I was recommended to play it since I loved Undertale, but quickly found it wasn’t much like Undertale. It plays more like an escape the room game, which I personally don’t like doing in video games. I found my stupid brain frustrated really quickly and gave up on the game after 30 minutes, which is too bad since I really wanted to enjoy it.

Riven: The Sequel to Myst9
May 13, 2021
Play it with a friend. My brother and I did this during quarantine last year without a guide. It was absolutely nuts. We had limited virtual work, were stuck in the same house together, and had the most difficult puzzle video game before us. We had sheets of paper, OneDrive folders of pictures and conspiracies, and spent all day decoding numbers and fire marble coordinates. It was the perfect time to play this game with the pandemic among us. That being said, I definitely wouldn't have enjoyed this as much had I not been playing with someone else. I don't think I would have been able to do it myself without a guide. I believe the creators of this and Myst said that people enjoyed Myst more during playtests because they could bounce ideas off each other. This also applies to Riven and frankly, I think is essential. It's also the same reason I can only give the game a 9 out of 10. Everything is so good about it, but I'm sure I wouldn't feel that way if I did it all by myself.

This is where my experience with Myst started, so it's hard for me to say I didn't have a great time. I can't compare it to other versions because I've never played them (other than briefly trying the original afterwards). The core game is there and it's accessible to a modern audience. That being said, there are some reasons I didn't give this a 10: - The menu UI is bleh. You also can't access it at all in the tram sequence. - Your movement speed is always so damn slow, even after adjusting settings and using sprint. - Lack of control configurations - The ending is confusing because nothing happens when you see the lovely picture of Riven. - The audio mixing in the original ending is horrendous. You need subtitles to know what is being said. - The puzzles that are illogical/non-intuitive seem to have the problem magnified compared to the original. Things that you can interact with are even less obvious as everything blends together. Otherwise, this game started my love for the series and plan to finish each game on my PC.

Horrible controls, framerate, sound mixing, and gameplay make it feel like you're playing an unfinished game rushed to release.

Half-Life: Opposing Force4
Jun 26, 2020
I only recently learned it wasn’t made by Valve, yet it makes so much sense. This and Blue Shift are the weakest entries in the Half Life series, ones I haven’t been able to play through more than once. You could argue my opinion stems from the idea that I’m posting this review in 2020, but the last time I touched this game was nearly 10 years ago, when I just finished Half Life and thought that was amazing. If I’m remembering correctly, this and Blue Shift are monotonous. They expand upon the GoldSource sandbox with hollow additions that never saw the light of day again in anything other than mods that were far more successful and entertaining.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent7

Like many horror games, it starts off great, creating a great, scary atmosphere, with interesting gameplay and story, but by the end, you're exhausted. The puzzles become frustrating and uninteresting, and the scariness is quickly lost when you realize death is completely inconsequential, similar to Bioshock. Its narrative isn't the strongest, but the story is strong enough to keep you interested. However, what your character physically does in the ending of the game is ridiculous and anticlimactic. While a lot of this game is fun, it ultimately left me with a sour taste in my mouth.

A worthy sequel to the original, expanding upon it both in gameplay and story. It also features a multiplayer component for those who wanted to see multiplayer. This is not only one of the best puzzle games, it's one of best video games ever, I'll do my best to list why. Pros: - Great storyline - Smooth gameplay and improves upon the original greatly - The music, particularly at the end, is awesome - Puzzles have a great amount of variety, making each level build upon what you learned from previous ones, and each piece of variety is interesting and fun - Puzzles are challenging, yet not too difficult - Voice acting is awesome - Characters are awesome, in depth, and dynamic - Short loading times - Good graphics, not amazing, but definitely good - Plenty of sarcasm in GLaDOS's dialogue Cons: - Dissimilar to the original game, its humor is rather shoved in your face, rather than offered as background commentary, making it feel rather forced. - Replay value is rather low, unless you're interested in completing challenges, there isn't a huge reason to go back and complete the same puzzles again. With so few cons, it is easy to say this is one of the best games I've ever played

Not even worth considering. Aiming is a nightmare, the once beautiful graphics are no longer present, and the original clunkiness of combat is replaced with the inability to use combat effectively at all. Every good part of this game is destroyed in this version of the game and all that remains is a skeleton of what you wish you were playing. Read my review on the Xbox 360 page to see more details.

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition9

Put simply: This is the way Skyrim should have been released back in 2011, for consoles, at least. The loading screens aren't horrendously long, a lot of the game-breaking bugs have been squished, all DLC is available, and you can install mods at your pleasure.
