The Consuming Shadow7

One of the better rouge-lite games with a decent replay value. Pros: - Well designed simple interface - creepy atmosphere - presentation that leaves a lot to the imagination - good writing - good replay value - simple but challenging gameplay - an interesting puzzle you need to piece together in every run Cons: - clumsy combat - minor interface issues - graphics could be better - mono audio

Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance9

I got this game for only 3.99 euros on Steam. One of the best spectacle fighters on PC. It has some minor issues like the sub-weapon usage is pretty awkward, but the parrying system is fantastic once you get used to it. Soundtrack really matches the style of the game, really awesome. Story is pretty average like in every MG game, but the main character and his motivations are well explained and if you are into it, you can delve deeper into the lore by listening to Codec conversations with your team members. PC porting is pretty solid, not perfect but it works and runs well. It has readjustable controls and pretty good graphics settings.

Killer Is Dead7

Very stylish game, fighting feels good. PC version works ok so far. You can modify an ini file and unlock the 30 fps cap, but it might cause glitches so it's not advised. It uses the Unreal engine so no problems with PC performance. However you can't even customize controls ingame. (Maybe can be modified in an ini file though.)

This is a type of game to which you can sit down for a few mins to kill some robots. The humor of the game is typical Dejobaan quality, it doesn't disappoint. The soundtrack is amazing too. There are a lots of user generated content, and most of them are actually fun to play. Now the bad things: It seems that Dejobaan just can't balance their games properly. I had to switch to easy mode, because all of the later levels are really annoying and unfair. Still easy mode has the same lame time limits so you are f****d anyway. You will be killed by things you can't see or run out of time if you haven't collected the - basically - mandatory powerups that help you kill robots. If you don't follow the developers intention when completing a level, you will fail.

I hated this game with all my heart, but after 10 hours, somehow I got hooked. If you think it's too hard, I recommend you to loosely follow a guide to help you where to go and what to do. I have a controller, I love to use it, and the DSfix does wonders.

If you are bored of all the big budget cookie cutter games, this will be a breath of fresh air. Although all features of the game have varying quality to say the last. Some of the writing is brilliant, some of it is cringeworthy. The main cutscenes are directed in a fantastic way with great artistic vision but the simple dialogue scenes ****. Some of the music is great and appropriate, especially in story cutscenes, but a lot of tracks are totally out of place. The PC port itself is terrible, however with DPFIX installed and a JoyToKey or xpadder it works with gamepad as well. It's a very interesting and unique peace of work and can be highly entertaining despite it's big flaws.

Maybe the problem is with the godawful Unity engine, I don't know. Although the levels and the music are nice, the overly lifelike physics go rampant in this game. If you are making a physics based puzzle platformer, you gotta make sure that the game has solid controls and well outlined levels that don't let the physics engine enough freedom to make the game frustrating. (See Portal. If physics would work realistically in Portal it would be a terrible game.)

I've clocked more than 100 hours into the multiplayer of this game and was not bored for months. This is a well balanced, multiplayer oriented game. Too bad it's almost dead, but you can still find some active players. Unfortunately the game has been removed from Steam, which is a bummer...

Miasmata8
Sep 6, 2013
I just finished it yesterday. The latest version of the game is stable and runs relatively well. It crashed only once in 14 hours of gameplay time. The production value is kinda low. (Which is expected with a full 3d open world made by 2 people) The environment is beautiful, even photorealistic at times, but the human models are really hideous. The UI is not the most comfortable ever, but it does the job. A little more tinkering and polishing would have helped. Especially with cartography as PIXEL HUNTING for distant objects masked by moving vegetation is not fun. What I liked the best is that despite it's hardcore survival elements it still manages to remain a modern game. There are no hundreds of saveslots which you have to reload if you screw up. Your latest save counts all the time. You can always find a camp where you can sleep off your low health and find water. But it's still a very special experience, a really immersive game despite it's videogame-magic like elements. You have to pay attention how you walk, what time it is, dehydration, etc. This is a game where the environment is your biggest enemy, even when the creature finds you'll still struggle to overcome the hostility of the environment, not the animal's. Danger lies in totally different things that you got used to in other games. Miasmata became one of my favourite indie games.

