SummaryM*A*S*H was a true ensemble series. Whilst characters such as Kellye, Igor, Rizzo, Goldman and Ginger are listed where they appear as specific characters central to the plot, they also appeared regularly as non-speaking cast members. This is also true of many of the nurses, corpsmen, orderlies and drivers listed as guest stars. Based on the 19... Read More

It plays beautifully, the guys are good and believable and, most important, very funny. [18 Sep 1972, p.9]

A rollicking spoof of the medicos, the army, the nurses, the Korean conflict. [17 Sep 1972, p.118]

It definitely is not family entertainment, but the times they are a-changin' and M-A-S-H should do well with folks who aren't watching "The World of Disney." [18 Sep 1972, p.41]

The same absurd attitude that prevailed in the movie is in the series, and it should have a fine run.

If the jokes seem funnier -- which they do -- then it's a good deal because they are slicker. [04 Jun 1973, p.8]

While I am at once outraged at this profiteering by bad taste, I am sympathetic to those who are cast in the roles of the medical staff. [24 Sep 1972, p.90]

Watch for legit medical advice (e.g., slicing cartilage and inserting a pen's tube), a sense of pop culture history (and insight into 'Infinite Jest'), and appreciation for ways of being that seem absent in the society we are pummeled by today (like Winchesters' anonymous giving, even when ridiculed). Would someone in today's united states of amerikkka be so honorably bound to tradition?
Committed to others?
Watch Alone. With Friends. Drunk - i would recommend.
Anecdote: as a child and teen, i hated it. Could not understand it. Too pedestrian. Obvious. But considering it over the age of 30, i have reveled. (The first two seasons are excluded from this review.)
Maybe you'll find the same.

I don't think there's another TV that will ever be better than M*A*S*H. I know a lot of kids hate it because when it came on, it was time for bed. But this show....this show will not, cannot ever be topped. Comedy, drama, from silly to serious in seconds. It's clean. Alan Alda was perfectly cast. I hated every episode focusing on Houlihan, Frank or BJ but that's part of the charm of how the directors writers and cast morphed with the cast lineup changes. Love this show. There can never be a better TV theme song than the one for M*A*S*H.
