Worms Battlegrounds is a fun game that can be enjoyed solo or when playing against others. The core gameplay that made earlier Worms titles so great is here, but with many refinement added to it.

If you are new to the Worms series, or if you have done away with any of your previous generation consoles, then Battlegrounds is a great place to start, or update to. However, if you are still playing older iterations, it doesn’t really offer enough to warrant you moving on.

Technically sure-footed and still a wonderful multiplayer experience. But overpriced and more rehashed than a Cheech and Chong movie sequel. [August 2014, p74]

If the game left less to chance, perhaps we'd be somewhat more ready to join their ranks. [Issue#149, p.120]

Worms Battlegrounds continues to impress in multiplayer, offering more of the same team-based battles and outrageous weapons. But it's not the most unique or exciting Worms release, and you'd be hard pressed to pick it out of a lineup

Worms Battlegrounds' shot goes wide. Clearly. It never takes the advantage from the power of Xbox One and PS4, and even makes us nostalgic of the old Worms. That would be forgivable if the game had avoided some technical issues in the collisions and the AI. It's still fun when you play with your mates though.

That those thrills are buried beneath so much frustration, however, is utter madness. [Aug 2014, p.94]

Best Worms game since Open Warfare 2 for DS 7 years ago. Online multiplayer is quick and responsive with no lag. Worms is Worms, either you love it or its not for you. This is the best iteration yet with every weapon you could ever want.

Worms Battlegrounds is virtually the same as any other Worms title of the last twenty years with each player taking control of a team of up to five worms and then taking turns to try to kill each other using all manner of crazy weapons. The last team standing wins. “Battlegrounds” includes some welcome additions (easy to access online play, flowing water, the option of using different types of worms) and some unwelcome additions (background graphics that are hard to tell apart from the foreground) but there is nothing that will change people’s mind about the series one way or another. If you’ve enjoyed Worms in the past you’ll enjoy Battlegrounds, if you haven’t you won’t. It’s as simple as that really.

The worms games are always going to be a mixed bag. The controls are always tank like and this is no exception and visually they are average at best. The campaign mode this time around is lackluster but passable. However the online multiplayer works well and is a lot of fun. From making your own clan to battling it out with complete strangers everything works as it should.

So we downloaded it and started a local game. And we both played a lot of worms Armageddon and worldparty. And the every single input is changed, every single button does a completely different thing than in older games. I don’t care if I can change the settings, we were just thinking why did they do this. It’s so unnecessary and it might be a little thing but we stopped playing. It’s also ugly as hell.

Absolutely appallingly bad to the point where I can't be bothered enough to say more. I've never called for a refund before but this takes the cake...
