Resident Evil 7: biohazard10
Jan 26, 2017
Being kind of a wuss, i've never really been into actual horror games. The early resident evil games i was fine with since i played them in the late 2000's so the graphics made it less threatening than if i had played them when they released. resident evil 4-6 i was also fine with since they were more oriented around action rather than horror. So that makes this the first "horror" resident evil game i've played. And damn do i love it. I played the game for two days in multiple short sessions (i had to take a lot of breaks since, as i said, i'm kind of a wuss) and i can confidently say this is probably one of my favorite playstation 4 games so far. Please note i played on a PS4 Pro, so i can't speak for the graphics or performance an an og PS4 or PS4 Slim. Graphically the game is very appealing, despite some textures looking of lower quality than others. It runs solid too. I hadn't noticed any significant frame drops or screen tearing during the course of my playthrough. The character models themselves are on point as well. Storywise i don't want to spoil anything, so i'll try to be as simple as possible. the premise is: you play as a man named Ethan, who goes to a plantation in Louisiana to find his missing wife Mia. He gets there, and as you can assume, resident evil hijinks ensue. The tone of the game is more akin to older resident evil titles rather than the newer ones. It is serious, yes, but some of the line deliveries can reach almost campish levels of amusing, at least to me. I'm not sure if that one on purpose, but i hope it was. In terms of the actual plot i liked it a lot. I saw some hate for the ending section, but i didn't think it was that bad. Disappointing? a little, yeah. But not bad. A significant portion of the game is dedicated to exploring and puzzles. The puzzles aren't too hard to figure out, and exploring the house made me feel tension i haven't felt from a game in a long time. Gunplay is toned down down dramatically from the last few resident evil releases. That's not to say it isn't fun however. For the most part the combat is well done. You have a variety of weapons to work with to tackle the challenges you face, including boss fights, which i was surprised this game had. Being that there were limited resources to work with, almost every encounter i had with enemies had me on edge. Some people had problems with the game being in first person, and i myself have some mixed feelings about it. Yes it's scary, and yes it makes the shooting tighter, but my problem with it is more of a character problem than a gameplay problem. See Ethan as a character isn't that great. Yeah i know the focus is more on the family than him but still. I feel like if the game was 3rd person he could've felt more like... you know, an actual interesting character. He would've at least felt more like a genuine character rather than just a vessel for the player to see the game through, but i diigress. To be honest i had some doubts about this game when it was first revealed. But i'm relieved at just how wrong i was Overall, resident evil 7 is a truly remarkable experience, one that i'll no doubt come back to again

of all the games I've played this year, this is the one i expected to be my goty. instead it's pretty meh. the gameplay is fun, and the graphics are good, but the story is atrocious. it hardly explains anything and comes off as pretty generic. if you want to find out the actual full story, you gotta go to the bungie website. i also don't like that you have to be online at all time, even when playing alone. the multiplayer was probably the best part of the game, but multiplayer alone can't completely save this game.

a really good tps with great gameplay and variety. there are various characters to play as, as well as different variants, and each character gets unique weapons and abilities which keep the game fresh. in addition, you can also unlock weapon upgrades, accessories, hats, and consumables from the sticker shop to use in game. the only problem is the lack of a push to talk option for mics. which makes the game lobbies pretty annoying and i usually just end up muting everyone. other than that a really great game with a unique idea.

despite some technical issues, this ia a really good game. the story is great, with good characters, and decent voice acting. the gameplay is fun, and there are many weapons with varying move-sets for each. graphically the cut scenes are beautiful, and the in game graphics are pretty good as well. the only problems i had were some slow downs in big battles, and texture loading times.

despite some flaws this is a really good port. it comes with several dlc packs, including both dlc characters. there is some frame rate drop, but not often. the graphics are ok, but can't really compare to the consoles or pc version. the controls can be remapped however you want, and controls very well. the only other negative is that co-op is restricted to only one other person .

Demon Gaze9

an impressive rpg, with a good story, and good first person exploration and battle system. you explore dungeons in order to kill demons and get gold to buy things and pay your rent at the inn you're staying at. the boss' in the dungeons are powerful demons that, if you can beat them, will be captured and fight for you. you can create and get rid of party members as you please, and rent out rooms to increase your party size. the combat is also in first person where you can see the character portrait of the member as they do an action. it gets grind heavy at times, but in a surprisingly fun way, although some people may not like that, as well as the frequent random encounters with enemies, along with the overall difficulty, although the difficulty can be changed a bit.

the same great game as the PS3 version, only for slightly less money and on a handheld. unfortunately, it also, doesn't have the english lyric translations, as the PS3 version, which is only slightly disappointing. the songs are good, and the game is solid.

while this game is great fun, with parkour shooting, and mechs, people looking for a good story won't enjoy this at all. there is a campaign mode, but it's basically multiplayer with some narration. not even good narration. graphically it's very good looking, and i haven't noticed a lot of texture pop-in at all. game-play is solid, aside from the stupid A.I. in the game. content wise, it's a fun, balanced multiplayer game, but that's about all it is.

for the $15 you spend to get this game, you get a great amount of content. the game play is fast, and fun, and the upgrades and abilities you find throughout the game keeps it fresh. the boss fights as well are really well done too. there's a sense of exploration as you travel through the levels. if that's not your thing there's an arrow that clearly points you where you need to go. graphically it's gorgeous, with no lag that I've noticed. it's an arcade-y game so there isn't too much depth to the story, and i really wish that there was. however, despite that, it's still a really good game.

