Will Antoine achieve his musical dream? How long can Ladonna hold onto her business when her husband and sons (and now mother) live long distance in Baton Rouge? Theirs are among the myriad stories swirling in the funky gumbo of this one-of-a-kind drama.

Treme is like Cajun food--it's spicy, it's weird and it's good, but it takes a while to appreciate.

In season two, the strengths of Treme remain strengths, while some of the show's weaknesses have been much improved.

Treme gives you the best, then, of dramas and documentaries: a moving snapshot of a city, and its flesh-and-blood people, in transition.

Some aspects of this show work better than others, but, in its generally excellent second season, the drama has cohered into a compelling, if sprawling, portrait of the Crescent City.

Treme, created by "Wire" mastermind David Simon, may not ultimately get to the level of those others, because it's going to take a while to sort out the characters and lay down the themes. It also looks to have a deliberate pace, and it doesn't seem to be setting up for a lot of blood-and-guts action, so it may end up attracting a more cerebral crowd.

There are scenes in the first five episodes of the new season that are as compelling as anything television has to offer. But the viewer has to wade through material that fails more often than not to deliver on its promise.

David Simon manages to transport, with almost unimaginable technical and artistic quality, the viewer to New Orleans and make him get attached to the elements of this incredible city. Music is part of the work. It is a protagonist. The definitive series for those who love jazz, music and Mardi Gras.

1 season's worth **** concept utterly buried under 3 seasons of obnoxious, loud music. if you come into this show with an interest in jazz, swing, whatever other adjacent music that's played in this show, you will find yourself never wanting to listen to it again after a couple of seasons. also, steve zahn should be banned from hollywood for how gratingly annoying every moment of his performance is here across multiple seasons. its mind blowing that the creators let that man write and perform so many god awful songs for this series.
