The Legend of Dragoon

Legend of Dragoon goes where many other RPG's have gone before. The story is a bit generic, though it picks up, and the setting is pretty typical JRPG fare. But there are two places this game absolutely nails it: characters and gameplay. The characters are different than FF. The hero is not a snot-nosed emo-type, but a regular teenager caught up the game of deadly politics and world affairs. The side characters all have more personality than most from any modern game. As far as gameplay ****! Never has an RPG had such an addictive fighting system, seriously, it's ridiculous. Every single fighting move you have you can level up to 5-6 tiers for every character. This is a fantastic RPG that still holds up in 2012, though the graphics are painful to look at nowadays, you can get used to them. Great buy.

Absolutely the most addictive and satisfying game on XBLA. I put countless hours into the first one, watching my score edge its way up, and now I get to do it all over again, only with user-generated tracks, which are already awesome (check out the Castlevania track). Bravo, RedLynx...bravo.

As an action game, The Hobbit is, **** as a platforming game it's still, meh. The camera is a bit clunky, and the voice acting rather bad. However, this game does one thing well, immersion. Despite the fact that you know it's a game, and designed to be such, it is fun surveying the environments and seeing a cartoony version of middle-earth.

I am a fan of Tetris...okay so that being said, there was something, and I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but something I just didn't like about this game. I mean, it's Tetris, so it can't be that bad, right? I don't know if it was the annoying sound effects and music, or the fact that I'm used to Tetris DS (my favorite version) and this one just didn't quite live up to it. It's the intangibles that differentiate Tetris versions and this game's intangibles just aren't that good. If you like Tetris, good, this game is Tetris. If you have money for a better version (such as the aforementioned Tetris DS) then you're better off getting that one.

Outstanding port of one of my favorite NES games. I was anxiously looking forward to this one when I first heard it announced, and it did not disappoint. The graphics update was sweet, and the extra post-game content, that much sweeter. The NPC's accents were laid on a bit heavy, but it does give the game a bit more character then it had the first time around.

Having been a HUGE fan of DQ since the very early 90's, I can say that this is the absolute pinacle of the jrpg. It is a semi-slow grind-fest, but if you're into jrpg's that's probably what you like anyway. A twelve year old obsessed with Skyrim (which is great btw) may find this game terribly boring and unrewarding, and that's okay. This game, despite the cel-shaded graphics was not made for them. It is an homage to DQ's fans, and a spectacular one!

This game tells an epic (maybe too epic, if that's possible) tale of Gabriel Belmont, the latest, and in my opinion greatest of a long line of Castlevania vampire hunters. The game is gorgeous. The monsters and characters are well done enough, but the backgrounds and levels look FANTASTIC! I got nearly creamed by more than one troll or vampire spawn simply because I was in admiration of the scenery. Konami rebooted Castlevania in a wonderful fashion and I look forward to experiencing the now re-sparked future of this series.

Castlevania: Lords of Shadow - Resurrection

Resurrection shines as the only needed DLC of this game (it explains Gabriel's fate). The two levels were somewhere in between Olrox-type battles and Titan battles, as in many ways the levels were the boss-fights. $10 was too much for this as it last about 45 minutes, I mean come on. It was a solid 45 minutes though, for what it's worth (which is apparently the aforementioned $10). Overall, good. Very good.

No **** on my review. I bought this game over a year ago and have since put, no kidding, over 500 hours into it. Usually racing games and sports game don't really do it for me at all, but this...I mean, come on. Every little thing you succeed in with this game will bump you up the leader board, which is by far the most addictive part about it. If you get a bronze medal in a track, go for silver. Got a silver, go for gold, then platinum, then just try to get better than everyone else in the world. The physics are perfect. The track design, at its best is brilliant, especially in Big Thrills DLC (all user-created tracks, of which the built-in editor allows for amazing creations). This game will frustrate those who can't appreciate it, but to those who can, welcome to hours upon hours of mind-numbing fun.

It's a decent 'expansion' with 3 levels of mostly puzzle solving and platforming. Allowing us to play as Laura was a nice touch but felt a bit tacked-on, so as to be the talking point of this particular DLC. If you're really into the story of this game then it explains a bit, though mostly just leaves room for yet another expansion. It would've been great for five dollars, but as I said, it wasn't bad. Resurrection however was AWESOME (I can't review it as it still has the release date as TBA though it's been out for weeks now.) and was very well thought out and well worth the investment. Res was short but great. 9/10 for Resurrection!

Giving a game that has many obvious merits a "zero" rating is just an annoying way of looking bitter and foolish. I played, and enjoyed, DA:O on PC and 360. That being said, it was obviously made for PC. Looking back at my calendar of 2009 I scarce remember the big fallout of console gamers crying foul about the fact that DA:O was clearly made for PC. Rather the console gamer simply felt blessed that Bioware attempted, seemingly, the impossible, to port a Baldur's Gate-esque game to a console with not-so-terrible results. DA2 is a good game. It, and all games, have their problems (the repeating dungeons just seem lazy) and if that bothers you terribly then by all means, rant. To complain that the problem with this game is development time though is ridiculous. Plenty of Maddens or 2K sports games are put out every single year with little to no improvement and the reviewers are more than happy to give them 8/10 or 9/10's. This game is different. It is not DA:O. It doesn't take away what DA:O was and is though, so if you want Origins then play Origins, if you want something different then play this. It is addictive, with good characters, story, and gameplay. But it's not Origins. If you can remember that, then you'll probably reserve your 'zero' review scores for the games they rightly belong to (Barbie's Horse Adventures, never played it but I mean, come on) and not Dragon Age II
