Death Stranding7

After 200+ hours playing Death Stranding and after a platinum trophy, I have got an in-depth opinion about every aspect of the game. Storytelling: I was disappointed from the storyline considering the many popular actors and movie directors from Hollywood participating in the game. Story is patched up and from time to time hard to follow. I am considering it from a Western point of view, not knowing if the way the story line is organized makes more sense from a Japanese point of view. My logic was simply refusing this association of weird things with real world historical events spanning across 60 years each of them and far away from the United States of America, the place where the game is set. Gameplay: gameplay was agreeable, but far too repetitive and often very predictable. I enjoyed the online shared items from the other player as it's a good cooperative idea. Environment and hiking simulator: it's a wow. They got this at 100%. Environment is fantastic and very realistic. I appreciate the developers effort in simulating hiking in different conditions. It's frustrating at start but it makes total sense.

It's a shame the contrast between a intense story and the awful gameplay, with random game mechanics, frustrating one second choices and many, many, many bugs... Some of them are actually funny, such us Ed's house interior seen from the back window is magically a park, but when you enter from the front door, it's actually a house. Game stopped many times from no reason and there is a big problem with darkness outside and inside the house. I had this game as part of the Syberia package so I gave it a go. I wish they could remaster it, it would be a great hit if done properly.

I normally don’t write reviews, but when a game is a true work of art — something I haven’t experienced in a very long time — it deserves a proper review, along with a thank-you email to Croteam, the developer behind it. Everything about this game is absolutely amazing and jaw-dropping: from the beautiful and diverse landscapes to the philosophical themes; from the numerous puzzles to the responsibility tied to your choices, which ultimately determine the ending you get. The “matryoshka” puzzles — puzzles within puzzles within puzzles — and the strange Easter eggs scattered across the maps make the experience even more memorable. This game truly makes you think and question your ethics and moral choices. In the end, it gives you insight into who you are and how humanity can shape its own future. It may sound strange that a game can achieve something like this, but honestly, it shouldn’t. I really hope developers continue making games like this, although it’s becoming increasingly difficult to find something this creative and original.
If you’re still undecided about playing this game, give it a try. I promise you won’t regret it.
