of GTA V i can definitively say this is the most fun i have had with a videogame in a long time. this game is so many games in one and often does it better than many other straight driving, sports and shooting games. with the addition of a huge story, tonnes of cool and interesting characters, great character customisation and so many things to discover, see and do within the world i can't recommend it highly enough.

Killzone: Mercenary9
Oct 6, 2013
Killzone mercenary provides handheld gamers with a genuine console experience in the palm of your hands. This game truly harnesses the power the Vita and provides a fun and exciting game that looks and plays great. The game delivers a entertaining campaign that features a variety of high octane action experiences that are on par with the killzone 2 and 3. I enjoyed the notion of the mercenary feel playing a character who was truly in it for the money. The story does leave something to be desired but in a campaign that can easily be beaten in 5-6 hours there is no real time to develop anything. The game looks fantastic as the environments are filled with a rich sci-fi vibe and move away from the browns and greys of the previous killzone titles. The controls do take a little bit of time to adjust but after feel very responsive as i was snapping off headshots easily. The game has a tonne of re playability due to a great multiplayer mode, lots of weapons to unlock and multiple paths and options to take on through the main campaign. I had a blast with killzone and it is a must buy for vita owners

Sleeping Dogs9
Aug 25, 2013
A breath of fresh air in the open world genre. A game that allows for exploration through a non traditional open world environment (Hong Kong) and also a great list of characters that are superbly voice acted. The game takes a huge focus on hand to hand combat and does it so well with a number of brutal combos that include counters, heavy attacks, light attacks and special moves as well as the brutal environmental take downs. the driving is a lot of fun and feels very arcade style. there is lots to do including races, customizing cars, buying clothes, exploring the city, going out on dates and of course side missions for the triad and police groups. easily one of my favorite games of 2012.

The Walking Dead: 400 Days7
Aug 25, 2013
entertaining characters and interesting stories! however as the stories are so short there is not enough time to build that relationship with the characters that the original 5 episodes had. this is also really short but that is to be expected for the price. 400 days still has those classic walking dead hard decisions and shocking moments. the gameplay also does not improve from the original series but i don't think that will ever change. if you were a fan of the original 5 episodes you have probably already bought this, otherwise go ahead and check it out

this game is fantastic! reminds me of need for speed underground last generation but with a huge open world and a tonne of great cars. graphically the game is great and the environments and cars have that great feel. the difficulty of the game can be adjusted in a number of ways to ensure the game is never to hard or to easy. throw in a tonne of customization abilities, many racing modes and open world events such as random challenges, barnyard cars and speed cameras this game has a lot of content.

Aug 4, 2013
the only game i will ever give a 10 too on this generation literally the best combination of action, adventure and story. the characters are truly lovable and this is the perfect follow up in terms of story to mass effect 1. the game was more streamlined in terms of rpg elements but still required you to talk to your crew and be involved with upgrading your character and your ship. the voice acting throughout this game is perfect and every character has a unique and intriguing aspect. the locations that you visit throughout the game are all beautiful the universe that bioware has created is truly interesting and engaging.

Gears of War: Judgment5
Aug 4, 2013
this is easily the most disappointing i have been in a game this year. everything that was great about gears of war 3 which was most things were missing in judgement. lets start the campaign the game had the potential to expand the characters of baird and cole and also explore the initial stages of the locust attack and the brutality that came with it. The story falls short in every way and often feels forced. it is really short as there is really nothing going on through the whole story. the addition of the challenges are interesting but not capitalized upon and there is nothing really interesting ever going on with the campaign. it is the only gears of war campaign i have not played twice. don't get me started on the ending as well. possibly the worst villain in videogames never any emotion and im not even sure that there is a line of dialogue from this forgettable character. as for the multiplayer overrun is fantastic and easily the best mode available in this game. it is deep and satisfying with lots of options and interesting maps and specialties available from each class of character. regular multiplayer on the other hand is a joke 4 maps. really. after about an hour you have already played every map and also the fact that many of the mechanics that made gears multiplayer so unique have been removed. and the final nail in the coffin for this game was the removal of horde mode. i feel like this game took a lot of risks yet many of them were not justified and it seems as if this series may now struggle to redeem itself. i still love the how the shooting feels in the campaign and the cover to cover system as been tweaked for the better. The game looks stunning and many of the environments are great to look at but that doesn't make a great game.

