Kirby Air Riders is an intimidating game, but really fun once you get into it. The controls can get hectic with everything assigned to one button (except special moves) but everything was easy enough to pick up for me. The amount of machine with their different controls provide very exciting differences in gameplay that I really enjoyed. While Top Ride and Story Mode lack a bit for me, and the online matchmaking is slow, there is so much content in this game that you can ignore them with no difference in my enjoyment.
A solid game. I enjoy city trial the road trip mode due to there replayability. The checklist also provided mini goals which nice. My only con would be that controls are a little awkward when it comes to combat mini games.
What an amazing take on racing games by Sakurai.
This is the closest title to F-Zero I've played in a while.
It's a mix of Mario kart an Smash bros,
Having a blast
the game is not worth 70$. Maybe 40$, maybe. I bought it thinking it would be family fun, I saw the reviews and realized it’s “neat”. Unfortunately my kid opened the package before I could return it. I give it a 5 because it’s extremely overpriced for a game with 3 pretty tracks. It’s basic and minimal in every regard.
Very fun game with so much love put into it A ton of unlockables A good and fun story mode Everything else that isn't unlocked by the checklist can be bought with ingame money (hats machines stuff for your license etc) Online works great and you can play any of the 3 game modes online at any time Amazing customisation with the online market as well (you can buy other people’s creations) No planned extra DLC or content it’s a double edged sword but when you pay for the game you get everything it has to offer Both road trip (storymode) and city trial ties together and it’s really worth fully completing road trip to get everything Really one of the games you should get a switch 2 for alone with Donkey Kong bananza If you want a fun racer worth your money please get this instead of Mario Kart World Also Rick my favourite character he’s adorable Sakurai knocked it out the park again and him and his team deserve all the respect and praise for working on this game
Kirby Air Riders quickly sets itself apart from Mario Kart by delivering a far more technical, fast-paced, combat-focused racing experience. By combining characters and ships—each with distinct stats and special abilities—the game minimizes randomness and emphasizes strategic decision-making. The action is relentlessly fast: hitting opponents grants constant speed boosts, taking damage never stops your movement, and long-lasting light trails help players recover without relying on luck. Beyond its six-player traditional races, modes like the top-down variant and the standout City mode add surprising depth, allowing players to build full loadouts with stats, ships, powers, and dynamic events in an open environment. Kirby Air Riders impresses with its polish, variety, and cohesive design, standing out as a bold, skill-driven alternative in the kart-racing genre.
This game really doesn’t jive with me compared to its past entry. Each game takes way too much time to get use to the mechanics, each battle through City Trials feels way too tedious and boring compared to the first Air Riders, and each mode feels like a one and done thing with its replayability.
Kirby Air Riders is a highly recommended game. Nintendo knew how to make a game just as fun as Smash Bros. and surpass the competition in racing games, like Mario World or Sonic.
The game is super frantic and fast with comfortable gameplay and full content.
Sakurai knew how to take full advantage of their golden child Kirby, turning it into a game that is absolutely worth playing.
This game is great, but the only flaw I found is that it's exclusive to the Nintendo 2.
A very fun and surprising experience. Of course, Sakurai would make this kind of game with a simple concept but a deep gameplay core. I love all the game modes that it offers, my favorite being the road trip since it mixes all the other modes into one, and being also something like an adventure/story mode with a really cool story to be honest. I think artistic wise, this game is amazing. The art style is really beautiful and the graphics are perfect, I think the best looking kirby game ever. And the Soundtrack is just so good, AMAZING. I don't play online much but the little I played was very good quality. Now, as a Sakurai game, he always add the challenges which most of them are fun, some of them are easy to cheat, others are hard but not impossible, so a good variety. My only complaint with these challenges is that some of them are a pain, very specific and sometimes just based on luck which **** because you have to retry the same thing over and over until something happens. Also since these challenges are divided by the game modes, sometimes you do one thing on road trip that doesn't count for it but it does for City trail and then you have to do it again on the other mode instead of just counting that as a challenge completed on both modes. I play mostly single player so to me these challenges are my main game so that's why i give it more importance than to others. But for multiplayers this game is definitely a 10, as long as you get used and enjoy the gameplay and at least one of the modes.
