In season 3 the Underwoods are going through recycled motions from the first two seasons, and at a slower pace. The new characters and new settings are window dressing at best. Season 2 had flaws but this season was the beginning of the end

At this stage in the show, frank has been president for too long. What i mean by that is, the story has become one where instead of the underwoods rising to power through cunning, it's one where they stay in power mostly due to inertia and a little bit of cunning that isn't nearly as intriguing as in the earlier seasons. These problems do get a lot more noticeably worse in season 5 but for me they were quite bad enough in season 4 that i did not enjoy watching it. The Barnes storyline peaked long ago and is nigh unwatchable. Stamper's plotline is dull. Only the campaign offers any intrigue and even that feels like a major downgrade.

My patience was wearing thin by the end of season 4, but season 5 made me lose what little remained. It's just the underwoods doing stupid crimes and getting in stupid fights on loop. The shock value of their criminality has long since worn off and the incompetence of their opposition is more painfully annoying with each episode.

The main appeal of this show was watching the main character stare at the screen and talk like a sociopath, and that element has aged like milk in light of who played him.

The show consists of Sherlock Holmes mostly being rude to people and occasionally revealing he's figured something out with his magical powers. To keep viewers watching, the show relies on plot twists to build anticipation of something great, but never delivers.
