Throw in grandiose crime scenes with those biblical implications and a bubbling cauldron in the desert and you have another bizarre guilty pleasure that taps into our dark sides and keeps us watching.

While it’s too early to say whether the show really jells. .... The material is consistently elevated by the actors, most notably Nash-Betts, who brings a grounded understatedness to Lois that saves her from falling into a river of clichés. Manville is great, too, quite literally licking her lips over the prospect of portraying a domineering, perverse caretaker.

I thought the series was really good. The characters are interesting and multi-layered. Everything turns out differently than you would expect at first. You can actually watch the series twice, as it sheds a different light on all the events after the plot twist. It reminds me a little of Fight Club or Sixth Sense.

WOW!Neicy delivers one hell of a performance in this new series. Grotesquerie wasn't one I had on my highest anticipated shows for the fall season this year, but I am happy to say that it is one of the most thrilling pilots for a horror series I've seen. Ryan Murphy has returned with this new series to bring forward a crafty, and thought-provoking show that a fantastic actor leads in a role that allows her to excel in a way I had never seen her do before. The story itself weaving through from the introduction is what we might expect from Ryan after his tenure with AHS but the way the show moved was somewhat different from his other works and it wasn't a bad thing. From the beginning the levels of psychological terror explored and the possibilities that lay ahead for Lois' case are laid out with both graphic presentation and stunning visual display.

While the series is off to a fittingly audacious yet wildly over-familiar start, neither the titles Grotesquerie nor American Horror Story: Grotesquerie would truly capture the best reason to check it out — namely, the absolute pleasure of watching Niecy Nash front and center as the undisputed star.

Grotesquerie is a slow burn, but it is intriguing. Elsewhere, it touches on reality TV, addiction, guns, faith and the mundanity of marriage. It may be too much, all at once, and as is often the case with Murphy shows, it strives to find a balance between genuine provocation and being shocking just because he can be. Even so, these opening episodes suggest it is worth persevering with.

Whether it’s a good murder mystery is still up in the air after the first two episodes. But damn if Nash-Betts doesn’t completely command our attention during her copious screen time.

Procedurals take on a granular level of investigative detail that this show is just uninterested in developing. .... More effective is the introduction of a new priest (suspect?) named Father Charlie (Nicholas Chavez), who is giving a sermon about hubris and faith, foregrounding some of the themes of the show again.

Grotesquerie has no substance to go with its dubious style. Perhaps the likeable Kelce will make it more bearable. For now, this crass serial killer thriller feels dead on arrival.

Overall, this show is interesting to me. Cinematically stunning, it was very well show. The acting was superb and a strong cast. However, the story is hard to follow. It was confusing, intentionally, and putting the pieces together was fun, but I can't help but feel like the first half of the show is so disjointed from the rest and I'm more confused than when I started. I think it was shot in a way to give us a similar disorientation as we move along with Lois and the rest of the cast, but a little more elaboration would go a long way. I hope that there is a season 2 and we're able to wrap everything to completion without too many annoying plot holes or an attempt to drag this story on for too many seasons as a cash grab. If you don't mind some interesting twists (think Shutter Island), I'd give it a shot.

It's very difficult to really understand what's happening in the series. It's weird but i liked it.

Started strong. Reminded me of Longlegs and Seven but it went downhill with a complicated plot about nothing. Nevertheless, Niecy Nash delivered another great performance. Sadly, it went nowhere. Felt like there were a couple of episodes missing.

Parece que es patética, desagradable, y que para nada aporta valor a quien la ve

Ryan Murphy must be stopped. Every show is worse than the previous one. Also, Grotesquerie has the worst plot twist in the history of TV.
