This is not a metroidvania. As someone who loves the genre and specifically is a huge fan of the 2d Metroid games, playing prime 4 was a huge disappointment. For full disclosure, I have never played prime 2 or 3 and my introduction to the prime games was with the remaster which I was somewhat lukewarm on. However, while playing prime 1, I never thought to myself that it wasn't a metroidvania. If this is how Nintendo intends to design games going forward, then count me out.
Don’t listen to the waaambulance crowd. This is an excellent game and I applaud Nintendo for actually including some modern voice work. Yes there a few rough spots here and there but overall it’s been an incredible experience. It’s not as impactful as the first Prime game was in 2002 but it’s as close as we’re going to get these days. It’s also an amazing showcase for the power of the Switch 2. Hopefully Nintendo learned its lesson this time about not letting any other studio but Retro make these games. No one else does it better. Switch 2 has had one hell of a start to its life! Even if Nintendo did everything they could to ruin it with greed.
Exceptional entry in the Metroid (Prime) series! While not entirely sharing the exact formula as previous games, it stands on the shoulders of it's predecessors and builds on that, adding new innovative gameplay features. What truly stands out is its presentation: exceptional production value, immersive environments, and a soundtrack worthy of the franchise. Metroid is back and I'm loving every minute of it!
OH MY GOD!!!....What is this?...Metroid is my go to games when I want to leave Earth and feel like taking a vacation on some other planet.Metroid games had the power to do it.Even new Metroid like Dread did it and what happened now?....This is NOT metroid, this seems like some modern western game.Cringe characters yapping, awful levels (i hate deserts now)...Nintendo and Sony were born in Japan but will die in California.
Switch 2s best game so far an absolute masterpiece!Ill never trust the biased press or online haters whove been trashing it again. Also Im completely obsessed with the viola sections so bloody cool!
A lot of these reviews are a too hyperbolic. The game isn't a 10/10 masterpiece, but it's still good and far from bad. The visuals and sound are stunning. The gameplay is mostly enjoyable and feels like a Metroid Prime game more or less. The level design is mostly linear and doesn't evoke the same sense of wonder and exploration that Prime 1 has the first time you play it. It feels more like Prime 3 than the first two games. The enemies and combat are pretty boring. Only some of the bosses are actually fun to fight. There are a lot of moments where you have to clear room after room of enemies and it feels like an old FPS. Not really very fun. The story and NPC's are whatever. It's a Metroid game so I don't expect much. They didn't bother me except in the beginning of the game with Myles. Now, let's get to the really bad part of the game. The desert that you explore with the bike is genuinely terrible and extremely boring to play. What's worse is that you have to spend a considerable amount of time there and it always **** the fun out of whatever you are doing. It feels like I am playing Wave Race 64 or some iPhone shovelware game. It's jarringly bad in an otherwise good game and I can't believe Nintendo allowed a game of theirs to ship with such a terrible gameplay component. It's embarrassing. Overall the game is fine, but the moments that make you wonder WTF they were thinking mean I can't rate it higher than a 7/10 despite most of the game being more like a 9/10. Nintendo do better.
Metroid Prime 4 captures the essence of the Prime series. Musically, the game is a delight to the ears. The music has a distinctive style unique to Metroid games, imbued with a certain mystique and a blend of alien sounds that transports you directly into that world. Graphically, the game boasts meticulous detail in its lighting, architecture, and natural features, lending authenticity to the gameplay. I haven't encountered a game before that achieves this same style. The gameplay has kept me entertained throughout. I personally enjoyed the mouse mode in this game. Considering it's a Switch title, it maintains a level of quality unmatched by Nintendo, showcasing the console's potential. The story is captivating and keeps you eager to discover what happens next. For me, this game is perfection.
Metroid Prime is back. I was filled with emotion when playing this game due to the familiarity of the Prime feel I have grown to know and love with the added mystery and discovery of what lies ahead. Each new room I entered filled my heart with joy. A new beautiful and intriguing adventure awaits you.
