Good concept and an interesting premise but the characters are very one-dimensional and lack any real development. Many plotlines are not fleshed out and the audience is left to guess/fill in the blanks themselves. It feels like this movie had a lot of potential to be a sleeper hit but sadly it will never wake.

The humour of this film is the only redeeming quality which did make me laugh out loud on multiple occasions. However, that is about where my compliments end. The feminist themes of the film are about as subtle as lemon juice in a papercut and fail to make a meaningful impact or leave a lasting impression to be pondered over. The lack of vilification Bella Baxter receives for her adventurous sexuality may be groundbreaking if you're over 40 but is met with a shrug and a 'so what' from a younger audience. I do like the imagery and performance overall, I just struggle to get on board with the story as a whole. Overall I would not recommend this film but do go and see it if you think women making their own choices in life is a novel idea.

I hate giving 7s as I feel like it's a fence-sitting score where you can't decide if it's a good or a bad movie but X straddles the line. There are many things this movie does well, for example, it flawlessly executes its psychological horror aspect (my girlfriend and I had to watch an episode of Friends afterwards to calm down). However, the movie has trouble with pacing, which I think was sluggish without actually building much tension. to give it the benefit of the doubt it could be that too much was revealed in the trailer and I was constantly waiting for the action to get going leading to me feeling as though the movie was dragging. Overall I do think it does a decent job of being a disturbing psycho-horror and I would recommend it to fans of slow-burning, dred-fueled slashers

Thoroughly enjoyable and downright hilarious in parts. I understand the criticisms that the family arc may distract from the focus of the movie however, I found the family dynamic (particularly the Monk's relationship with Cliff) endearing and grounding.

Thoroughly enjoyable. This is a movie that NEEDS to be seen on the big screen though as I feel your home TV won't do it justice. I like Timothee Chalamet's performance, I felt he captured the role of Paul perfectly and had enough gravitas to make a character that could easily come across as whiney or irritating into a believable messianic figure. If you even somewhat enjoyed the first film or maybe even felt the first part was a little slow you have to give part two a chance. EVERYTHING happens in part two as it is the second half of book one. As you can imagine, the first part of the book deals with world-building, establishing characters and setting the stakes. Part two is pretty much constant payoff for nearly 3 hours. Highly recommend for fans of sci-fi, action and just those who like a good story!
