Levelhead9
Jul 23, 2021
Concept with the box works really well. Level creation and sharing is a lot of fun. Very good platformer, easy and complex at the same time. I did not like graphics and music, they are pretty generic and boring. Missed opportunity, especially for an indie game. I still wish there would be Mario Maker for PC, but still – levelhead is really cool.

If you are looking for a Contra-clone, this is probably as good as it gets. Controls are great. Very difficult, even on the "easy" setting, but mostly fair, at least, when you have the spread gun. That would be my first complaint – the weapons are not balanced well. In Contra III, you can beat the game with any weapon. In Super Cyborg, once you lose the spread gun, it gets so much more annoying and difficult... The artwork and the music is cool in a way, but also a bit annoying. That being said, there are not many Contra-like games out there, and this one was definitely crafted with love. If you liked Contra, do yourself a favor and get it.

Street Fighter V9

Usually I would not rate a game this early, but when I see all those 0 points for this game, I would like to tell you: I love this game. At launch times there are always server problems. Not that I like it that way, but SF5 is out since 3 days now, and the servers are running ok. Regarding the improvements during the last couple of days, I expect it to be running great very soon. And now about the "lack of content". What I miss the most is the trial mode, because it teaches you cool combos. But about the rest, like an arcade mode, or a cinematic single player mode: I simply don't care. I think the majority of serious SF-players would agree that it is not about the always-has-been-crappy single player mode, not about having 64 fighters in the rooster, but about diverse, well-balanced characters and a great fighting mechanic. And that is exactly what Capcom focused on. Thanks, Capcom!

Amanita Design's games are always great. Beautiful artwork, great and interesting music and sounds. And I think Amanitas games are the only point-and-click-adventures that I ever played without getting annoyed and then start using a walkthrough. The puzzles are not easy, but somehow solvable. And if you ever get stuck, there is a mini-game, which lets you unlock a walkthrough for the current screen. People are complaining about the short duration of the game. I don't. I'd rather have 6 great hours than 15 average. Only thing that I thought could be done better: Though the world with all its beauty and details is really immersive, the story is not. You start to like the world and its characters, but somehow the story just seems like a chain of more or less random events, and not like a complete, connected story. Maybe because it is just difficult to tell a story without any words... Anyway - highly recommended!! Looking forward to Anamita's next games!!

Bit.Trip Presents...Runner2: Future Legend of Rhythm Alien8
Oct 4, 2013
In Short: Great Game. But BIT.TRIP RUNNER (Runner1) was better. In Runner2 you are playing Commander Video, who can't stop running. You have to jump, slide, kick and block to avoid the many obstacles in his way. It's all about memorizing the obstacles. The music helps you with the tricky timing, which is quite a creative approach. Runner2 makes its predecessor look like a prototype. Graphics are much better, nice cutscenes, pretty menues, good voice over, polished music and sound effects. Some elements were carefully added to the gameplay, but still it feels pretty much like the original game, which is a very good thing. So why do I like Runner1 better then? Today's games are often designed to be as little frustrating as possible, so that anybody can beat the game and nobody is scared off by the high difficulty. I think, that's a mistake. Runner1 had a very good level design, and there were a couple of levels which made me throw my controller against the wall because they were so difficult. Every game needs levels like that, otherwise it doesn't feel rewarding to beat it. And now for Runner2: It just took me one afternoon to finish it. Not even the final boss was particularly difficult. This is what disappointed me the most.... One thing I'd criticize about Runner1 was the graphics. Often the background was full of moving, flashing things. They were so distracting that it was sometimes difficult to distinguish between all those meaningless objects and the obstacles in the foreground that would kill you, when you hit them. This problem was not solved in Runner2. In its later levels it seems even worse... If I did not know Runner1, I think I would give Runner2 a 9 or even 10/10 it is just great fun! But I do know the first part, so I know this could have been done better. Still I don't regret buying it at all, and I think I will still spend some time to unlock all the extra levels.

Stealth Bastard Deluxe9
Sep 4, 2013
SBD is a clever puzzle game. It reminded me of Portal, but has a lot of stealth elements in it, too. The gameplay and level design was perfect. Always challenging and rewarding, but never too complex or too hard. A couple of the later levels have a frustrating difficulty. That's how it should be! The final boss was a little too easy, though... What's missing is character. A lot of indie games have beautiful artworks, an unusual setting or music so distinct that it would never make it into a AAA title. That's where indie games usually shine. But SBD is a little boring in that respect. The presentation seemed quite mediocre, music was terrible... But one thing in SDB's favor: I loved the ending. Not only funny but also very intelligent. Despite it could be better in the mentioned aspects, SBD was great fun to play. Recommended to anyone.

I just finished the game. Though it is a great metal tribute the gameplay feels really messy to me. If you don't expect it to be a great game you will have lots of fun.

