Super Mutant Alien Assault9

I adore this game. It's much better if you think of it as a single screen arcade game instead of a roguelike. The animation and effects are shockingly good for such a simple game, but the hook really comes from how frantic combat is.
Weapons and grenades are distributed randomly but you can manage your ammo as you get better. When youre scooping up a new gun, dropping a remote c4, and dodging a boss while shooting minions, it all comes together. The game is pure arcade fun and working through all the difficulty levels gives a lot of replay value.
Great warm up game, but with hidden depth.

Pac-Man10
Jan 8, 2026
STOP! Whatever I say here will pale in comparison to Action Button's comprehensive review of this game. I used to hate pac man. I did not put any respect on the name. Then Tim Rogers wizened me up. Made me understand why this game is so special.
People think Tetris is the perfect game. Maybe so, but pac man is standing right next to it. Anyone can be sat in front of this game and understand what to do and how to do it. Theres no need to overthink it. The brilliance of this game comes from the ghost behavior. A combination of traits, randomness, and patterns can trick you into thinking the ghost have sophisticated AI, but remember what year this came out. The combination of randomness and programmed patterns creates an unpredictable and cunning AI. At one point the ghosts will all seem to coordinate and block every escape route. But then in the next life a ghost may turn at the last second before killing you. Beating level 22 in this game is harders than any soulslike.

If you ever needed proof Cubed3 is a contrarian rag that shouldn't exist. This game is so effing fun. When you first start you'll be crashing a ton and not making the checkpoints, but once you get used to the tight controls and flow of the game, theres not many other games like it (Super Hang On).
The music combined with the scenery and whipped cream smooth 60fps is a visual audio treat. As you dodge through traffic and discover deeper and deeper courses you begin to understand why this game is so beloved. I did not grow up with this game. I have know nostalgia for it. I just know an excellent game when I see one. The fact this came out in 1986 is nothing short of astonishing.

Everything I said about Like Dreamer applies here. The games are barely different, just more of one of the best shmups on switch.
Game should be a 10 but doesn't have online leaderboards. DO NOT LET THE SCREENSHOTS FOOL YOU! This game takes an ugly picture but is one of the best shmups on switch. Every choice this game makes outside leaderboards is the correct **** have to beat each level individually before unlocking the full length game. I actually like this approach. The base difficulty is a fair challenge and lets you acclimate to the game. Once you're actually playing you'll realize you're in a cute em up. The enemy variety is the best of any shmup. Every level has multiple new enemy types with different attacks and behaviors. The music is so fun and catchy. Like a dreamy chiptune theme with heart pumping boss music.Custom loadouts are great. Choosing between weaker homing shots, mid spread, or powerful focused shots. Your secondary shots and super are customizable too so whichever way you enjoy your shmup, it's here. While it doesn't have the insanely intricate scoring system of a Battle Garegga, theres still tons of room to improve high scores.3 increasing difficulties, extra modes and routes offer a ton of content. And a small but amazing this they do is the game starts beeping when a boss is about to die so you never have to break concentration to look at their health bar. Seriously overlooked shmup. This is the hidden gem you're looking for.

Pocket Bravery10
Jan 8, 2026
This is my new favorite fighting game. While I'm certain there is no online community for it on Switch, that doesn't stop it from being one of the best looking and best feeling fighting games I've ever played.
Pocket Bravery is a straightforward 4 button-fighter on the surface. What makes the game is how good it feels to play. Comparing it to Third Strike may seem blasphemous but the speed and flow of combat and less reliance on massive combos is the closest analogue I'm aware of.
The first thing you'll notice is the distinct artstyle and buttery smooth animation. The amazing animation is what initially drew me to the game. The characters move so fluidly and it's a real pleasure to watch. Each character has a very distinct look and playstyle. I love Hadassa. A command grab and a grapple super is like cat nip to me.
There are the usual modes like story, arcade, and survival. There's tons of stuff to unlock including new characters and the boss character. There's a comprehensive tutorial if you've never touched a fighting game as well as a combo mode to practice combos with. I just really love playing this game. The CPU is brutal even on normal difficulty and it took me a dozen tries to even beat the game on normal. The CPU is well aware of anti-airs and frame advantage so don't assume you can cheese them. Even on normal they are adept at blocking everything and will try to lock you into simple low frame combos that will frustrate people new to fighting games.

Annalynn8
Jan 8, 2026
Annalynn is an inventive yet approachable indie arcade game. The best way to describe it is the perfect hybrid of Pac-Man and Donkey Kong Jr. Instead of a single screen you platform around an enclosed stage collecting gold coins and dodging snakes. The rubies act as power pellets to turn the tables on the snakes. Defeating all the snakes in one go and repeating the feat lets you unlock additional bonus points and content. The only thing this game lacks is online leaderboards which I feel is necessary to for replayability.

Donut Dodo9
Jan 8, 2026
Donut Dodo is an excellent single screen platformer arcade game. Like a good arcade game the concept is instantly understandable: you have to collect every donut on screen while platforming and dodging enemies and hazards. The hook is you get an increasing score multiplier if you collect the donuts in order. With online leaderboards and catchy chiptune music, this game offers a pleasant, highly replayable experience.

Tamiku8
Jan 8, 2026
Tamiku is a single screen platformer where you have to pop every balloon on screen to proceed. The gameplay is simple but hectic as you dodge roving enemies and environmental hazards. If you like Anna Lynn, Donut Dodo, or Halloween 1985 you'll enjoy this game. An online leaderboard would go a long ways towards replayability and touching any button on the gameover screen cuts your score in half and continues the game which means you have to slowly watch the countdown every time you want to log your score. Other than those gripes, if you love aracde games you'll have fun with this one.

