Clair Obscur: Expedition 338
Jun 7, 2025
(8.5/10) -36 hours to complete. Clair Obscur is one of the most emotionally thoughtful games I’ve played in a long time. Beneath its stunning visuals and inventive combat system is a quietly powerful story about grief, illusion, and the longing to wake up from someone else’s dream. What begins as a fantastical journey slowly reveals deeper themes of identity, memory, and liberation from imposed **** me, the game became a metaphor for escaping a narcissistic world—one built on appearances, perfection, and control. The canvas, as a central image, speaks to the danger of living in illusion—whether it’s a fantasy, a family narrative, or an image you’re expected to maintain. The real battle isn’t just against bosses or enemies, but against the pull to disappear into something **** pacing in the final act could be tighter. After two well-structured chapters, the sudden freedom in the last area can feel disorienting, especially when enemies spike in difficulty and quest locations become more obscure. That said, the core experience remains powerful and beautifully executed, especially for a first release of this scope. What sets Clair Obscur apart is that it doesn’t just aim to entertain—it invites reflection. On what it means to belong. On whether living in comfort is worth the cost of your truth. I’m grateful I played it. Games like this don’t come around often.

I put 65 hours in. Beat all the main story quests, dual side quests, and skipped most of the unnecessary NPC side quests, except for when I needed the item reward. I got all legendary (battle-tested) gear and went on to finish the thing. Overall, very good! I didn't play the original. I liked 4/8 of the stories. The stories I didn't care about I just skipped and got the gist of. I feel I would have enjoyed the game more if they interconnected the stories of only a few characters instead of 8. Once they come together at the end, it's a little awkward. The personalities don't fit together and you get a weird feeling. Very unlike FFX when the characters all feed off each other and grow together. This is the main thing that it's missing. Think of it as 8 short, separate tales, that are effected by some greater evil...then they come together in the end. They tried to fix this with "story banter", but it comes off as very contrived. The combat was fun. I enjoyed the final boss battle. It was epic because you get to control all 8 in combat at once. Never seen that. I had fun in that fight. Wouldn't play again, but was worth the price of admission. Looking forward to FF 16

It gives you an authentic "Your Hogwarts Journey" feel. Even fetch quests are fun because of the seamless integration into the Harry Potter Universe. There will never be a game that comes closer to capturing this kind of experience again! Buy it now; you won't regret it!
