This review is for the PS5 version of the game. RE1 kicked off one of the longest lasting videogame series in history and defined the survival horror genre back in 1996. Only for that you have to give this game a credit. This remake takes the original and makes it even better. Besides the visual upgrade, there have been several changes to gameplay and story, but all of them are welcome. That beeing said, the game doesn't do anything groundbreaking new. The formula of 1996 remains unchanged. That's a positive thing, if you like that formula. Or a negative thing, if you don't. Like most old school games of that time it is not very user-friendly and very unforgiving towards mistakes. You mostly end up in bad situations because of something you couldn't know, because the game didn't tell you. The biggest enemy of the game are the camera angels that don't let you see what's ahead of you. Or the inventory management, or deciding when to save and when not to. In general the game has nothing to do with skill, but with knowing where what is and making the right decisions at the right time. This makes the first walk through a frustrating experience. It's the replaying of the game, where the fun comes in. Trying to achieve the perfect run on even harder difficulties is the essential part of this game. The problem with this is, if you are used to modern games you will probably not have a good time with this game. As a remake I think there should be more options to make this more accessible to new players. As a matter effect I would call this a remaster rather than a remake. But I have to rate this as what it claims to be. And as a remake it lacks the innovation it needs to bring it to a new generation. But here is hoping for a "real" remake coming at some point down the line. I would still recommend this version over the original since it is better in every way. But you should see it as a simple improvement (remaster), not the reimagining (remake) it claims to be.

Red Dead Redemption was Rockstars approach to a genre that was very much ignored by the gaming industry. They did a fantastic job capturing the loneliness and freedom of the wild west. But other than in their GTA series, the real star of the show is the story. John Marstons struggle to escape his past and find redemption to live a peaceful life with his family is timeless. The graphics on the Xbox 360 were state of the art and the dialogue and voice actors outstanding. An instant classic.

Halo had a gigantic impact when it came out. It revolutionized the fps genre on consoles with it's smooth gameplay, interesting story, for the time amazing graphics and an unforgettable soundtrack. Bungie has created a game for the ages and with the Master Chief as it's hero, an Icon of video gaming.

An absolut masterpiece and probably the best story driven videogame made so far. The characters all follow their motivations in believebel ways and the writers didn't shy away from the inevitable consequences their decisions bring with them. The acting is impeccable and the graphics are some of the best you can expect from this generation of gaming. Don't miss out on this game because of the mixed user reviews. The negative reviews are absolutely underserved and written by people who can't appreciate honest writing and prefer stories that go exactly the way they expect. NaughtyDog has done an incredible job here and has done so much for videogaming as a storytelling media. If you're not sensitive to difficult topics and demonstration of violence in games, this is an absolute must play for you.
