Mission: Impossible – Fallout3
Jul 27, 2018
Simple plot with some uninteresting twists and a bad villain who is every bit as uninteresting. Half way into the movie, you can see where it's going and you don't care much since you know how it's going to end. Tom Cruise and company look tired at times, and everything, including the dialogue and action sequences are predictable and look like they have been drawn from a cheap script. Another commercial flick just designed to make money. Nothing more.

What is so fascinating about this story is the interesting twist it brings about success. And how elusive and strange the goddess of fortune really is.
Ray Kroc may listen all he wants about "persist-ency and determination" but in the end it's all luck, more luck and a lot of unethical behavior.
A must see for all those "experts" in the science of success. And the countless books they write on the subject.

Some have compared this with "Unbreakable". It's nothing like it. That one was a sleeper by comparison.
What makes it so special is that the whole story is solidly based on actual science.
And doesn't label people who suffers from this mental "disorder" as just freaks or weirdos. Or the usual cliches.
It goes way beyond that. Good performances from all actors, terrific story. What more could you ask ?
It left a deep impression on me. It's one of those movies that you remember for a long time. And makes you wonder. What is the human mind capable of ?

Terrible plot. Astronauts aboard ISS violate any imaginable protocol in dealing with an alien life form. These guys are supposed to be smart ( many of them are scientists ) but here they seem to be ****. One of them is studying the life form with his rubber gloves !!!.
The rest of the movie follows the same pattern. Wow !
There is a chilling aspect to this. As lousy as it all seems, this could actually happen somewhere in the future.

The first 5 minutes start with a lot of dialogue. You say, OK it will get better. Sadly, it never does. It never changes. Dialogue after dialogue after dialogue. Good actors get lost in it. By the end, you scratch your head. What was this movie all about ? What did it try to tell us ? How come people as smart as these directors and writers can get it so wrong ? To me, it's a mystery.

How many times do we have to hear the same story over and over, Sylvester ? I was in high-school back in '77 when Rocky came out. It was a good movie. Ever since then, what ? Even those Rambo movies and Get Carter were more entertaining than this.

A masterpiece. Cinematography which I have not seen in any movie in years. Haunting soundtrack. The ending is somewhat strange and disappointing, but then, who am I to criticize ?. A movie which will be studied in film schools for years and from which many aspiring moviemakers can learn from. It stays with you for a while and then some. Bravo !!!

The Hateful Eight1

One of the worst movies I've seen in years. Tarantino thinks that dialogue, dirty language and good actors are a substitute for a good plot, story, cinematography, etc. He got away with that in some of his previous creations. Not this time. An endless bore. Absolutely awful.

I have to agree with "half58". What's with the endless quick cuts ? How is that suppose to help telling the story ? Flash, flash, flash most of the time. The actors do what they can but it's a lost cause. Take the other investigative movie, Spotlight. What a different style. It goes to show how unnecessary and pointless this razzle dazzle, shaky camera shoot style is. You see it on TV most of the time and is one of the reasons I don't watch TV that much these days. Good story, terrible storytelling.