Metro: Last Light8
Aug 4, 2013
metro last light does many things that modern shooters do not do. This game creates immersion and atmosphere that most games simply cannot get anywhere near. The world is interesting and begging to be explored. Post apocalyptic games are every where these days and it take a really believable world to ensure that the experience is worth while. Metro last light's world is full of desperation and despair and life outside of the metro tunnels is bleak yet full of life outside of the human species. this game does a fantastic job with the setting and is visually stunning. the game play aspects all add to this immersion as you are constantly checking your wrist watch for how much air is left in your oxygen canister, how many bullets you have remaining and if you can tackle the enemies head on as well as if you have enough filters to brave the outdoors. the game improved the combat immensely from the previous title and yet the enemy Ai is probably the most disappointing aspect of this game. once engaged in combat it is serviceable but there are videos of people literally doing a circle around an enemy and they still do not notice them. Apart from these minor complaints the game tells and an interesting story and the atmosphere is incredible and one of the best atmospheres in a game since fallout new vegas. however the game does fall short on AI which does break the experience.

Assassin's Creed III7
Aug 4, 2013
the assassins creed series is one of the best series in gaming and the previous installments have all been top quality. however this game is probably the weakest of the series. it is not a bad game but it is just frustrating how good this game could have been. the setting of the game is so interesting and full of mystery and history and as the series is famous for their alternative take on the events of the past this is perfect for the series. however the game gets off to an insanely slow start. unfortunately there is so much going on this world yet you are stuck running from objective to objective to watch another cut scene as the game sets it self up. this didn't throw me off the game but left a rather sour taste in my mouth as the game often continued along this path. The game does a fantastic job in terms of graphics and the world yet falls short on creating interesting characters. Connor has no where near the charisma of ezio and the supporting cast other than the main villain, Charles Lee are all relatively stale. The game also does a great job introducing new mechanics and aspects of the game that refresh the series. The addition of hunting, naval battles and the almanacs as the collectibles rather than feathers all feel fresh and exciting in particular the naval battles which for me are the highlight of the game. AC3 also does a great job sticking to its roots as it adapts. the changes to the combat feel natural and the counters are still as brutal and bloody as ever. AC3 is an enjoyable game but by no means the best game of the series. If the battles between the red and the blue coats had of been completed on a major scale and the character of connor was more likeable then this game could have been right there with AC2 and brotherhood.

BioShock Infinite9
Aug 4, 2013
this game is a thought provoking and interesting experience. Infinite provides the a first person shooter with a brain. The game has one of the more unique and interesting stories ever told within a video game. Everything is meticulously planned and when everything sinks together it leaves you with a real shock to the system. The game looks amazing on every system and plays fluidly. it is a shame that the rail combat was not included more heavily in the game because it is a blast. I lot of people have complained about the combat, but i think it is fast paced and enjoyable the weapons feel great and the shooting feels much better than previous bioshock games. the addition of gear and fusions adds to the great combat and of course the vigors are fun and extremely powerful. it is great that the game allows you to find your favorite combination of gear, weapon and vigor. the stars of the show however are definitely the characters and the back story of the world of columbia. the world is interesting and begging to be explored. this is the pinnacle of first person shooters and easily one of the best games of this generation.

simply a wonderful game to end the generation. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 36
Nov 16, 2011
the single player and spec ops of this game is fantastic and that receives 5/5 for offline content and cooperative. the special ops is new and fun with a range of unlocks and slick gameplay that can be thoroughly enjoyed and spent many hours playing. the campaign is the typical huge scale explosions and bloody battles that we have come to expect from the modern warfare games and it does not disappoint. where this game does let me down is the multiplayer. as a cod fan from cod4 all the way until now only mw2 slightly compares to the fun factor that call of duty 4 provided. there is significant problems with hit detection and lag unlike the other big shooters that have come out this year, namely battlefield, gears of war and resistance. the game feels old and tired as the same rinse and repeat gameplay has been used. unfortunately in opinion this game is an enourmous jump ahead of blackops. this game has been hyped way out of proportion and does not deliver. not too mention that elite still is not working meaning hundreds of thousands of people have given activision an extra 50 dollars for nothing