what a good time :) everything just sits perfectly, at the start it can be confusing on how you are supposed to play but when you learn to play and get REALLY fast it’s so fun
HYPE MOMENTS AND AURA AT ITS FINEST. This game is amazing UNTIL the very end of road trip. And I say until because it gets inconsistent with story and just starts adding sick characters but sadly they don't make sense or are explainable in any way. However, the cinematics, the movies, the roguelike type gameplay, the passion built into this, the FAN SERVICE!!, the environments, the modes, the content, other than a small imperfection in the ending of the story mode, it is INCREDIBLE. This genuinely feels like one of the last games Nintendo has put out that just has pure soul into it. I cannot stress enough how well Sakurai did with this, even after not working with Kirby for decades, he manages to surprise the fandom more than any HAL made game. City trial is insanely fun and addictive, its short and nice unlike longer online games, if you want even smaller sessions, look no further than Top Ride with its own items and maps and concept, as it is great fun for a minute or 2 of time. Even the main mode Air Ride is super fun. Adding 9 brand new courses which are all breathtakingly beautiful, and if you think that's too little, they added back the previous 9 maps from the original with updated graphics. They put in so much QOL features that it feels amazing to play. Every aspect of the game has been expanded, with the online especially being made MUCH better than ANY Nintendo game currently. Having a paddock to move around and chill with your friends before a game is amazing and feels good. The online had me worried in the demo, but with my experience it is so responsive and nice. The ONLY thing I would like is to start a paddock with friends and queue up the paddock + fill with online. It is still amazing, everyone needs to try this game. Beautiful, amazing. I can't believe its not Hal!
Never had the chance to play the original. Despite that, I have been loving this game! I haven't played it online, but I have been having a good time with friends and family that have tried it.
After playing the original Air Ride on the GameCube, Air Riders immediately became my most anticipated game of 2025. Picking the game up for the first time, I was taken aback as the mechanics and gameplay felt just as the did originally so many years ago. This genuinely feels like it could have been released a year after the original. With the addition of new content in Road Trip, the new courses and machines, vehicle editor, as well as the staggering 750 achievements, this new addition to the series brings back the classic gameplay long time fans have come to expect, as well as breathes new life into the IP to draw in new players. After completing the checklist and 70 hours of gameplay, this is my game of the year and an awesome dream-come-true sequel that I couldn’t have dreamed of getting.
Kirby air riders is not only an amazing game. It’s the only truly great switch 2 game other than Donkey Kong Bananza. I have been obsessed with the game, meanwhile Mario kart world and sonic crosswords are just collecting dust. This is a very difficult game with a high skill ceiling. But it’s also extremely accessible for young and experienced gamers. Road trip Is the best story mode for any kart racer. Air ride is amazing. But I find the other modes more enchanting. City trial is addictive and even though there’s one map, It’s huge and filled with secrets, nooks, and crannies. But for some reason, I’m in love with top ride, I wish more people played it because although it’s harder at first, I get some of my greatest races top down. The cherry on top is the checklists, which provide unique challenges in every mode that fills the game with content. This is a feature that Mario Kart World is surely lacking. It gives you a sense of purpose in the game no matter which mode you’re enjoying. All and all, get this game for Christmas it’s the best multiplayer in 7 years.
An absolute joy to play. From UI, visuals, gamefeel, moment to moment decision-making and infinite replayability, Kirby Air Riders is currently the best title on the Switch 2 for me. I wouldnt change anything about it.
Kirby Air Riders has earned its spot in between the Top 10 games I have ever played. It's frantic, fun, very technical with a high skill ceiling, competitive and insanely content rich. Features like the Paddock and Machine Market add a lot to the Online. It feels like a complete game that isn't trying to snatch your money, which is almost like a miracle in the times we live in.
Has lots of content. Many accessibility settings. Lots of small side modes like custom machines. The only problem is have with it is very few tracks to pick from for racing and the story mode road trip gets boring very fast.
This game has a total identity crisis. It tries to be a racing game, a party game, and an arena battler — but it doesn’t truly excel at any of them. There are far better options on Switch 2 if you want a focused experience. The only reason it lands at a 7 is because the music and visuals are absolutely carrying it. Without those, this would easily be a 5.
I’ve been waiting 23 years for this game, and despite the odds it actually exists. It’s everything I could have wanted from an Air Ride sequel and then some. If you thought City Trial was chaotic in the first game, take that and add 12 more players to the fray and you have absolute insanity. This is clearly a labor of love and Sakurai definitely still has the chutzpah he’s so well known for. New machines, new legendaries, new stadiums, new racing tracks, full customization… this game has it all. It deserves nothing less than a 10/10
Kirby Air Riders is an absolute fever dream ****, super addictive. While it’s not perfect and I do think it is a little overpriced, I think it’s consistently more fun than Mario Kart World. There aren’t that many courses in Air Ride mode, but the courses that are here are amazing, which are complemented by the satisfying gameplay. There are so many different play styles due to the characters and machines having their own unique attributes, and from my knowledge, it doesn’t allow for some lame meta that Mario Kart games tend to have. I’m a bit mixed on Top Ride; it’s a perfectly fine mode, but it’s just not my thing. City Trial, however, is an absolute blast and this game’s best mode in my opinion. There’s even good single-player content here through Road Trip, and while I don’t necessarily love it, I appreciate that there’s even single-player content to begin with. I had my fun with it, but I don’t think I’ll go for the true ending since I already watched it on YouTube. I’m getting most of my fun with this game through the online multiplayer; I’ll get on, play some Air Ride first, then some City Trial matches afterwards. Overall, I’m having a ton of fun with Air Riders, and I highly recommend it even if the global test didn’t fully entice you. If you like racing games, party games, and Kirby like myself, you’re going to really enjoy this one.
