Silent Hill 2 (2001)

I've enjoyed all Silent Hills to a degree. This is the one I enjoyed the less. As usual, because this is an old era game I will not discuss graphics. Gameplay is as good as any silent hill out there, except it is too easy... I never got scared of dying... yeap, not once (I always set games to maximum difficulty from the start to get the full experience) Story is good, but not amazing. Also, it unfolds too late so you get the feeling of an "outstretched story". Also the game does little effort to inmerse you in silent hill... a thing that, done properly, it really gets your "what da **** is happening... I need more" mojo going, you know? After all Silent Hill is what horror games should be more about: atmosphere, fear factor, twisted psyques, suspense, mysteries. SH2 fails at creating suspense, the atmosphere is strong at first but loses intensity fast, there are no jump scares to trigger fear, but given there is no suspense you wouldn't jump even if there were some. The "crazyness" is well described of course... it's silent hill... even by mistake they would do it right anyway. Characters are bland as fu**, it's hard to relate with anyone there... from the bad guys to the good guys to anyone... I mean, to know what actually happens in James head is interesting, but the character himself is not... the secondary characters are totally whimsical and also seem to wander around silent hill almost unscathed, which, in my case, increases my disbilief and makes SH just a lonely town insted of hell's gate. Oh, and monster design. Most monsters were ugly, yes, but not scary ugly, but "weird" ugly, the only exception being of course Pyramid Head... Without pyramid head the game would go as down as 4 maybe... A mediocre SH in my opinion, but still a good horror game. You can never fail with SH

For a game released in march 2000!!! yes 2-0-0-0 (it means it was DEVELOPED IN 1999!) this game is amazing... really... handsdown amazing... try to compare it to the competition up to that date... you simply can't... but it was linear and simple and that makes it a 9/10. Please disregard infants who can't elaborate a contextual, logical review like CarcerC or Pandarve... seriously guys... pre 2000 NOTHING was this hot

First off, thank you Klei Entertainment and crew, your game is a solid 2-D stealth game with polished mechanics and good enough rpg elements to keep collectors interested for a while. Now, because of all the nonesical hate this game gets I feel compelled to start by disregarding the majority of the 0-4 reviews as childish, at best. Good: * Art. Very nice backgrounds and character design. * Stealth killing mechanics. Nice, quick, simple, but satisfactory, and variable. * Pace. You start slow and build up fast enough to not feel overwhelmed by the game but also find it challenging in some parts. * Upgradeables. All of them are useful and not cosmetic, like some games out there with redundant or totally unnecesary upgrades. * Nice puzzles. Just that, not too hard, not too easy. * Creative. The concept itself could be said has been done before, but if you scratch the surface you will see what I'm talking about. * Interactive. The ninja feels sweet and pro almost all the time... unless you're a hopeless noob, of course, if so... you will die a lot of times (yes, I'm talking about you meta user reviewers stating this game is about trial and error... my god you're pathetic gamers... not once I had to do that!) Bad: * Short. VERY short. * Lacky advertising. This game it's not just about being invisible, the game itself kinda got lost in nothingness. * Nothing THAT new. It's a stealth game... all stealth games end up being VERY similar between them. * Too many moves for so few buttons. You've got like 4 active buttons, beside de d-pad, but the ninja interacts with almost everything making it hard to manuever with absolute precision in tight spaces.

5/10 Mainly because it's too simple for a Devil may cry game. When one uses the name of a popular franchise, one should also respect it. This game fails to deliver a Devil may cry experience to offer a more casual friendly Dmc while neglecting the fans that got it's back in the first place. So here is to summarize: Good: *Newbie Friendly. If you're new to this genre, don't worry, this game offers so little resistence you will find yourself making your way to the end of it, one way or another. You'll die, of course, but it's no Dark Souls or Dmc4. * Great Level Design. When you pass on the other world you'll know about what I'm talking about! * Great Story. Another good point it's the whole issue of how gullible people can be and how easy it's for the media to control us. Check it out! * Great graphics. Up to date and very nice to watch * Semi- free exploration. You will feel less claustrophobic than in most old school Dmc games. Bad: * Underdeveloped Dmc Battle System. They took Dmc4's 4 core system and reduce it's potential to the minimum. No jump cancel, no fighting styles, no versatilty... nothing. Just visuals. In casuals slang would be "so fly!", but in normal to hardcore gamer slang it's more like "...bland... I'd rather go GOW if I wanted simple and brutal". * Easy! even on harder difficulties. With the bland battle sys came the need for small challenges, compensated with oversized giants to feel some sort of epicness in every win. Here you have big pushovers who are so dumb and easy to kill you practically win by just smashing the crap out of your controller. It's not only that GOW does it better, it's that for a Dmc CLAIMING to be part of the franchise it's just borderline mediocre. *Unlikeable characters. From the **** Dante, to the boring Kat, to the annoying Phineas, to the wimp/cowardice Vergil... none of them are the shadow of the stool any of the characters in the old series could poop. Fact. So as you see, it's not that the game is bad. By itself it's easily a 7/10... the point is that as Devil may cry game DmC fails misserably to deliver the experience promised by a game that uses the shadow of a big franchise to fart in the mouth of all the fans that support that franchise in the first place.

