St. Louis Post-Dispatch
Almost as good as the first film, it has James Stewart in one of his earliest roles. [02 Aug 2005, p.E1]

The film masterfully balances comedy and crime-solving, showcasing the chemistry and wit of its lead characters.

Time Out
Surprisingly successful sequel to the delightful, Dashiell Hammett-based comedy-mystery, The Thin Man, with Powell and Loy as charmingly witty as ever as the bibulous sophisticates Nick and Nora Charles, revelling in sparkling dialogue as they solve a murder.

Chicago Reader
The most elegant title for a sequel in film history belongs, happily, to one of the most elegant sequels.

With After the Thin Man, the best thing about the series remains the playful, boozy, flirtatious repartee between Powell and Loy (even if Nick seems a bit bossier this time around).

Variety
It has the same stars, William Powell and Myrna Loy; the same style of breezy direction by W.S. Van Dyke; almost as many sparkling lines of dialog and amusing situations; but it hasn't, and probably couldn't have, the same freshness and originality of its predecessor.

The New Yorker
It isn't particularly entertaining; it's just busy.
