One caveat: The film has more blood-splatter than a dozen zombie movies. If you can handle that, Doomsday's drunken mash-up of futuristic and feudal is surprisingly satisfying.

Neil Marshall's flair for visceral action more than compensates for his script's lack of conceptual novelty in Doomsday. Principally South Africa-shot tale of a post-apocalyptic Great Britain cobbles together large chunks of "Escape From New York," "The Road Warrior," "28 Days Later" and "Resident Evil," but those with a taste for revved-up, splattery fantasy thrills won't be complaining.

This pretty much sums Doomsday up. Suspend you disbelief a wee bit and sit back and enjoy. It

In my honest opinion Rhona Mitra and David O'Hara did a great job acting. The nudity wasn't to my liking and I hated Sol with a burning desire for his suffering. I very much liked the plot even though it isn't the most original. Overall though, I really liked the movie but I understand why others didn't.

Marshall’s fixation on John Carpenter and early James Cameron is all too apparent, but his own distinctive cinematic style isn’t, making Doomsday a likeably rambling but generic shoot-’em-up.

Mitra, clad in the requisite tight, sexy outfits, conveys a suitable toughness but little in the way of personality, while such distinguished British actors as Bob Hoskins and Adrian Lester dutifully show up to collect their paychecks.

As a guilty pleasure, it’s spectacularly entertaining

Marshall's film is crammed full of good ideas but doesn't have the cohesion to pull them all together. Less effective than "Dog Soldiers," never mind "The Descent."

I still believe with all my heart that no movie with real car stunts, a tough-chick hero, and a severed head that thunks directly into the camera can be all bad. But this is pushing it.

This is a highly underrated film. Brilliant storyline, fantastic actors and I only wish they'd do a sequel! Watch it online for free: ****/watch-239-Doomsday-online-free

While undeniably stupid, Doomsday is actually kind of fun, if you're willing to look at it that way. The film is hardly meant to be taken seriously, anyway. Lose yourself in its absurdities and just enjoy its half-decent action sequences.

This borrows a lot from other films. Well to be more accurate it steals a lot from other films. If Max from Mad Max (1979), Snake Plissken from Escape from New York (1981), William Wallace from Braveheart (1995) and Jim from 28 Days Later (2002) were to have a baby then this would be it! The first part in London is fun but rather redundant, the first bit in Scotland a fantastic ride, the medieval bit is a jolting misplace and the last part in Scotland is climactic. Overall I would have to say that it is a fun ride let down by too many reminiscent features and a fire castle chapter. The amazing highlights are the explosive stunts, darkly humoured tribal dancing and the steam train. It was a medieval mistake but feral Scotland fun. London didn't really figure.

A proudly British dystopian sci-fi / fantasy / action / adventure flick. Seemed like this one couldn't settle on a specific movie to rip off, so it just grabbed a **** of mismatched favorites and crammed them all together in one big, horribly jumbled mess. I think it's safe to say this is the first time a film has ever transitioned from Outbreak to 28 Days Later to Children of Men to Escape From New York to Lord of the Rings to Gladiator before finally settling in with Mad Max for the grand finale. By its third shift in cast, setting and theme, I'd written the whole thing off and was content to just sit back and enjoy the trainwreck. If you've ever been browsing the shelves and thought to yourself "I'm really in the mood for a cannibalistic, choreographed, ska-based dance number set in the charred remains of the Thunderdome," well, look no further. High marks for the visuals, though, which are about the only reason anyone should give this one a second thought.Z

Doomsday spends almost two hours of screen time on gore, subpar action and an incoherent plot that feels like a poor compilation of better movies. It leaves its cast stranded with one-dimensional, uninteresting characters and therefore finds a place amongst the weakest dystopia movies.
