There Will Be Blood8

Extremely gripping. A character study that you can't help but keep invested in, even though you know it will end badly. Although honestly the score was a bit jarring at times and I say this as a huge Radiohead fan. I liked it but I prefer it when scores are a bit more subdued and support the film, not take attention away from it. Also, not related but the user who said it's a "very male" film can **** my nonexistent ****. Why do we have to bring gender politics into this? If you didn't like it it's not because you're female but because you have a personal preference. Smh. But yeah, great film!

Inside Llewyn Davis9

I'm a **** for the 60s folk scene, and I actually heard the (btw excellent) soundtrack before I watched the film. Llewyn's character was very relatable, and there was a perfect balance between humour and the otherwise kinda depressing story. As expected, the Coen brothers did a great job and this is probably my second favourite of theirs behing TBL

Very nice. That's all I can say. I could relate to it a lot cos I have a difficult relationship with my mum, and I'm leaving for university but, just because something is relatable doesn't mean it's perfect. Like it's a solid 8 but not really best picture material. I like Gilmore Girls but that doesn't mean it's the best show of all time, cos it's not. But they're both heartwarming and funny and cute. And I feel like it resonated with my mum a lot cos she's much nicer to me lately so... yeah. Thanks Greta.

I initially was drawn to this movie because it had my favourite trope: young girl who finds herself in a strange, new world; it's a cliche at this point. But this film is so much more than that. It **** you in with a relatable main character and an interesting premise, keeps you entertained with strange and amazing creatures, and makes you think about life, change and growing up. The animation is nothing like I've seen before as a Westerner- you can feel all the painstakingly hard work that must have gone into every frame to make each one simply breathtaking. And the story just flows so dreamlike and effortless. TLDR: it's just so well done, I can't NOT give it a 10. The one thing I must say is that it isn't really for children below 8/10 cos there are some scary sequences.

In my top 5 movies of all time. It's like a witch's brew of wonderful monsters, a child's magical realism, hard-hitting historical drama and a piece of del Toro's soul (definitely in there- all my favourite films are like that).

Well made, but it didn't really do much for me. The only scene that got some emotion out of me was when Rollergirl and Julianne Moore's character are high together; and the ending kind of ruined the whole film. That being said, I loved the use of music- much better than the harsh cuts of Tarantino imo.
