Final Fantasy II Pixel Remaster9

I enjoyed this game a lot. The problem with the game is that it's real easy to break the game. If you battle your own party a lot you can overdevelop stats with for example way to much health points. I've seen plays with a party that have hp of 3000+, this makes the game to easy and a drag to play. My party had one character around 2000hp and the rest way below that at the final boss. This gave me a great challenge. I finished the game after beating FF1 and I love it! It's way better than FF1 imo. The story is better. I like that the characters come and leave. It keeps your brain sharp, you have to adjust gameplay and not slumber your play with a the same group of hero's the whole game. The leveling system is way different and much more fun, you can mold your characters the way you like them to play, much more freedome. I have tried so much different ways to battle in this game than in any other FF game I have played so far (ok I have only played FF1, 2, 4 and 6 so maybe 3 and 5 will change that). I have used magic way more than just auto battle normal attacks like I have done with all the other versions. It feel less grindy and I do not hate the grind at all in RPG's. Ok the story is not as good as FF4 and 6 but it's way better than 1 but the gameplay is so much fun. One negative point are the dungeon's. They are to predictable. Just walk to the doors farthest away to progress and there are a lot of empty room, boring! All in all I think the pixel remaster version is a excelent game, had a good time with it. I rate it 8,5/10.

So many user ratings with a 10 is just sad. I know a lot of fans are upset with the 80 score from critic reviews and demand a higher score for the game they have waited for almost 20 years. That's a long time and a lot are afraid that a bad score and bad sales will kill the Prime series in the end, that's a big motive for all these high user reviews. Don't fall for it because the game has got some serious problems. My honest opinion of the game, as a big Prime fan, is that I understand all the fans. I wanted a great Prime 4 game, but we did not get what we as fan deserved after the long wait. It feels like this game was made by different developers. The major part of the game is great, it's polished like you would expect from Retro Studio's. But other parts are really bad. The only way I can explain it is that development time was to short to polish the whole game even though development started in 2017 and then again in 2021. It feels like Nintendo had enough of this nightmarish development cycle and published the game before it sufficed to Nintendo golden standard. The desert is not on the high level as other parts in the game and you spent a lot of time in this place that's just not fun to play. The animation of viola is terrible in some movements. This feels like a rush job and I wonder why Retro has put this in the game. Would this be to camouflage the length of the game? A 15 hour total game but how many hours are spent by traveling in the hub world or the in between empty corridors that connect the hub with all the levels. If you subtract this time what quality time will remain? The game needed more quality content and that's not cheap to make, to create a new part of the world or an empty desert that just did not get the attention other parts got. Last but not least are the NPC's and the babysitting mission's in the game and they don't bring me a lot of joy. It feels as if Samus takes a backseat in her own game and the NPC's are there to shine. For me the total experience was disappointing and that hurts a lot, I wanted this game to be great but it's not. I think 80 overal from the critics is generous for the game Nintendo delivered. It just needed 1 or 2 more years to get it to the level Metroid Prime deserves, Retro Studio's deserved and we fans deserved.
