Km. 0 - Kilometer Zero

That's what separates good films from bad. And that's what makes Km. 0 stand out.

Consistently amusing, candy-colored sex romp -- about romantic match-ups in Madrid that go both wrong and right.

Lightweight yet alluring.

There's lots of half-naked flesh on display, and an enticing sense of hot action afoot (especially between the two gay guys), but the directors seem timid about sex, and really, what's the point of being Spanish if you're afraid to show the good stuff?

If only they had allowed their characters to develop naturally after those first mismatched meetings, Km. 0 might have ventured into more intriguing territory.

The stories don't resonate, the film has a drab look and feel, and it lacks the passionate zing with which the least of Almodovar's works teems.

It's hard to fathom what they intended for this forgettable group of lonelyhearts, other than to choreograph a whopping 14 happy endings at once--all of them forced, none of them earned.