Resonance of Fate10
Feb 27, 2014
this game features a complex and satisfying combat system, that's unique among rpg's. the story is good and takes a good 60 hours to complete, as well as arena battles and post game areas that add to play time. graphically this game is beautiful. the amazing gameplay, story, and graphics make this game not only a really great game, but possibly my favorite game of all time.

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII9
Feb 17, 2014
this is the final part of the XIII series, and a huge improvement over XIII-2. the gameplay has been altered, having a more action-y feel to it, which is surprisingly fun. more fun than the atb system used previously. you go into battle, with lightning as your lone character. you'll have several costumes to choose from during battle, which grant different effects, depending on what you **** music is great, and the graphics are once again, beautiful. the characters for the most part do a nice job, but the overall story, isn't as good as it could've been, especially the ending. despite that this is a very well done game.
PlayStation 3

Killzone: Shadow Fall8
Feb 14, 2014
not perfect, but still really good. the graphics in this game are amazing, especially the scenery. the story was, alright, but not great. the characters were pretty dull for the most part, and overall plot was passable. the game-play itself is great, however there is no aim assist in this game, and while that didn't bother me, it might bother some. multiplayer has 24 player tdm, or three variations of warzones. in addition, players can make their own warzones with customized rules.

Mass Effect 310
Feb 10, 2014
a wonderful game and great ending to the trilogy. the story follows you as you try to find support from the other races of the galaxy to try to fight the reapers. the story, as usual is great, however i disliked the lack of loyalty missions that were in mass effect 2, as well as the much smaller team you have at your disposal, limiting your choices of squadmates. the graphics are top notch as well, as well as the game-play, aside from a few minor glitches i found. along with the single player, there is a surprisingly enjoyable co-op multiplayer mode, where you and up to 3 other people fight waves of enemies across various locations in the galaxy. the enemy faction variants are cerberus, geth, collector, and reaper. playing the co-op mode increases galactic readiness percentage, which in short, allows you to use more of your forces in the final push.

Mass Effect 29
Feb 5, 2014
a clear improvement over the original. improved graphics and gameplay, along with an even better story than the first. your character personality can be changed once again based on your actions. the ending is influenced by how loyal your squad members are to you which happens during loyalty missions, and in some cases, dialogue choices. the gameplay itself has been greatly improved and now has special actions that take place during some cutscenes, somewhat like qte's. left clicking is a renegade action, and right clicking is a paragon action. there's a larger variety of guns and powers now, although no gun mods which is a little disappointing. the voice acting has improved a bit, and the characters are more interesting now, which is also nice. the only problems are that there are still glitches, mainly getting stuck on pieces of scenery and having to wait to die or restarting the mission or last save.

Mass Effect8
Feb 2, 2014
a very good story, with likable characters. however the gameplay feels awkward and a little bit boring, especially the vehicle sections. i like how dynamic the choices there are to help shape your character's personality. constant freezing is also a problem with this game, as well as glitches like when i go through the floor and have to reload the save, or wait to die.

Final Fantasy XIII-26
Feb 1, 2014
although it tries hard to be even better than it's predecessor, this game just isn't as good. the graphics are once again beautiful, however the story is pretty confusing, and you'll find yourself questioning the logic this game uses at times, and it's all around pretty boring. the same could be said about the two main characters, Serah and Noel, the former who barely has a personality, and the latter with a personality you probably won't care about. the gameplay is, once again, very good, and paradigm shifts are faster to pull off than in XIII, which is nice. you can capture monsters in battle, as well as several secret ones hidden in the world. despite this, the music isn't great, which is a letdown. the crystarium which is how you upgraded your characters, has gone from a web-like grid, to a linear upgrade system which is a shame. this game is a bit shorter than the previous one, (i finished it around 20 hours earlier than FFXIII), it instead tries to make up for it with multiple endings. i really wanted to like this game, because i loved XIII, but it's just not as good.

Final Fantasy XIII9
Jan 28, 2014
this game has amazing graphics. while some of the characters are dull and can be really annoying the overall story is nice. the combat system is nice, with the exception of switching paradigms. when you switch paradigms in the game it takes several seconds in real time, which gets frustrating. another thing that bothers me is that you don't receive gil (currency) in battle, which is annoying as well. however, the music, especially the battle music, is amazing.

