It has a seemingly effortless mastery of a large cast of characters, warm intelligence pervading everything, and promotes the gorgeous general sense of being held for the duration in a very safe pair of hands indeed. Like Binchy, it is also entirely addictive.

It wasn’t all bad, and Kirwan simmered impressively. But this never aspired to being anything other than a binge-and-forget potboiler.

What could have been a serviceable thriller series with decent acting and a great scenery turns into slop TV for divorcees crying into their Chardonnay. Wish there was a single likeable character, but it's just empty calories all around.