I'm not a Japan maniac weaboo believe me. Yes, the game is cheesy at some points, the unskippable notifications, the intro and the speech voices are a bit annoying. But besides these minor issues, the game is very well crafted, well paced, and it's THE most beautiful and memorable game I've ever played. The whole reason I bought a used Ps2, Totally worth it. (Too bad it was never released on the PC). Also this is the first game I've ever rated a 10.

I understand that this supposed to be a game that tells a story, I have no problem with it's length. My problem is that it's shallow like hell. The writing is terrible: This is a sory of an annoying betamale. There is no mystery or anything. He is not interesting at all. Graphics: I don't know if the game uses a custom engine or a licensed one, but if you have such a small static place to work with, at least try to put some hyper-realistic lighting or high resolution textures into the game. You cannot even explore the flat. This is not entertaining at all.

I think it became a trend to say they cried at this game. I don't get why, they probably haven't played Shadow of the Colossus yet. It was ok, I had some fun with it but I wouldn't ever play it again. The dialogues are cheesy, especially the funfair part with those drawings, the music gets annoying after so many repetitions. And the story is the mix of Inception and a Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.

This game is really good at what it does, and provides a solid challenge. It has a silly humour, does not take itself seriously, but still has a minor backstory. The soundtrack is great. The graphics are vastly improved over the original. The locations are not particularly realistic, but the game has this abstract futuristic feel to it.

I haven't played the PS3 version but this PC port is really well done, and I haven't experienced any gamebreaking problems. (The Unreal Engine works quite well here and it looks great) This game reminds me of ICO from a lot of aspects, but this is much better. I gave up ICO because I hated the annoying running around with the puzzles. I didn't mind the easy puzzles here, because they do not break the experience. The symbolism of the story is very easy to understand, but that is not a problem as it gives a lot to the atmosphere. The music is also fantastic.

I'm not a big Valve fan, but Portal 2 is much better and than their other games. You have to go trough the first set of puzzles, then the story takes a big turn. The writing is smart, the gameplay feels very polished. The environments are mindblowing. And finally, it has a decent ending!

PAM: Post Apocalyptic Mayhem5

The main problem is that this game misses the fast pace and momentum that would be expected from a powerup racer. If this game had some better physics and tighter levels, it would even come close to Blur. However it's pretty polished, looks nice, has a lot of tracks and fun to boot up if you're bored. Don't expect busy multiplayer though.

Don't play this game alone! Bring at least one friend, otherwise it becomes boring real fast. This was made for Co-op play. Otherwise this game is much better in every aspect compared to the first: Multiplayer is now handled trough Steam and not gamespy. Locations are bigger, look nicer. If you have nVidia, you can turn on some cool PhysX particle effects. There are much more kinds of guns, everyone can find their favorite. Finally, the game has a much more detailed and more interesting storyline than the first. Yes, there are some stupid 9gag level jokes, but they can be ignored. Other than these stupid references, the writing is relatively smart, and entertaining. And last but not least there is the fantastic soundtrack, which is much less irritating than in the first game. I didn't want to turn it off after several hours, and that's a plus.

I can understand the hate for this game, because the gameplay is mediocre at best. But it has a really gritty and catching atmosphere. It shows that once you get into the life of crime, there is no way back. It's very-very dark and depressing, and that's why I think it's really special creation from IO interactive.

A relaxing experience. It's about love, distance, memories. This kind of virtual communication between couples is quite thought provoking. I give it a 7, because among all these kind of artsy "non-game" relaxing stuff, it's pretty good, and it looks very nice. Has little science-fiction elements which make you think. Cons: The controls should be a bit more intuitive. Even with a gamepad it's not very convenient.