Reintroduces the Metroid Prime series to a new generation of players without losing its identity and focusing on the theme of memories. Despite the general public's misplaced focus on the trooper characters interactions with Samus or the quality of their dialogue, the game instead tactically uses these characters to set up a new villain, Sylux. who by the end has earned the right to be tracked by the galaxies greatest bounty hunter!
Can’t trust the critics on this one (as usual). Game is fantastic, and everything I wanted as a fan of the series. Haven’t had this much fun with a game in a long time.
Metroid prime 4 is an awesome game ,it hits all my boxes and more , it's my new second favorite from the series . Metroid prime is still my #1 favorite but MP4 is close. The graphics is top tear , music is amazing And I really enjoy the new additions to the Metroid series. If you like exploring this vast world , fast action shooter and a challenge, I highly recommend this game . In my opinion this is the best game so far for switch 2.
This game is incredible, my actual score is **** 10 to help counter the nonsense low scores . The music the atmosphere the visuals.thenoss fights.. I haven't been this excited whileplaying a game in quite awhile. Amazing job retro studio!
It is a wonderful **** it looks beautiful on the Switch-2.I am coming to believe that those who give such bad scores even have the console.Prime 4 Beyond is tremendous JoyaFor lovers of the Prime saga and also for those who do not, it looks spectacular.
Overall great game. Metroid prime 1 is my favorite game of all time, and prime 4 checks all the boxes for me as a prime game. Core gameplay dungeons are great, upgrading and aiming for 100% items is a lot of fun. The NPCs actually enhance the story telling. NPCs are not nearly as annoying as people say in my opinion. Vast amounts of the game are still spent alone. The desert overall is fine, could have added a little more to it, but over all motorcycle is a great addition too! I think overall critic reviews have been a little harsh. Metroid Prime 4 is fantastic!
Underwhelming with odd choices that don't fit the Metroid formula. Plus she holds her had up like Professor X to scan things. The world doesn't feel connected and the combat isn't great. How far we have fallen from Prime 1 and 2.
As a major fan of the series the game exceeded all of my expectations from fantastically smooth gameplay , unmatched art direction Retro studios really outdid themselves, just stopped in awe constantly to take in all the small details of the carefully crafted environments and vistas, the atmosphere is amazing, the orchestral music is phenomenal just wow, the bosses, puzzles and dungeons are exceptional , this is a great return for Metroid to usher in the start of a new story for the franchise for veteran Prime players and new players alike. If you own a Switch 2 this game is a must! Tip scan everything to fully 100% the scan rate/ log to unlock and extended ending, Thank you Retro Studios and bring on Prime 5!
After a long wait of more than 10 years it has been finally worth it having such an amazing experience with the astonishing soundtrack, and its incredible art style.
Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is the triumphant return fans waited over a decade for. Retro Studios delivers a meticulously crafted first-person adventure that blends the atmospheric isolation of the original Prime with modern design sensibilities that elevate the experience without losing its iconic identity. From the opening moments, Beyond pulls you into its world with breathtaking environments — dense bioluminescent jungles, abandoned Chozo ruins, sprawling desert hubs, and some of the most cinematic vistas the series has ever offered. The game runs beautifully on Switch 2, offering crisp visuals, smooth performance, and some of the best lighting effects on any Nintendo platform.Gameplay retains the classic Metroid DNA: scanning, backtracking, solving environmental puzzles, and earning upgrades that meaningfully change how you move and fight. Samus feels powerful yet grounded, and the new mobility options (including the enhanced Grapple Shift and Aeion Dash) make exploration fluid and rewarding.Boss encounters are a standout. Each fight feels handcrafted — aggressive, creative, and visually spectacular. The soundtrack amplifies the tension perfectly, mixing eerie ambience with thunderous orchestral cues during major encounters.Where Beyond truly shines is how it respects the player. The game rarely holds your hand, encouraging you to read the environment, experiment, and discover. Retro understood what made Prime special — the sense of being alone on an alien world — and preserves it with remarkable **** there’s one criticism, it’s that the narrative additions could have been pushed further; some characters and threads feel underdeveloped. But this is a minor blemish on an otherwise phenomenal adventure.Verdict:Metroid Prime 4: Beyond is a masterclass return to form — atmospheric, challenging, visually stunning, and unmistakably Metroid. It’s not just a great comeback; it’s one of the best sci-fi adventures of the generation.
