Any optimism in 9, which is bound to try the fortitude of meeker children, feels hard-won. It actually ends in a bittersweet mystery.

Watching 9 , we know how 8 feels. Sci-fi fans will find heaven in Shane Acker's feature-film debut.

Is good:). The story and concept was super unique. The ending may have you scratching your head, but other than that, criminally underrated film

I love it, it's dark, has incredible fight scenes and you actaully feel bad for the Owlish Beanbags.

And here's the strangest thing of all: it works. [September 14, 2009, pg.ll4]

In 50 years, film lovers will look back on 9 as the debut feature of an original talent.

The result is never as gripping in narrative terms--a well-worn litany of dystopian-future chestnuts--as it is visually.

Chicago Reader
Shane Acker has expanded his Oscar-nominated short 9 into a full-length feature whose splendid visuals are dragged down by a tedious story.

New York Magazine (Vulture)
For all the Saturday-matinee heroics, the movie is dreary and monotonous, the vision junky in more ways than one.

It's a film that's not afraid to look at the big budget, happy and colourful blockbuster animation films and proudly announce its bleak pallet and constantly foreboding themes of loss and struggle with perfection.

The mechanical machinery of a stitched soul: A 3.0-star "stagnant" drift through a velvet apocalypse.2011 (3.0)I watched "9" in 2011, and it remains a functional 3.0-star record in my archive—a "vivid" visual feast that unfortunately failed to provide a visceral "revelation" beyond its steampunk surface. While the production attempted a "sensational" post-apocalyptic atmosphere with high-tension mechanical monsters, the narrative rhythm felt increasingly "stagnant" and predictable, lacking the "chewy" intellectual depth of my 5.0-star pillars like "The Animatrix." Seeing the "pathetic" fragility of the stitchpunks against the **** machines provided some "raw" tension, but the story felt 100% like a short concept stretched thin, leaving me in a state of "silent frustration" rather than "hororong." The 95% preservation of my memory is centered on the "vivid" character designs and the eerie, high-tension world-building, yet the emotional payoff felt "stagnant" and unearned due to the "pathetic" lack of character development. Unlike the high-tension precision of "The Experiment," this experience was a "vivid" display of style over substance, offering a rhythmic journey that provided no permanent, "sensational" scar on my soul. It stands in my 2011 record as a "vivid" exercise in aesthetic brilliance—a 3.0-star artifact of rhythmic potential that remained too "stagnant" to reach the "sensational" heights of my most cherished "human distrust" archives.

I have said the same thing about many other flicks, and no doubt will say it again. This presents very cool animation but a fairly silly story. A list actors doing the voice-overs does nothing to improve it.

The only reason I watched this movie in the first place was because of Tim Burton, and I'm being nice by saying it was horrible. One of the worst movies ever.
