Lonely Mountains: Downhill7

decent game, there are inconsistencies with the physics though. certain drops wont result in a crash while smaller ones will, you can often tap walls/rocks/trees/cacti resulting in a crash although you should only graze past them (according to what I've seen in the gameplay, either could be appropriate responses to a collision), you can also be translated away from an object, which is appropriate for collisions, but this can occur randomly. As for the gameplay, the small field of vision inevitablly requires repitition as you will crash into something that is outside it, the only way to get a decent time (which is required to unlock new levels and bikes) is to slowly memorise the course. This is usually fine as the basic idea of the game is enjoyable but the more difficult challenges are often tedious; even after crashing on a single checkpoint multiple times following the same track is difficult as minor changes in direction and speed can result in you flying off the side of a mountain or into something hard. This small margin for error is exacerbated by the swtches performance, visually I think the game is acceptable but the analogues small degree on control , and frame jumping (the game just skips a frame and youre suddenly hurtling headlong into a rock) took a fair bit of enjoyment out of the game. I would say this is worth $15NZD, you shouldnt spend more than that, and if certain challenges are grinding your gears dont persist just move onto another level/challnge.

I would say this game is suited purely to jrpg fans. The dialogue is grating, and drawn out, while the plot is filled to the brim with tropes. This is not why I picked up this game though, the real time combat was the real draw. Unfortunately there are very few tools at your desposal, you cannot dodge or guard, but you can jump, attack, and use magic; however there are few ways in which you can use these abilities. The first boss took me a number of attempts mainly because I was trying to find ways to make the combat enjoyable, then to get it over with as quickly as possible, then I relented and beat the boss the proper way, by slowly running around and occasionally hitting it, there was no skill or thought required just my willingness to sit there, bored, and occasionally press the attack button. Variety does pick up later in the game when you unlock more magic/abilities, but the game still requires nothing from the player than to slowly pick away at the enemies health while easily avoiding attacks (which require no dodging or timing). Outside boss battles the game is a shallow beatemup, again there is nothing required of the player other than to mash the attack button while running to avoid slow attacks, shortly after starting the game I stopped fighting minor enemies entirely, not good considering that is a large chunk of the game. The enviroment is severly lacking in variety, there is an enormous amount of repitition and recycled content, the only interesting aspect of the game is the bosses which are disappointing as well.

nice little physics based puzzle game. In the latter portion of the game the levels become a little confusing as to what to do, generally my solution was to finagle my way to completion. The fact that I picked this up for very little added another point to my score, anything over 10 NZD is not really worth it.

Gyro controls were jittery when i first played this, now it only works for the vertical axis. I'm sure this is fine on PC but fps games on switch just dont function well.

Good base mechanics but I have found that (on the switch) some of my inputs seem to be ignored for a given hit, resulting in inconsistent results (sometimes). At the beginning of the story there seems to be characters, and gameplay elements that would be developed later in the game, and whil each level does bring something new to the table there is a distinct feeling that the developer bit off more than they could handle and that the final product is alot less than what could have been. This is also apparent in the narrative, which although funny, seems to have been cut back due to a lack of time or resources. The result is a game that, while fun, feels a little short, and occasionally repetitive.

This is kind of ugly on the switch, gameplay is very dull, best to avoid (on the switch).

The game starts out well enough with a narrative ellipse, as well as good enviromental storytelling. Unfortunately the gameplay is fairly unrewarding, when riding the train you have an opportunity to listen to the dialogue of characters you have picked up along your travels; except you dont because you need to manage the train by completing dull chores while also making sure characters dont die from injuries or hunger (if you fail to keep a passenger fed you will find them in a pool of their own blood?). The narrative is told in snippets through npc's and notes, this starts off strong but very quickly the note format becomes: I am annoyed/worried about this person lately, who has been reclusive or acting odd tell me about it [no reply] are you there? [implication person has been killed by said zombified person} This could be fine but, atleast on the switch, the aiming is horrible, the levels quickly become linear, and the survival mechanics are really underdeveloped. There is no inventory management, there is no point to the variety of items you pick up because it all amounts to money, stuff to make medical kits, stuff to make bullets, which you then need to spend time producing while on the train trying to listen to the npc's. In sum there is an interesting world here but a vexing game to play.

The controls are good, the art design is charming, but there is simply too much bs to make this a fun game. I f you dont mind spending the equivalent time you would spend on a sprawling rpg to complete a single run on this game, and enjoy bashing your head against a wall then by all means please buy this game.

The game definitely has some charm, but in the end this isn't something that should be sold on a store, its more of a first attempt at making a whole game.

This game is too much for my lizard brain. Enjoyed the minimalist style, but didn't find it particularly addictive due to the repetitive failure underscored by the fact that when you do complete a level the music picks up, the you fail again, the music is dialled back, fail again, and the music fades; if the developer wanted to drive home how much you **** at the game then this communicates it perfectly. More **** that you pick up every now and again and slowly get better at rather than something that keeps you glued to the screen.

I like the idea of this game, but unfortunately navigating the map is long and dull. The aesthetic which is initially charming becomes repetitive, due to reused objects, a lack of visual variety, and large empty spaces. The boss battles are drawn out too long, due to your weak weapon; as a plus though you are spawned immediately before the boss battle each time you die. If you like long battles where you slowly chip away at an enemies health, and can get this on sale, you may enjoy this.

This runs well on the switch considering how much is happening on the map. Unfortunately past a certain level progress tapers off and the game becomes a repetitive slog. Progress becomes tied to the power-ups you pick up, you may or may not get what you need; this is not a case of making use of what you have, you eventually have to have the force field to charge larger enemies without being swarmed and killed by the small fodder. Often powers spawn where you can't reach them, often in the centre of a horde, these are not worth attempting to pick up because a number of power-ups have little utility beyond a certain point. Sometimes you will only get the 'rebuild city' power up, this will continue to spawn until you pick it up, you have no choice. I got this on sale, but at full price this game simply isn't worth it despite the clean aesthetic, and it running well on the switch. I played for maybe 4 hours and I'm already done playing, not out of frustration but disinterest.