Halloween 19858
Jan 8, 2026
I love single screen platformers. I love Tamiku, Donut Dodo, and Anna Lynn. If you love any of those games you'll love Halloween 1985. The gameplay is very, very similar to Donut Dodo with a few twists. You have to collect pumpkin tokens/donuts to complete a level. Collecting them in order grants you a huge score bonus. You'll have to platform, climb ladders, and avoid enemies and environmental hazards as you collect tokens.
Where the game differs is you can choose what order you want to play the levels, and you can activate traps to defeat the "Dodo" enemy of each level for massive bonus points, and each level the "Dodo" has unique characteristics.

This game is fantastic. I love cute em ups and this might be one of the best. If you're a shmupper, its a horizontal shmup that plays like a vertical shmup. Art style is delightful, music is catchy chiptunes, story and characters are adorable, and did I mention it's extremely difficult like all cute em ups? Very well tuned enemy and bullet patterns. Each level throws something unique at you. Just a fantastic first outing from Chunderfins.

This game ****. Before vampire survivors hit switch I was looking for any game to hit that survivors itch. This ain't it. It's lazy, short, and the power ups are boring. There's no reason anyone should play this. Just get void scrappers or brotato, they're infinitely better

This is a great little beat em up. It's a single screen beat em up, and most enemies go flying with one punch. If you punch or kick them out of the air you get big points. Most stages have a mini boss with unique abilities. Combined with the power ups, it's quite a fun little game.

Aug 16, 2025
I adore this game. I saw it in the shop and just knew I was going to like it. Basically youre this little dude running down increasingly challenging obstacle courses under a time limit. It's a simple concept done very well. There are a few secrets like finishing a level with your skateboard or kicking the same can multiple times for massive points (jumping on cans stops the timer). A ton of fun though some levels require absolute precision to beat the timer.

Solitaire Poker9
Aug 16, 2025
If you are one of these people looking for hidden gems in the arcade archives, you found it. This game is absolutely brilliant. You have 5 columns of cards above the board, and you pick one card at a time to fall in place in any column. You try to make as many poker hands as possible vertical, horizontal, and diagonal. The stronger the hand the more points it worth. Each level tasks you with a higher score to clear it. This game is brilliant, so simple but so addictive. This game should be in the conversation with puyopuyo and bejeweled. You can dump 30 hours into this game and still accumulate skill.

Aug 16, 2025
Not the best not the worst. I wouldn't even rank it higher than arcade archives pinball. Impossible to recommend this over demon's tilt.

Aug 16, 2025
Definitely an old and interesting shoot em up. It's one of those very old ones where youre walking across a field and fighting monsters as opposed to being a vehicle shooting other vehicles. The game is quite hard but the treasure, power ups, and enemy variety keep the game interesting, as does the ability to choose your starting class. Worth playing just to see the scope of shmups.

This game is fine. You're objective is to bump everything off the playing field. I'm not keyed into every block dropping game and its origins but basically you have a few types of jewels and when you connect them they disappear. Arcade Archives GUTTANG GOTTONG as its known on the eshop is a very old arcade game. Basically you shuffle pieces of train tracks to make the train hit all its stops without crashing. Pretty mediocre arcade game. You must understand this game came out in 1982. Theres not a ton to it, the only hook is gathering multiples of the same fruit for score bonuses. When you pick up the energy pellet you can knock out foes a la pac man. I guarantee you'll have to play without sound as the music is quite obnoxious. There's fun to be had but its definitely one of the weaker arcade archives titles.

Super Basketball8
Aug 16, 2025
I really enjoy this game. The trick is to set dribble to turbo in the button settings. It's a one sided, offense only basketball game where you have to overcome your point deficit. When you do you move onto a harder time with the chance to earn bigger points based on time remaining on the clock. It's just fun pick up and play gameplay. have pass and shoot buttons, timing your shot and being open is the key to scoring baskets. There's plenty of room to ascend the skill ceiling.

It's okay. Just another arkanoid game that doesn't innovate. The only reason to buy this game is if you love the gameboy aesthetic and yearn for a simpler time. There's not much to say because there's not much to the game. The power ups are nice but it doesn't hold a candle to Strikey Sisters.

Gone Home9
Feb 3, 2024
Can't find a single bad review that isn't in Russian or doesn't have woke or sjw in the text. Strange, huh? Remember when they made a superhero gay, then they told gay people to write their own stories, then gay people did, so these vice signalers review bombed games they never even played? Almost like people have never heard of a point and click adventure game. Gone Home is a bite sized, atmospheric, point and click adventure game about coming home and exploring the house your family moved into while you were in Europe. Much of the story is told brilliantly through the environment as your character has been away for a year so you must piece together what your family has been up to since you left. The story mainly focuses on your younger sister but you also learn what your mom and dad have been going through. Anyone who wants to make immersive 3D games should be forced to play this game and learn how to show, not tell, when it comes to conveying information in a game. We don't need walls of texts inside 3 layers of menus to learn about the lore of menus, seeing three boxes of your dad's unsold novels, or your sister's rough drafts for her fantasy novels tells us so much about the characters and their struggles. I can see if the game is too slow for some or if you don't feel you have enough agency as a player, but it's a point and click walking simulator, what did you expect going in?

Arguably better than blazing star with more power ups and a much more interesting setting. The controls are confusing at first. It helps to assign separate buttons for charged and rapid shot. Massively overrated shmup. When you talk to people in the shmup community, they alweays point to blazing star as the best neogeo shmup.
