Amnesiac

The film uses minimal locations, minimal cast, and minimal blood for a story that, in another director’s hands, could play like Grand Guignol. But this sense of restraint — which, combined with some stylish choices on Polish’s part, can be quite elegant — is also what makes it largely forgettable.

Helmer Michael Polish and his spouse-star, Kate Bosworth, were reportedly attracted to the project for the change-of-pace role it afforded her. But even beyond its sketchy screenplay, the pic’s main problem is that Bosworth lacks the villainous authority required to make Mike Le and Amy Kolquist’s tricky if undercooked screenplay work.

A home-captivity picture boasting all the implausibility associated with that genre and nearly none of the thrills.

Most people would give up on it if they stumbled across it on Netflix, and the payoff certainly justifies that abandonment.

The plot develops confidently (if unsurprisingly), abetted by coincidence and shoddy police work, but it's the tone that grates.

Its concern for the reclamation of identity is less important than the dull approximation of The Others' stark haunted-house atmospherics.

With no names given to the characters, you never have to remember them. But it's really best to forget about all of Amnesiac.