Bad: *Repetition of bosses and levels. *"Sandbox" syndrome. "Unforgiving with casuals. And even with all it's flaws IT'S STILL A 10/10... why don't you try comparing this review with the one I did on DmC? There is no point in doing it, that's why! This is even sicker than the standard edition... pity they didn't listen the community in regards needing more missions with different designs... the positive reviews on this game would skyrocket...

I'm gonna paraphrase what our buddy "icy -something-" down on the comment section said: "Overall its a decent game. For the casual moba players, as well as new-to-moba players this is definitely a great game for you." This! It's such a simple game, any hardcore MOBA player will hate it, but casuals will love it, no doubt. Plus it has all the bliz lore which makes it awesome! Being a "semi"-hardcore gamer myself, I find it waaay too simple to even count as a MOBA... it's more like a Tablet game with kick ass graphics

Absolute must try game if your into tactical rpg games. This is the darker, better overall version of Divinity Original Sin. I see a lot of misplaced nostalgia actually in both of the games, and putting overdramatic feelings aside, both games are fantastic. The only issue here is people tend to favor Divinity because it took advantage of timing, for it was released before pillars of eternity (aka baldurs gate 3) and got to the gamers before, but in comparison it's lacking depth. Why I'm mentioning Divinity? they're very similar, yet they have substantial differences, but for the purpose of comparison, here it goes: Pillars of eternity vs Divinity: OS: Graphics: DOS PoE: 9/10, DOS 10/10. They're similar and both are isometric looking, and although the art itself is inferior in Divinity, the world seems more interactive than Pillars, hence, this one goes to Divinity. Sound: Draw You'll feel very inmersed in combat/adventure with both of them which is fricking important for any decent gamer out there! Story: PoE PoE (8/10), DOS (5/10). This is where Divinity takes a MAYOR hit in the nuts. You get a linear experience through the game, with a couple of boring missions/side quests (with the "do them in perfect order or you will get punished" mechanic), with boring characters and dull storytelling. At least it's not dumb, but it's very "basic", basically :). PoE is totally interesting and storytelling is wonderful, but the only real interactions you'll have will be with your preset partners (more on that later), in the end it also suffers from some characterisation to make it more vivid. Rpg elements: PoE PoE (10/10), DOS (9/10) Very close to each other. The thing is that PoE gets creative in the way you get experience, while DOS gets stingy with exp to make you suffer more every battle, which in the ends slows down gameplay. In terms of character customization both are very deep, but once again PoE takes it further because of how many different characteristics and combinations are posible. Combat: DOS PoE (7/10) DOS (9/10) PoE is good, but magic is way to basic to even count. It all goes down to cutting, blunting and piercing. Magics cost way too much to be enjoyable. DOS not only makes magic users powerful (they actually are overpowered, that's why it get's a 9... balance, people!) but also makes environment critical. From a tactical point, it's refreshing to see your mage not only putting a zombie on fire, but litting 30 mts around it on flames from a poison cloud explosion! talk about special effects! but is not only eye candy, it can seriously turn the battle one side or the other. Definitely a worthy mechanic to keep for the future, game designers! Adventure: PoE PoE (9/10) , DOS (5/10) Interaction, exploring, sneaking, and triggered events are overall better done in PoE. You will feel excited while exploring a new area and also thrilled with excitement, while in DOS you will be desperate to finish it or get in a fight soon to avoid dying of the boring monotony. Interfase: PoE PoE (7/10), DOS (5/10). More polished basically, also everything is easier to understand. You can check the monsters you have slain in your enciclopedia to develop better strategies next time you face them... you even have your own notepad for personal notes. DOS is very lacky in this department. *Items: DOS POE (5/10), DOS (7/10), Both are waaay to simple, but POE is just lazy. Fine, exceptional and elite (or somethingl like that) and some elemental properties and another minuscule crap... and that's it?! wtf?!. At least in DOS you have some variety... but just some... not that much to be noteworthy (at least not in comparison to dragon age and full plated dragon armors and that sort of badass gear we ALL want in our team) In the end it goes like: awesome fights, and more eye candy effects, plus better loot... go DOS very good (not awesome) fights, darker deeper story, adventure thrill, hardcore rpg gaming, ... go POE. To me POE wins actually, but it's your call. Hope it helps... phew, that was a lot!