Battlefield 49
Jan 26, 2014
even better than the PS3 version, the PS4 version of bf4 has shorter loads, a higher resolution at 1080p, and better framerate, now at 60 fps. several game modes now have room for more players, i.e. conquest now can have up to 64 players instead of 24. if you bought the last gen version, you can get this version for only $10 which is nice as well. the only real problems i have is that the game sometimes freezes on the load screen, and while less than the last gen version, there is still some texture pop in, as well as the sp, while a bit prettier, still isn't any better than before.

while this game features some kickass music, that's pretty much all it's got going for it. being that this is an arcade type game, there's no real story, the objective is to save all the humans. the gameplay, whic is the most important aspect of this type of game, is alright at best, and be incredibly boring at times.i got it for free so i can't complain too much, however this game is not worth paying for at all.

this game has nice graphics and a decent story. the gameplay is also pretty good but can get pretty monotonous at times. the best parts of the game are when you become giant knack and can just rampage, however when you go back to regular knack it's just not as fun. it's a fun game, but could have been way better than it was.

a great RPG game. the story itself is humorous, and pretty good, but suffers from a few flaws. my main gripe is that some of the english voice actors are awful. the gameplay is addictive and the graphics are alright, but not great. the best part is how much there is to do. there is the main story, but you can also go inside of items/weapons and fight enemies and move up floors in order to increase the stats.

Nov 16, 2013
this is my first GG game. so i can't compare how it is to any other guilty gear games. it has a a fun combat system, but the bars on the side of the screen in the fights get pretty annoying. the story was alright and there's plenty of characters to choose from, although i don't understand why some of their names are written in Japanese. the online works well with very small amounts of lag, if any at all. but for some reason when i play vs. CPU it sometimes lags more than online, and i don't understand why. also, there are no english voice actors, japanese only. take from that what you will. being that this is a $15 downloadable game, it's well worth the price

while the English voice acting is awful. the Japanese sounds much better. the graphics look amazing, although the animations can look awkward at times. the combat is a bit odd but easy to grasp and pretty fun. the story is alright but the characters themselves are pretty bland and models are reused a lot. there is also a lot of unnecessary movement when the characters are talking. definitely not for everyone, and a great game if you look past it's flaws

a great game. the multiplayer is fun and require a good amount of teamwork or strategy to be good at. the modes are nice, although i kind of dislike obliteration. it's sort of like sabotage from call of duty, but on battlefield's bigger maps it's not very fun. the only bad part of this game is the single player. it's short and boring. but this is battlefield. battlefield games, with the exception of bad company 1 and 2, are based around multiplayer. i don't know why they even bothered putting in a single player though. it would've saved them time and money if they focused on the multiplayer itself. aside from this there are a few small glitches, but nothing major or game-breaking.

Persona 4 Arena10
Oct 20, 2013
it's just as good as persona 4, in it's own way. there is a story mode, which involve a lot of reading through dialogue, as well as your character's thoughts. it takes place two months after the true ending in persona 4 and is very well done. the game-play itself is also very good. it's simple to understand the basics, but difficult to master it there is also an arcade mode, which is a shorter version of story mode, online battling, a score attack mode in which the a.i. difficulty shoots up past 'hell' difficulty, and 390 total combo challenges between all the characters.

a nearly perfect game. really challenging, in a good way, and the boss fights are incredible. there isn't much in terms of story, but you can learn about the world by reading the descriptions of items. it isn't much, but it's there. the only bad part of the game is, some areas lag, and in one area, the majority of the level is laggy. it's difficult, but a lot easier than demon's souls.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim3
Sep 27, 2013
i really hate this game. for one, it's too easy. the only way it'll be challenging is at master difficulty. the melee combat feels like i'm slicing at air instead of enemies. the dragon fights, while at first are awesome, soon happens often enough to feel more annoying than cool. the story is kind of interesting, but ironically, the side quests are more well done than the main plot. on top of all that the game lags A LOT. the spells are alright, but the only part of the game i think is good, is the archery, but it takes a little while to get good. the graphics are also beautiful, but that's meaningless when the majority of the game is bad.

this is a fun game. gameplay-wise at least. if you're looking for a story, i suggest looking elsewhere. but if you just want fun some fun gameplay for a cheap price, then this is your game. you pick two special skills to bring into battle with you, along with your normal attacks. there's story mode, or what little story this game actually has, and vs, mode where you can fight a cpu or a friend. there is no online mode.

Sep 22, 2013
while frustrating at times, catherine tells a very good story. what's best is that there are multiple endings, which helps to add even more replay value to a fun game. the gameplay is unique,as you need to move blocks around to reach a goal, while avoiding some giant monsters trying to kill you, or pushing sheep out of your way. the deaths look pretty nice as well, and you can interact with people through texts, at a bar, and is affected based on your answers to questions you'll receive.
