Lifeless mess of a comedy which totally screws up a murder mystery. And absolutely no sense of comic timing anywhere. I hated this the more I watched it.

THis is tone of the all-time best films, ever. It's based on a true situation, and from a dramatized novel written by an Australian author. It presents a famous event from a very interesting angle, and cleverly tries to undercut your expectations of how things work. One of the most under-appreciated aspect of this film is the way the emotions are so carefully played through, from serious drama to light comic moments to dark humour to heart-wrenching tragedy - even in the same scene! I totally love how this film sets things up, then plays them out with some wonderful character insight and great dramatic twisting. Textbook example of how to do top-class storytelling to get viewers involved in the situation, and do a world-famous event and still keep it fresh.

This is a classic story practically everyone should get. It's one of those rare gems where the serious critics and most casual viewers can agree what a great story it is. It's thrilling, dramatic, well-paced, great characterization and top-notch high-stakes tension, that is really good to watch. This really is an all-round top story that is highly deserving of its acclaim. Total shame the director was never appreciated for his work here.

To tally blah art picture, with a snail's pacing, self-conscious settings, and way too indulgent delivery. The lead characters are cute but monotonous. The storyline doesn't really go anywhere, and this just feels too overwrought. This film sums up the worst of dull, tedious, over-promoted art-house fare for me.

Great fun story that spoofs action films, while playing a good action story. Some bits are a bit too depressing, but overall the tone is fun,and tight comic take with a some gentle and not-so-gentle ribbing of the genre. The casting is uniformly excellent in this.
