Dark humor is all this movie has going for it, but the excessive violence and gore push it from amusing to repulsive.

Not without it's flaws, Halloween is what most horror films would like to be, but are unable to deliver. From the haunting soundtrack that captures dreadful fear to the stealth and patience of the antagonist, as well as the humanity and vunerability of the protagonist, the viewer is pulled in to Mr. Carpenter's masterful work.

Expanding the back story of Michael Myers is a bad idea. The mysterious, evil "shape" should be exactly that! Normal family, no motive, no blood bond between him and Laurie...none of that was ever needed, and all it has ever done is make the character relatable NOT SCARY. Zombie's signature depravity, excessive violence and lack of imagination does not impress.