Mainly just trying to counteract the tourists who only found out this game even exists from idiots like Grummz, George Alexopolos, or Sophia Narwitz, and then got the silly idea this game is a Jewish Conspiracy to destroy the West and Japan.
Beautiful game. Wonderful sound design and great music. Boring shooting. horrible NPCs, poor level design, And the game poops the bed in the second half. Even if you like the game all these 10 rated scores are insane.
Incredible music and environments. The desert seems to be everyone’s main beef with this game. I’m indifferent to it. The bike is fun, and definitely an interesting addition to the game. The NPCs add character, and the infamous Myles Mackenzie is not nearly as troublesome as I thought it might be. It reminds me alot of Metroid Prime 3, which I also loved. I highly recommend this game to fans and non-fans.
It was a long wait for this game, and I believe the wait was worth it. The combat is peak Metroid Prime, the music is amazing, the world looks gorgeous. It’s such a fun game to play that’s both nostalgic of the old games but adds awesome new elements. The psychic abilities makes puzzles even more interesting, and Vi-O-La, the bike, is really cool and fun to drive around. I loved also the boss battles and scanning to learn the lore behind the planet. Metroid Prime 4 has been a joy to embark on and my favorite Nintendo release this year.
Please read this before you make assumptions about the game. There are low points in this game especiallywith some npc's and the desert. but its not really that much of the game and the highs of this game more than make up for it. At it's best it is maybe the greatest game of all time. Viola also works surprisingly well for this game and it is a must play
It is a Metroid prime game through and through. Although the desert area is completely unnecessary as well as the NPC’s, but I have developed a soft spot for them and they aren’t that bad. I do personally feel the big gaming outlets blew things out of proportions for likes and I do think some purest ruin the reputation of the new entry, but the gameplay, combat, music, and exploration is peak Metroid and is a acceptable entry in the modern era.
I can only describe this game with two words "PURE METROID". The game has the ADN of all the Metroid games, there is people judging it without even trying it. The desert doesn’t feel like a good addition but it doesn’t bother me, because the game itself it’s really fun to play. Also I’m playing it in the switch 1 and its jaw dropping how good it looks in a console with almost 9 years.
Prepare for beyond, Metroid Prime 4 blew me away. Retro Studios nailed the atmosphere, the exploration, the combat — everything just feels tight and insanely polished since corruption, the world design pulls you in and keeps you wanting to push deeper, and the visuals are some of the best I’ve ever seen enhancing the immersion and keeps you locked in. The soundtrack is easily some of the best hits although short and sweet, when the music hits, it hits good. If you're a fan of the originals and progressed through and beaten all games you'll admire what retro studios has done and the care they've put in from the bosses, the music and even the levels themselves. Try it for yourself and put the hours in. It’s not perfect in the sense of a few late-game backtracking moments that are a bit padded, light character moments of dialogue but none of that changes and a slightly less than amazing dessert. But that's not the main focus point when looking at the whole picture as you play you realize how incredible the overall experience is. The highs massively outweigh the small flaws and how overblown they are. This is Metroid at its peak in the modern era. Easily a 10/10 for me.
A slap in the face to the fans who waited years for this. Super linear and handyholdy. Made me sell my Switch 2 and stop playing video games altogether. Nintendo is clearly dumbing down the franchise to appeal to a much younger audience, and as a result, Metroid has lost its identity. A nightmare from a game design perspective with the NPCs and barren dessert. Simply baffling. Please don't buy this is you're on the fence because low sales will communicate to Nintendo that we deserve better than this. Hopefully it doesn't sell too well because the franchise is doomed if the future games take this direction. I will concede that visually it's impressive but that's all it has going for it. If you want a true Metroid experience, go with Super Metroid and Metroid Prime Remastered. Don't settle for this childish, watered-down sequel. Seriously better ways to spend your time and money.