To the date of this review, no 3D fighting game measures up to dbz: bt 3. Characters: Almost all relevant figthers in the whole saga, including gt, are here. So pick the one that fits your liking. Story: A quick, shallow version of the series. What's the point of wanting to wath the anime in a game? GO WATCH IT ON THE TV if you want the story! At least it stays true to the story as a whole. It also features some relevant sagas that are not extrictly canon (like Broly) Design: Flawless. Both the art and 3D models are up to date. Combat: The absolute best in 3D fighting to the date. Fast paced. Precise. Variable. Exciting. Although casuals are also capable of putting the easier combos up for a deluded feel of grandeur, it's only after you expend both hours in training and hours beating your friends that you become as good as in the real anime, letting you relive and even improve the best combats in the anime. You felt frieza and goku talked too much (and they did). Screw that! Get your friend to pro Frieza and fight him in a volcanic Namek. You will feel not only as goku on an about to explode Namek, you will feel a stronger rush from the fight itself than in all those 20'ish chapters all together. Overall: 9. It's not perfect, and without a solid group of harcore gamers it gets old fast for single player is not as fun. but... Given all the crap there is out there in 3D fighting games (say... budokai!), my score is: a perfect 10!

In short: A very overrated game. *Lack of new characters (same copy pasted characters from older games as in WE ARE LAZY/CHEAP) *Unrelated plot to the anime/manga *Oversimplistic battle system, as with all other ultimate ninja storm games, in ns3 it gets even more basic (3 combos in ground, 1 in air, 1 throw, 1 special attack, 1 super attack... the end) *Too heavy reliance on video sequences. *Little to no challenge at all or any feel of achievement. *Specially designed for casuals and/or hardcore fans of the franchise, that contradictorily know little to nothing of the anime/manga they love so much.

I recommend totally disregarding reviews like the one Andre00x did. I consider reviews should be made to give others who haven't play the game an idea of what their getting. A review is not a random emotional outlet. So, here is a "better" review, spoiler free of course: Story: If you enjoy time travelling paradoxes, anime like characterization and multiple povs on the same plot, you will enjoy the story. I did at least. Art/world design: Characters are 2d anime looking, in other words, hand drawn. But they have very solid art, very aesthetically pleasing, and also very well made animations and interactions. The art is solid IF you're into that kind of thing. I am, as you may have guessed already. The world art is completely CGI, animated and very vivid, so you will never feel the world around you is static or dead. It gives more realism to everything for they are well developed and have lots of details on them. Sound: Solid. There is not much to it. There will be songs you will like more than others, but every theme feels exactly right for the ocassion and emotions they should make you feel. You feel rush when needed, blue when it's supposed to be saddening, etc. Sound effects are well synched and sound awesome. Voice acting is very solid for english and japanese. Finally and most importantly: THE GAMEPLAY!!! THIS is where all blazblue games annihilate all other fighting games: Complexity and variation. If you have found yourself loving repetitive games where one combo is used over and over again as you expect eagerly to find an opening in your adversary's defense, only because of bad judgement more than abusing strengths and weakness on both him and you, well you better AVOID THIS GAME. This game is about training to become good, and then training more to become very good... and then fighting with other very good players to become really good. Initially YOU WILL **** at this game! It is impossible to not **** at blazblue at first. I know it will seem like your character is lame at first, but the one being lame is you and that is where the actual fun of the game is. You WILL get better with time and you will start to understand there is no "bread and butter" combo in blazblue, there is no good 1-2-3 for winning, there actually too many combos, openers, finishers, links between, grab combos, special combos, normal canceling, special canceling, guard breaks, etc, etc., and ALL of them are equally useful IF you know WHEN and HOW to use them. You actually need to know your character pretty deeply to control him/her/it well. Also, you will need to at least understand the strenghts and weaknesses of ALL other characters to actually exploit/protect yours. When you get a real understanding of the game... oh, man! I promise you, it will be the most diverse and developed fighting system you'll find to date! To summarize: Anime looking, good (sometimes kinda childish) story, awesome sound and art, amazing battle system. What is not to like? simple: If you don't like "hard" fighting games or you don't like anime art, this is not for you... but as a fighting game, i't remains flawless from Guilty Gear, it's soul father. Unbalanced, is hadouken through all enemies and winning entire games with only zoning (Street fighter reference). Unbalanced is being able to one combo kill almost anyone with X factor (MvC3 reference). One may argument Mortal Kombat/Unjustice/Naruto are very well balanced, but have they really developed battle system with well thought combos as Blazblue or are they more about smashing the living crap of the controller at the "right" time? Think about it.
