Some games emphasize good writing over gameplay. Turnip Boy doesn't have any gameplay, so it really could have used some good writing.

Some of the filler scenes and dialogue is so good that it almost makes you forget how dull and repetitive every single part of this game truly is.

First, I skipped the needless filler gameplay. Then I skipped the needless filler dialogue. Skipping the the entire game was a natural next step.

Look, I wanted to like Loop Hero. Heck, I wanted to love it. But Loop Hero gets in its own way with a few too many mechanics that never deepen and an overall grind-heavy design that punishes fun playstyles. There's something really brilliant in here. I know because I trudged through a heck of a lot of very-not-brilliant stuff to get to it.

What if Undertale was neither clever nor fun? Everhood, that's what. I mean, come on.

The parts of Death's Door that are cool and worthwhile outweigh the parts that are boring, clunky, and not at all worth the while. But they're still there.

Chicory achieves greatness far beyond what other games lack the ambition to even attempt. It's not just better than almost every other game out there; it's better than those games were even trying to be.

Sometimes you just gotta post a positive review to counterbalance a review so dumb it makes you wonder if @closedsocket was not just dropped on his head as a baby, but dropped several times from several angles.

I'll say this in defense of The Artful Escape: it almost features a complete story! Wow, they got like 60% of the way through a whole character arc before they just gave up and ended the game! On the other hand, there is about 0% **** here.

It's hard to overstate just how underwhelming Eastward truly is. If you've never read a story, seen pixel art, or played a video game, maybe there is something in here for you. If not, prepare to be disappointed.

Unsighted does a few things fine and a lot of things poorly. The combat and writing are its strongest points, and both are pretty weak. The level design and visual design are the biggest culprits. The levels don't 'read' very well and do little to reward exploration; there is a lack of visual unity and overall consistency that makes things as fundamental as navigation and combat clunky and unrewarding. It's been compared pretty readily to Hyper Light Drifer, which does Unsighted no favors at all. HLD told a solid story with no dialogue where Unsighted butchers a story with endless text. HLD had strong, smooth gameplay. Unsighted simply does not. It's got a lot of different systems and ideas! But it does absolutely none of them justice.