Fun, addictive, fast paced if you want it, or. Cozy in the story mode if that's your preference. There is an absolute ridiculous amount to do in this game and it's super fun with friends and family. The music, cutscenes and sound design are phenomenal. Literally cannot get enough of this game. If you have adhd like me you'll love it
A review for fellow fans. It's More of the Same. After 22 years, it's a welcome return from Sakurai himself, but there are very few fundamental improvements- feeling more like an enhanced port that treads water, and lacking some of the original charm, though also providing new charm. A mixed bag, it is the best experience, despite the shortfalls (the biggest crux of which is that Top Ride is now crap, and the menu transitions are marred by load times for almost every single screen that add up horrendously quickly). It has tonnes of things to do; new features, most of the old game, many details to soak in, and more scope than the original. I begrudgingly bought a Switch 2 knowing this game was on the way, and definitely don't regret it, as a mixed fan of the 2003 classic. A shame the online gameplay is held to ransom via the subscription fee, but you can still get just as much fun with 1-15 extra COM players alone in City Trial, or combined with split-screen friends. No split-screen online function either, however. Any new music is sadly bland and forgettable (standard for AAA composers these days, even Kirby), but a lot of the older stuff is thrown into the mix which helps make up for it, I suppose. It's also a bit easier, at least when it comes to all the challenges, but the chaotic fun at its core is enough to justify a good time. For all my criticisms, I still enjoyed almost every minute of it (barring Top Ride), even having played the original again just last year.
Nah nah someone did this dirty on reviews. City Trial is so unbelievably good and addicting. Peak party arcade gaming. This is as close to 1998-2000 gaming you can get without a time macine
Absolutely excellent UI, customisation, music, map design... I could go on. Only problem is not being able to play online split screen. There's also a small player base but I'm hoping that increases with time.
Incredible sequel. So much love and attention to detail was poured into this game. I expected it to be all City Trial for me, but I’ve been enjoying every mode. Also the most online gaming I’ve done on a Nintendo console since Mario Kart DS.
Crazy chaotic mayhem. Pure fun on a stick. I love this game. Can take a minute to get to grips with the controls but when you do… oh boy this is a really fun game.
Sakurai has done it again. He has created a racing game so simple yet so addicting I cant help but praise it as the best cart racer in years since at least mk8dx. I might even go as far as saying its the best since mkds.
This GameCube classic has been reborn with even more improvements! The speed and gimmicks have been improved while maintaining the original controls, making it irresistible! If you have a Switch 2, this is one game you should buy.
Imagine if Mario kart, Mario party, and super smash Bros had a baby that would be this game. Definitely a chaotic casual game at its **** way I look at it is this game is like your firstglass of beer, it’s weird at first and takes a little getting used to, but you grow to actually love it a lot more than you thought initially. You really have to kind of go with the flow, kill everything in your way, and work on how you feel best when turning and moving around the course without losing speed.City trial is a really cool unique game mode that has a lot of variety and if you don’t take yourself too seriously it is a lot of fun. There is a ranked feature in a quick match for online so you can have that more serious tone or totally nonchalant. The story was awesome. New game plus is really cool. The only thing I really am still getting to appreciate is the top down races but they still are fun. So many characters and they all have unique abilities the stars/machines all have unique characteristics to them that make them all play very differently, which gives you a lot more choice. The only thing possibly holding it back from a 10 out of 10 is that itsort of recycles super smash Bros content in terms of UI and sound effects but with that doesn’t ruin it it just doesn’t make it fully unique. Also, the online has some room for improvement, but it’s really good still.
Great game, however the online mode for normal races is absolutely awful. After every race you have to search a new lobby, which in my experience takes between 1-1.5 minutes .on average. Considering most races only take like 2 minutes, half the time you're literally searching for new opponents. Its awful. For City Trial its okay, since those games take like 6 minutes, but this problem makes online races kinda unplayable for me. I hope they fix it.