I was never into fantasy games but, this series caught me, I like the characters and all the background stories of them. It's a beautiful game, but I cannot overlook the technical issues: you need to delete old saves or else it slows down loading times. It randomly crashes once in a while. I have to use JoyToKey to add inventory screen to the "back" button on the 360 pad. I need to force Anisotropic filtering trough driver, etc. Also, the beginning is a bit too hard and might put off some players, while they shouldn't stop at the prologue, because this is a fantastic game despite it's flaws.

I think this game is a very interesting mix of modern and retro. You have this pumping modern soundtrack with 80's visual design and modern gameplay. It's hard like old games, but not unfair like old, bad games. It's easy to pick up and each floor is like a checkpoint. The simple but disturbing Dayid Lynch-esque backstory is really the icing on the cake.

The Extended Edition of the game (Extension was free for early Steam buyers!) is basically more of the same formula. Fun.

I'm in 7 hours into this game so far and I'm not into fantasy settings. The story did not really unfold yet, but the quests are interesting enough to push on. Alchemy is fun once you get the hang of it, and I found myself buying books from a traveler just to know more of the world and be better in alchemy. The fight system needs a little getting used to, but works well, alchemy makes your life 100 times easier. I like the multiple types of control schemes also, you can control with one mouse if you like, or go with the kb+mouse over the shoulder camera setup.

Yes, on foot controls ****, there are some difficult missions, but nothing that can't be done for the second or third attempt. Still, this is my favourite GTA game, the 80's presentation is fantastic. (The clothes, the music.) I can 't even mention another well made game, that is set in the 80's. Younger players would probably never appreciate another GTA set in the 80's so I'm pretty sure we'll never return to Vice City again.

I liked that the story gives some explanations to the original game. The new weapons are good, and there are more kind of enemies. Arcade mode: I never liked arcade modes in similar survival horror-like games, i don't really like it here either. However, it's nice that the creators actually created new arcade levels instead of remixing the story levels. Another advantage is that it's cheap, so whenever there is a sale, pick it up, you can't really go wrong with it.

I bought it because I wanted to enjoy a suvival horror story, not a time management and character management simulator. I give it a 4 because it has atmosphere and some nice ideas. As others have written, I was also bored by the constant messages of being hungry and sleepy. I could not go back to the game and finish it. The graphics are TOO low res, you need to shrink the aspect ratio with "q" or sit far away from your monitor to actually enjoy it.

Great game with solid gameplay and nice graphics. It's a pity no one plays it in multiplayer, because these kind of powerup racers are best played online. My only complaint is the level design: you have to learn the levels. So you are flying with planes but you are still forced to fly in a "tube" If you fly off far away, the game redirects you but often into a rock wall.

Aug 30, 2012
Overall nice game, the humour is quite good, gameplay is varied. Shooting is satisfying and fun, and the game packs a challenge on normal. But all the variations in the gameplay are quite unnecessary, like the boring turret sequences, and escort and timed missions. The quality of the movie cutscenes are terrible, both animation and picture quality. Level design is not the best either, they are quite big but very bland, with low resolution textures and packed with pre-made objects.

Terrible port of a fantastic game. You have to install the Gentlemen of the Row mod to fix up all the problems of this buggy mess. Otherwise the story is great, the city feels great, the activities and the customization are fun.

Read the negative reviews, they are basically true. I did not expect much from this game, and I had my share of fun with it. Multiplayer can be quite challenging, and you get bounty points for multi as well. So there is no need and point grinding trough the single player, only for practice or because of the nice locations.

This game is appealing for the first 3-4 hours, because of it's great visuals, nice music and all the action, but that is all there is to it. There are no tactics in this game, it's oversimplified and boring. The PC version is simply bad. The multiplayer is unbalanced, there are no car classes, so everyone uses the fastest cars. There are no Free DLC cars for the PC. Very high graphics settings heat up your videocard.