Thomas Was Alone7
Jun 3, 2013
Everything storytelling, graphics, music, sound everything is very simple, but is still beautiful and works great. Now for the gameplay. It seems like the creator of this video game had endless possibilities for great puzzles, because every rectangle has a really unique ability. But the puzzles are all simple usually you don't even have to think twice. As a game, Thomas Was Alone is just nice, but nothing more.

Super Hexagon9
Apr 5, 2013
Are you kidding me? This is the FIRST level? When I started playing Super Hexagon, trying to save a triangle from walls which are constantly moving in, I could not believe how hard the game is. Now, 14 hours later, I just finished the game. Prepare to die a thousand times. But still the game did not feel frustrating to me. Just very very challenging in a positive way. This is not just a game. It's a drug. Just look at the colors. It is almost hypnotizing to look at the constantly spinning screen. Two things I did not like. First, the balance between the levels could be better. Lv1&2 are ok, but Lv3 is incredibly hard. Then Lv4&5 are easy again, but Lv6 is really incredibly hardestest... Second, the global highscore list shows just the Top100. So if you are not in the Top100 (which most likely you won't), you can't see your ranking. That ****. Apart from that, it is just a fantastic arcade game. Simple. But simply great.

Dustforce4
Feb 8, 2013
To be honest, I just spent a couple of hours playing dustforce, but I think there is a reason that I stopped playing it. First of all: I like the basic concept. I think the game mechanics are very well thought out. You have full control over the many ways to elegantly move around the character in the world. Sweeping, running up walls and ceilings, dashing, double jumping and hitting enemies that's all great. Probably the most important thing that kept me from continuing to play the game was the level design. The first levels are ok, but then it gets very difficult very quickly. And the levels are not difficult in a Super Meat Boy manner they are just too long, not rewarding enough, and they just need too much skill that I was not able to acquire in the first levels. Apart from that, music is really bad, and sound design is boring as well. In the intro video, there is no sound effects at all seriously, guys! And the story cleaning the world from dust and the overall look are not appealing to me as well. And why is there no overview map for the levels? I can imagine that people who get past the steep learning curve (or better call it learning step) really enjoy the great gameplay mechanics. I however did not, and so there is not much fun left for me..

Braid10
Feb 8, 2013
It was the first Indie Game I ever played, and maybe it was the best. In the beautifully created world of Braid you have to solve puzzles, which are built around the main characters ability to rewind time. I never was a big fan of puzzle game, but the level design of Braid is so great, that I did not even peek into a walkthrough, because I just wanted to figure out all the puzzles by myself. Every puzzle is unique, short and builds upon the skills and knowledge aquired in previous ones every puzzle is perfect. The sound quality of some sound effects is not good, but most people won't notice. Apart from that, the whole sound design works great, the music is very very well chosen, and I love how the audio engine responds "correctly" when you go back and forth in time. Braid is a unique experience. Everybody really everybody should get Braid.

The Binding of Isaac6
Feb 1, 2013
Though I generally like difficult games, I am not a fan of The Binding of Isaac. You do get better every time you play it, and it is very rewarding to beat the game and it's always fun to find new items. But I don't like the whole Everything-Is-Random concept. It makes chance a big part of the game. And you have to try again and again until you not only play well enough but also are lucky enough to beat the game. And trying so many times seems like such a waste of time to me. To me the weird look and setting was ok. I liked it, but it wasn't great. The soundtrack is great I really like Danny's work! But I don't understand why it is just mono and such a bad sound quality. Maybe there were limitations in the sound engine, because also there are short dropouts during playback probably when the loop starts over again. But still that's a shame. All in all it is a game worth playing, but not worth spending too much time on it.

Blocks That Matter9
Feb 1, 2013
The gameplay is unique and great. Also, the look of the game, the funny music and the cute sound design work together really well. The only thing that I did not like was the story. It was ok for a teenager's minecraft-and-tetris-fan-story, but it wasn't a decent video game story. Anyway I would recommend this game to anyone.

Trine 2: Goblin Menace8
Jan 29, 2013
Goblin Menace has the same strength (beautiful graphics, fun gameplay) and weaknesses (unprecise game mechanics, dull music, bad voice overs) as the original game. That said, GB is a pretty descent add-on, that did not disappoint me. They really added a lot new level themes, like the desert, an aegyptian temple, the belly of a sandworm - colorful and beautiful again. The levels are a bit more challenging - so be prepared. To anyone who liked Trine 2, I would strongly recommend this add-on.

Cave Story Plus7
Jan 20, 2013
From the whole game mechanics, this game really reminds me of the SNES era. And it is quite a good game which is fun to play. But because people are writing that CaveStory is THE Indie Game, I was a little disappointed, because not only the classic games like Super Metroid are better - Cave Story also does not add anything to the genre. It is a good game, but nothing new and nothing great.
