Basically this game is what you bought a vita for. A triple 'A' quality shooter, packed with unlockables, anchored to solid gameplay and completely soaked in pristine graphics. And that's all. besides a short campaign (which is redeemed by it's many replay modes, stealth, demolition etc) there is nothing else you need to know besides that it is well polished, content heavy and addictive. If any of the three are something you think you'd like buy it.

I'm not sure what to say about this game. It blends fast action with minimalist RPG elements, all while delivering an absolutely gorgeous art style seasoned with tasteful japanese mythology and lore. One thing I found particularly amazing is the depth. The campaign and mechanics can be skimmed over allowing tourist to pass through quick and yet there is enough depth in this game that anyone willing to put the time in can find ample rewards to be claimed well through and after the first play through. Ultimately if the Vita's current triple A dry spell has you gasping for a well polished and substantial experience, look no further, this game is for you.

Technically this game hasn't added too much to the mechanics table. In some ways it's just a dialogue simulator mashed with a point and click adventure game but it's so so so much more. The detail and life breathed into all the cast is so refined and well done that it has set the bar in electronic story telling. If you are looking for a game that forces you to make tough decisions, completely emerges you in it's world, and introduces you to non existent people who you might actually fall in love with then look no further.

Guacamelee!

Everything you could want from a 2D exploration game Guacamelee delivers and more. Deep satisfying combat and combos, a beautiful art style and colorful characters, and a humorous and engaging story. Just as a concept or level starts to seem familiar they toss in a new power or obstacle to improve the experience ten fold. That coupled with an unbelievably brilliant level design leads to a game that stays fresh for its complete entirety. If you just thought metroid, or castlevania were "OK" games then you'll still have a great time with this and at $15 dollars for two systems you really have no excuse not to give it a try.

All you need to know about this game is the gameplay which you'll love if you're a fighting game fan. It's simple yet deep and playing online against a more experienced foe always makes the game interesting and challenges you. However if you are buying this game to reunite with an old favorite like sir daniel fortesque or the classic parapa the rapper I suggest you pass. This game has a barely passable arcade mode that does nothing for the characters. If you really love the characters then you'll find their move set more fan serving then their paper thin plot and rivalries. However if you are considering passing on this game simply because it has a small roster I'd search for another reason. Each character has 3 attack buttons each with 4 moves that is a dozen attacks that have different uses on ground and air. that coupled with the ability to combo makes each character feel very unique and in some cases like DMC's Dante and Bioshock's Big Daddy make you feel as if the character has stepped straight to this game from their own sacrificing little if any of their controls or classic combos. And with DLC on the way I can promise a good deal of content incoming. Overall if you like fighting games with decent online play and highly nuanced characters this is for you, but if you are looking for a place to pal around with some of your old PS1 and PS2 buddies then I suggest you bust out the AV cord and dust off you old PS2.

Assassin's Creed III: Liberation

If you like smooth games, this isn't for you. If you wan to take my word for it you can stop here but I will elaborate for you skeptics. Yes this is a full assassin's creed game on the Vita and yes the idea alone is amazing but nearly every time you try to sink your teeth in the game shake you loose. The world of Liberation is hard to enter because of the poor graphics (And though I'm not picky about graphics these are not up to par with the vita's potential), the character is hard to relate to because of a jumpy explanation, and the gameplay is hard to be enthralled in due to a random frame rate drops and poor touch controls. I recommend this game only to the die hard fans or desperate vita owners everyone else will have a difficult time joying this.

BlazBlue: Continuum Shift Extend

This is a warning you must heed. If you are playing this is your first blazblue game you won't enjoy it. of course there are exceptions but the sheer number of fancy terms, names, and techniques tossed at the player guarantee that even a rocket scientist couldn't dive into this game without some slight confusion. Every character has at least two nicknames and a confusing weapon name to go along with it. they also have a long back story not summed up in it's entirety by the initial story mode. It will take a lot of dedication for new comers to become intimate with this game. Don't undermine that statement like I did when I read reviews. It will take a lot of dedication. Also the combat is often just as complicated. though you can get through a large number of the story battle by button mashing eventually you will encounter a foe that will require a deep amount of knowledge concerning your characters special moves and blocking. Training mode helps but cannot solve all the problems. All in all this game is enjoyable but not to those who simply want a "simple fighter" like Tekken.

Unit 13

I'd love to say I enjoyed Unit 13. I'd love to say that it's point based gameplay and level up system had me addicted and obsessed. I'd love to praise it for it's originality and bravery in service to the vita and the stealth game genre but I can't. Yes the game is fun. Yes the guns and characters are deep and picking which ones for which missions is often strategic and entertaining but there is one huge problem. The AI is horrendous. Enemies spot you through walls and from impossible distances. They hear silenced weapons and survive multiple gunshots. They ruin the game. sure the game has some forgivable holes otherwise (some characters have much higher level up perks then others.) but the AI makes this game nearly unplayable. many a times have a made a simple mistake just to be instantly barraged as if the enemy knew where I was an was simply waiting for me to mess up. Occasionally they act like morons taking cover towards me so that I can still shoot them while they look away from me scanning the area but these moments don't make up for the sheer genius/ law defying powers they exhibit on other times. This is not a bad game, I still played it for quite some time despite it's bugs, but ultimately the sheer amount of glitches and inconsistencies will pile up and the fun will be drained from this game. I can't recommend this game without warning you to be ready to lose unfairly and win unfairly.

Sound Shapes

How many games can you say took you places? every game you say? well that's true. You've been to the mushroom kingdom, the city of rapture and any other place in any other game. However I can tell you with no doubt that Sound shapes will take you some place you've never been before. This game is a music game like no other, it's not a dance game or instrument game where you interact with the music, or a DJ game where you make the music, but a game that literally puts you in the music. every platform you touch has a rhythmic effect to the song, every coin you collect another note in the loop, and every level from start to finish is a song track that you simply couldn't capture on a iPod or MP3. However do not expect this same experience from death mode which allows you to earn trophies. Death mode is a platforming challenge that shuns music entirely and cuts out exploration. instead you must collect a certain number of coins in a certain amount of time while avoiding death. This is a departure from the sounds shapes you will come to know over the regular tracks but it is still a good option for the trophy hunters and platforming masochist.

This is a game with a defined and pronounced art and story telling style. From the comic book style speech boxes to the heroic heroine this game provides an experience unique to any other game or console. The ending is a bit open-ended but with the makers all but confirming a sequel in the works it's to be expected. However here are some things you should consider as strong reasons not to buy it Dizzyness: The game's controls throw you for a loop and the camera throws a fit after a missed kick or particularly sharp turn maneuver. Combat: not the best combat system I've ever seen but an intriguing one. the reliance on a single attack can make fighting some times monotonous but special moves and upgrades can break the pace. Story: as I mentioned before the ending is open. There are many loose ends by the end of the story most of which I presume will be solved in the sequel but if you come in expecting answers by the end you will be disappointed. If you feel you can work through these then you are ready for a genuinely amazing adventure.

If you like platformers Just buy it. There is enough platforming, community level, and prize collecting fun to be had for months and months on end. If you don't like platformers then you may not be thrilled with it and I'd try it out first but if you enjoy Megaman, mario, donkey kong, or any other classic or current platormer this game is for you.
