Borderlands 40

Insufferably poor performance and optimization. Would first and foremost recommend a hard pass, but if not, at least give the devs a few months to sort out the issues with the game.

Updated EULA/TOS that turns the game into malware/spyware, as well as other shady nonsense.

Seemed like a really neat game that I wanted to try, so I picked it up. Too buggy/janky to be able to make any sort of meaningful progress. Gave it up after about half a day.

Regarding Steam (supposedly "SteamDeck Verified") version - seems like an interesting game with a good concept, but unplayable. Unable to progress; controls do not work, or are poorly explained.

Nioh: Complete Edition0

Another abhorrent excuse for a game for which the developer did not include proper keyboard/mouse translation/conversions or layouts for. No idea what button does what. Got absolutely slaughtered by the generic trash guard at the very beginning of the game. Twice. Excellent waste of ~80 gigs of hard drive space, hours of download time, only for ~3 minutes of insufferably bad gameplay. At least I got it for free during one of Epic's weekly giveaways, so no money was wasted.

Disgaea 6: Defiance of Destiny2
Jul 10, 2021
Needs significant touchup work done; odd freezes at the beginning of conversations (usually after returning from missions); audio skips/cuts out during dialogue; the graphics are incredibly poorly optimized for the Switch (yeah, sure, you can reduce the graphics quality in the settings, but it’s absurd that it isn't optimized for the platform it’s meant to run on in the first place).

Great value proposition. A good deal of content, a delightful soundtrack, gorgeous artwork, and a decent story. It is a delight being able to play this again after many years.

Regarding the Switch version - the controls are insufferable. < 2 hours on record, and I had to call it quits. Huge regret-purchase.

A cute little something to pass the time. Decent story, soundtrack and art style. Bad value proposition, though. Difficult to justify a $20 price tag for such little content.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons3
Feb 28, 2021
Cute, fun, laid-back time-filler. Bad value proposition, however. Not a great deal of content for the price. Passing events/occurrences is frustrating. Missing (not being able to experience at all due to time/schedule constraints) meteor showers and more is a bother. RNG with Redd’s artwork is especially bad.

The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild0
Feb 28, 2021
Overhyped, overpriced regret-purchase riding on the name of its predecessors and nothing more. * Weapons break. Unable to get any meaningful combat practice in before equipment is gone. Lack of proficiency with weapons/combat/timing leads to disastrous results in boss fights.
* Bad control scheme. To much to do with so few buttons. Far too easy to get confused, stumble over too many actions in a short time. * Horrible “stealth” mechanics. Split second reaction time required to get a stealth kill; fail, and the whole Yiga Clan knows you’re there. Getting through the hideout is an absolute pain.

Decent metroidvania. Good deal of content. Very badly optimized for the Switch, however. Considerable lag/slowdown at times. Some loading screens are excessively long (staircase shortcut near the beginning of the library, to name one). Detest games in which the “game over” screen/sequence can’t be skipped. Yes, yes, I died. Fine. Let me jump back into the game ASAP and try again. Don’t make me stare at the “game over” and loading screens for up to a minute.
