Giana Sisters: Twisted Dreams - Director's Cut9
Dec 15, 2014
This is a great break from the games recently released. I love a good platformer, and I love trying to complete levels to 100%. This delivers on all levels. The control schematic takes a bit of getting used to (there's much more to it than just a double jump) but once I figured it outt and got used to it made sense. Good level layout, lots of secrets and total replayabilty makes this game a great value.

Geometry Wars 3: Dimensions9

Fun, frustrating and a perfect geometry wars experience. Very smooth and runs great treating gamers to an experience that is both glitch free and thoughtful. Three stars is not easy but I appreciate the challenge that lies ahead.

Great mechanics in the game, but the game options, menus and gametypes are a bit lack lustre. I enjoyed the first few hours and then got a bit bored.

LEGO Batman 3: Beyond Gotham8

It's lego. It's batman. It's exactly what you would expect. If you loved lego marvel, this almost feels like a bit like a sibling. Fun for everyone in the family.

Assassin's Creed Unity10

Let me be up front...I love the Assassins series, always have. And since I have played EVERY iteration of the series, I was looking at Unity from a different perspective. I wanted to see if it truly plays like a next gen game and it does...very well. The first thing I noticed was that there are a lot of people, everywhere you go. And I mean a lot. I recall in previous versions of the game that the further you progressed, the more people you would have to navigate through. In the first hour of the game, I have bounced off and worked through thousands of citizens, and it doesn't feel too cluttered. I have noticed some minor glitches running through the crowds (sometimes people further away appear from seemingly nowhere) but frankly it seems to serve as a subtle reminder that I am in the animus and there is a bigger game being played around me. When I play AAA games, I love to see if I am going to get bored quickly, and in Unity, there is plenty to do. The control schematic people have complained about is actually very sound. Trust me...there were a lot more control issues in black flag (how many times did you have to restart a mission because you fell to your death trying to descend a large mast?) and unity provides a much smoother experience than previous games. For veteran Creed players, there is a small learning curve because intuitively, you just want to run head on into walls to jump up, but there are now specific controls to do so. It took a few attempts to get used to it, but it is pretty easy once you get there. The landscapes are massive and beautiful. The characters are the best I have seen in the new generation consoles (although it seems that producing realistic hair is going to be a continued challenge). The story has a familiar feel to when we first met Ezio as opposed to Kenway, but it is fun to play through his progression. I am very satisfied with the game. In response to the micro transactions, here's an idea...actually play through the game and earn your gear. This game is one that needs to be experienced and soaked up at an in depth pace. I have taken some time with it, and feel like I have just scratched the surface and can't wait to enjoy this game for hours on end. I am giving this game a perfect score, because I can't think of anything I would add to the experience. Best next gen game to date by far.

Fantasia: Music Evolved9
Oct 21, 2014
I have been a fan of the music game genre for years and have been wondering where it was going to move to after rock band 3. This game has clearly shown where music games should be. The kinect controls are are fantastic, I was able to play while sitting down which made it easier to play for a longer period. The song choices keep it interesting to play the story and I was pleasantly surprised how fun it was to go from the Police to Mozart and then to Lorde and Queen. This was the most fun I've had with Kinect at any time and it is seamless and effortless controls. As was the case with Rock Band and Guitar Hero, calibration is important. I highly recommend this title to any fan of the music game genre.
